I was a fan of Apocalyptica but I never thought I will ever like Till's voice... I was even afraid to listen but I love this Till's tribute to Bowie . Never heared him singing that passionatly...
"Heroes" was one of the David Bowie songs used in the 1981 German film "Christiane F. - Wir Kinder von Bahnhoff Zoo" (We children from train station "Zoo") in which David Bowie also played a role as himself. It's the real -time story about a fourteen year old, heroine-addicted girl who first shot-up after a David Bowie concert. It's an excellent, but very dark movie and for me for always connected to the song "Heroes". It's been over three decades since I saw that movie, but I seem to remember someone translating "heroes" in German to Christiane while listening to the song. This version by Till does more-or-less the same with the lyrics; a straight translation of the song (it helps that I also speak German). It's a great cover and the score is well-deserved.
Apocalyptica often plays on stage and in studio with Rammstein, Epica and other symphonic metal bands....they are extremely talented, playing heavily amplified and distorted cellos........unique and good........
Heroes has always been my favourite Bowie song and normally, I'd see a cover of it as sacrilege. Normally. Till brings even more emotion to the song as a man from the former East and Apocalyptica bring their own special signature to the score. Loved it from the first time I heard it which, believe me, is a huge compliment to both Till and Apocalyptica.

There are some artists I'm very strict on, when it comes to covers, especially when the original is so good. David Bowie is one of them. And have to say I love this cover. It's done so well. And of course being german, the translated lyrics into my mother tongue put a special spin on it. Including the meaning of them. To be clear it's a cover of Bowie's "Helden", Bowie had released Heroes in French and German as well as the original English

It's not a recent translation btw, there's a 1970s version by Bowie himself singing "Helden" in German.
