Thanks Olive for the video, I don't know if youre still replying but I find I always get stuck when there's three players on the board. I try to hold anything but Australia but I'm never sure how to fight for 1st place. Do I team with the other strongest and wipe out the weakest player? Or should I ally the weaker player and try and damage the other strong player? Thanks 😁

Great video. Ive played this game quite a bit since the early 80s and have never felt i had any sort of winning strategy. It used to be a lot easier to get people to play....i remember playing quite a bit up until around 2000. This video renewed my interest in this awesome game. Thanks

Olive gave the key tips and strategy for the main game mode in risk which is known as classic fixed(It uses the classic map with fixed cards in the world Domination game mode). However in the risk app there are other game modes such as capital conquest(where you keep many troops on your capitals because it has a defensive advantage) there is zombie apocalypse where you often try to have multiple hidden stacks in order to stay alive and stay strong to not be hit by the zombies. There is 70 percent in which people have 2-3 big stacks so at an opportune moment they can take 70 percent of the maps territories in order to win. In fixed cards the troops earned for each trade in gives you 4-12 troops however there is also progressive cards which go up each time someone trades in eg. 4,6,8,10,12,15,20,25,30 etc. There are also other maps than just the normal risk map such some of my favourites like Earth 2209(a bigger version of the normal risk map with around 80 territories instead of 42) or Brazil
My son has just started to get into playing RISK, and he will be fascinated to watch this video and receive advice/strategy from a grand master. Thank you!
I play risk online a lot, and a strategy can be to just play passively and wait. Especially when you’re not in a hurry. Take your time. Let other people lose their patience and let them attack each other. Key in this strategy is to be very helpful and friendly to other players, and don’t become too big. A small continent like africa, South-America or Australia is fine for this strategy.
I take a different approach. I like to use aggression and try to control the game. If you are always passive the game can stalemate. I don’t attack with impunity. I make controlled attacks especially when others can’t retaliate. Glad you liked the video!
@@OliveXC thanks for your response. One month later I understand what you mean. It makes the games much more boring if you play for like 1,5-2 hours! I have better things to do. 😉 sometimes it can be a strategy just to let other people fight eachother and reap the benefits of this by crushing weak players totally in one turn. Sometimes it is important to show muscle if you’re challenged while being strong. Important to conceal your intentions however being able to kill one in one turn. Important to differentiate your strategy based of the players you play to. Sometimes aggressive, sometimes passive.

Funny thing, I recently played a game where every player secured their continent early on, except for me. Somehow I ended up with aisa, and convinced my friends that they should invade each other. They fell for it and I actually won!
Also known as the Mongolian horde strategy. You hold nothing but a useless piece of land in Asia, try not to die, wait for your opponents to weaken one another, then you swoop in and conquer half the world at once.

If you're in a public game, try to not break other people. A huge percentage of the time, public games are decided by people suiciding into others rather then a strategic play. You want to be buddy buddy with the whole server to try and avoid being the suicider's target.
I sometimes have to do this, but it creates stalemates. When I am the strongest player, sometimes I just try to eliminate players immediately so they cannot attack me back.
I’ve always considered the “mutually assured destruction” tactic to be illegal. In Risk you have to always take whatever action is in your best interest. If you intentionally destroy yourself then you’re cheating. Revenge is against the rules.
Yeah my odds are not accurate to real dice it's impossible to lose that much and that often I think the game picks a player to win and they get great or perfect dice

I'm top 10 for 1v1s in the world. But also am doing well in the ffa tourney. Olive is such a great inspiration.

I assume you’re talking about playing at home with family/friends? As online this kind of gameplay happens in almost every game

If there's six players, someone has to. Playing Asia is just like playing Australia except you get no continent bonus.
I think the defender has the advantage because they can only loose 2 troops every roll and ties go to them.
Attacker gets a third die though. So it is attacker favor. It’s not extremely skewed but it is definitely attacker favor.
