What year did you get those tundra struts from?
Good stuff bro. Can’t wait to see this 4Runner done. 🤙🏽
Glad to have found your channel! 👍 keep it up…
I have two 4Runners one I kept almost stock the 99 I modded out a lot for off-road steel off-road front rear bumpers with winch 33in tires light kits and lots of other stuff I love the 3rd gen 4Runners they're a good platform for off-roading
love the actual grass roots building! keep it up. Cheers!
Thank you!
This might be a dumb question but what year/gen Tundra did you take the struts From? looking into lifting my 3rd gen 4runner!
I was out at your airport last week (service call), and weather was nice.
This week here, (other side of the mountains) it's 30+ degrees
Hope you are gettin' your H2O for the heat. Helps you keep from thinking your hand is a hammer 😆
Bro I wanna do this for mine and I’ve been researching it so I can do the cheapest best lift and apparently people also do land cruiser shocks and springs in the rear and it rides amazing
Watch out for slightly misaligned lower Tundra shock bolt in relation to the upper hat orientation. Mine was slightly off and, although I could twist the shock to get the bolt in, the bushing deteriorated rapidly. Also try Energy Suspension 9.9484G universal bushings for the lower shock mount. I cut mine down on a bench grinder to make the outside diameter fit in the shock eyehole. Urethane can be cut down easily.
Love watching your show every week.
Wow, thank you!
Never says a year of tundra and never replys to question,
Where is Chris fix it?
I have a 99 Toyota 4Runner and I put a new rear differential in last year cuz had holes in the housing I had to change the front differential too because it didn't match the Greer gear ratio just make sure the front and rear gear ratio are the same
Hey man, lmk if you need a place to wrench when you get to Windrock.
I'm new to Dirt garage just wanted to ask if tacoma suspension would fit on an fj if so what would I have to change around to make it work for trying to DYI thank you for sharing your knowledge.
I love how people criticize us and the time we spend turning wrenches instead of just buying newer vehicles.
Then 2022 hyper inflation, ridiculous prices in the vehicle marketplace, thirsty dealerships and unethical repair shops enter the chat
I like old cars more. And I'm waaaay to cheap to buy new! I can't believe the prices I'm seeing on old junk these days now though.
So, how would this mod match up with chevy 63's in the back?!
Bravo l'artiste 🤗
Out of curiosity, why not go to a tubular upper with a better style ball joint and get rid of those old press in style. Freedom offroad has upper control arms for around 450 usd and also has adjustable coil overs for about 600 usd. I installed them on my 96 tacoma and have put them to the test and they are doing great.
Where did u get the head lights?
If your using the tundra springs make sure the color code is yellow/ blue and yellow/yellow.
Hi...can you tellme wich tundra gen did you took the struts and wich springs you used
This should work for the Tacoma's as well then??
4:20 your Cat left your truck so quietly 🤣🤣 .... mine was stolen in Calgary needed a new exhaust after :/
Have a great weeeeeeekeeeend :D
I've found that the easiest way to compress the spring is to actually mount it in the truck and then use a jack on the lower control arm to compress it/de-compress it. Not possible in your situation since there's not enough weight with no motor, but figured I'd share!
That’s how I do it too
Hope you had the rear matching diff to that 4.33
Of course 🤣
The tundra mod is cool, wonder if it would work for a taco? As well I know you just polished up your calipers, but considering an entire tundra front end swap with the brake calipers and rotors would be sweet! Extra stopping power and such!
Glad to see the runner getting polished up it's gonna ride nice, I have to swap 5100s for ome shocks in my taco soon. That diff actuator looked similar to 2nd gen runner as well. Vacuum operated? Did you go with moog bj?
Glad your still making good yota videos!
It works for my first gen Taco. All you have to do is use your Tacoma top hats on the Tundra coilover shock.
Yes 3rd gen runners are identical to first gen tacomas same body style
You can run the bigger Tundra brake calipers on the 4runner to -bolt on
Yup. On the eventually list. But as I mentioned the brakes are like new on this, new same year I pulled it off the road.
You should have add tacoma rotors unless your doing the pickup disc's in the back
Why? Tacoma rotors are the same as 4Runner.
@@DirtGarage oops I meant tundra
hey man since i put a bumber and winch on my 1st gen tacoma the oem strut feel's weak .. wondering if i put tundra strut would help getting a more solid ride ?.. so since its the same strut 4runner and tacoma of those years what years tundra shock did you take ?
My specific strut is from a 02 Tundra. The ones with factory bilsteins are the ones to look out for I'm told.
@@DirtGarage thanks bud !!
why not us the tundra springs on the ol man emu strut
Because the Bilstein 5100s are shot. Otherwise i would have ran the setup it had.
If I used the Trundra springs, gain 3' ????
I'm not 100% sure yet! I'll update in future video.
The diff drop doesn't drop your whole diff by an inch. It lowers one side and effectively lowers your CVs by maybe 1/4". They do hardly jack squat and actually it takes a pretty big lift to actually put enough of a CV angle to matter. Tinkerer's Adventure just did an excellent video showing how the only thing they do is take away a tiny bit of clearance in the front.
Oh I'm well aware of all this. I had it so I used it. No other reason other than it won't hurt.
Man back in the forum days it was established that diff drops didn't really help anything
It came with the parts 4Runner. Otherwise I wouldn't bother.
What year Tundra?
I used 2002
I upgraded my front brake calipers to the tundra brake calipers this stock ones work like poo
What y'all think of a turbo k24 swapped into a 3rd gen surf
Hey man not to criticize but WD-40 is not meant for lubrication or rust it's just for water displacement so once I learned that I switch to PB Blaster or something similar and got far better results
Oh I know! That's why I use Honeygoo for lubrication
At 2:56, it looks like he's holding that diff up with his head.
I most likely am
I use my hand as a hammer too
Closest tool is the best tool
Is your 4runner 2wd?
Nope 4x4
@@DirtGarage Yeah I want to build my 4runner but it’s a 2wd feel like I’ll look like a poser haha
Here from Donut.
Welcome!
They’re not STRUTS, they’re coilovers!!!!!!!!!!
Same same, coilover is a type of strut.
Toyotas are like legos
