So glad you liked it. We haven't done a lot on Catan yet, but it's been a fun game to explore. We really try to deliver top notch audio quality on all our videos. Thanks for noticing!
What you call the resources really doesn't matter much if everyone understands what you meant. If you're playing with anyone who cares, you're playing with the wrong people.
In my first game, I had a monopoly on sheep. Had almost 8 sheep in my hand. I traded all of them for other resources. When I ran out of sheep, I pulled out the monopoly card. Lost the game, but it was a really great one.

So true about the Mayor archetype. I just played a game earlier with that strategy and was handcuffed by the robber constantly blocking my 6 ore, my only ore. Would've been a different game if it wasn't blocked for half of it!
Wouldn’t a winning strategy be one that requires you to adapt to the board and position? I can’t say I’ve seen many of these play styles... the video is well produced and fun, just not what I expected when reading the title.
@@LegendaryTactics thanks for the reply and taking time to engage with me as a viewer. Wouldn’t say I’m entitled the right to be let down lol. Only recently discovered the channel (mostly diplomacy related) and have enjoyed / appreciated the content. Thanks for the time and effort!

It depends on the resource and number placement at the end of the day. If there is just 1 good ore tile, dont be shy to take it and go all out on cities and development cards.
In this video there is a settlement one road away from a city for red, there has to be two roads between settlements, is this rule then negated when you build a city???
Me and My friends we have many classic expansions and Catan Game of Thrones. Our favorites are Catan GOT and Catan Cities and Knights. I don't think Catan is as popular here in South America as it is in Europe :/
Video and sound quality is really good! The type of players are funny but don't really make sense. I feel that the differences between 'The Shepperd' and 'Naval Officer' and between 'The Developer' and 'The Mayor' are not significant. Those are Harbormaster players and Tall or O/W/S players. 'The Saboteur' definitely is a thing but don't deserve the label 'veteran' haha, if you are still holding grudges and are basically just trolling you don't belong with the veterans. Sure you block the strongest player sometimes, or you do a bad trade to help another player so the leader doesn't win the game. But all those thing you do because you still want to win yourself. Just playing to make other players life misserable isn't really a thing among the veterans. Sabotage isn't the goal, winning is. Overall a cool video though and hope you will do some more on Catan! Sorry for my comments but that were just some things I had to vent after seeing the video haha
Your thoughts are absolutely on point. No need to apologize. There's a huge difference between experienced and casual/social catan players. As you rightly point out, many of these roles just don't happen at the more experienced tables. It's comments like these that really help us reconsider how we script and present our videos, so we're very appreciative for the suggestions. Thanks for taking the time to offer a measured response.
Played for the first time ever last night Nearly won! Is there a strategy that is usually considered the “best”. Obviously this will change with the board but, im just trying to learn as much as possible
Is it a Canadian thing to pronounce the word resource... Rezourse or even worse rizzorse? Then I would imagine if you said "the source of the problem" it would also be "the zorse of the problem?".
I know it's wheat, but imma call it hay til the day I die. Yall know what I mean. And idk. I'm the see how things roll and build what feels right type of dude. I'll pick what I think is the best starting spots I can get and roll with it from there.
Great video! I just learned this game about two months ago for the first time and I'm completely hooked now. I did have the misfortune of playing once against "the analyst" who also revealed himself to be a communist during the course of gameplay.. He didn't have any resources any one wanted, so instead of moving on to the next person's turn, he kept begging for wheat "because you guys have so many," and was wanting to trade one of his unneeded resources for two wheat cards. If no one accepted his lopsided trade offers he would stare at the board like he was trying to figure out some kind of complicated math equation. 🥴
very informative video. I'm noticing that most of your advanced players are white and beginners black.. something to think of for future video, to take out racial bias :)
It's important to us to represent a diverse range of players so it's not simply a homogenous group. It's certainly problematic if people are always characterized the same way or if some groups are excluded or systematically selected against. However, we believe it's fair to show that players can occupy both advanced and beginner roles regardless of their skin colour. In this video for instance, we actually have more white players representing new players than we do players of colour. I'm glad you mention it though, because it's something important to think about. The final shot of the Imperialist for instance, wasn't chosen based on skin colour, but rather, it was the shot in the stock footage that had a person spreading their arms to a valley, which was the look we wanted for that last role.
@@LegendaryTactics on this topic, featuring a Black man as "the Rookie," then ending that segment with "use them like chattel"..... is..... an (egregious) oversight? hopefully. I did notice a Black man as diplomat, too.

I see some back settle placement at 5:45 around the 5 tile there are 2 red settlements one road apart

The Roadblocker. They get enough brick and wood to cut you off from the best spots.
You got that right!
Rookies call wheat "hay" and ore "stone"? I call brick "chocolate".
All Catan advice sounds good, until you have great initial placements, then your numbers never get rolled.
The sabatour also likes to take down the diplomat that got everyone against them.
