That is so true, these 4Runners are so dependable. It was created in the age before planned obsolescence and creating very scummy designs to work on. Along of course, with less strict EPA standards, there are less anti-pollution equipment to fail on them as well. Thanks for leaving a comment and tuning in to the video!
@ryancollins3227 Any 90s dodge still on the road is on at least its 3rd transmission. I have a 98 4runner with 350,000 miles, and I'd drive it across the country tomorrow.
Just got a 2000 4Runner limited, 2wd, 206k miles, 1 family owned, literally all dark gray underneath (0 rust) all original parts, even the limited seat covers and owners manual! No leaks in sunroof, interior just needs a deep clean and an axle. Spent $2,000.00.
I bought a 1998 4Runner sr5 in white from an old veteran guy in a rich neighborhood. He bought it from dealer new and only drove when he was at his vacation house. It has 145,000 miles. It looks absolutely new since it was garage kept. I’ve have already changed all the fluids, upgraded the suspension, and I’m about to change the lower and upper ball joints. I bought it for $5,000. I got very lucky.
Love my 98 Limited. New timing belt, water pump, rotors, brakes, tires, 2 ujoints replaced on drive shaft. Interior is super clean, leather seats are not torn/worn. I’m the 2nd owner. Zero rust. Love it
It’s an amazing vehicle👍 you’ll enjoy it. Just make sure you have it checked out by your local trusted mechanic and check for all the common issues I listed in this video!
Where I live. A 25 year old vehicle is worth more than a 20 year old vehicle. A 25 year old vehicle is exempt from emissions. I own 2 98 4runners. A minty 5 speed 4x4, and a winter beater with 350,000 miles.
Damn I paid 4,000 for an 02 sport edition. Sunroof not working. Every thing else is great. I see these for sale for 7,000 to 14,000. Has 186,000 on it. I knew the guy who's owned it since new. He takes care of his stuff
That’s prob why you got it cheaper…you bought it from a private owner. Most people have to get them from used car lot or dealer. And well they want to make money. We got one $5,500 OTD with a 167,000 miles from a car lot in Houston.
Just bought a 99 limited with 190k for $2500. Needed a Cat cause it was stolen, no rust, leaking valve covers and it’s the only thing leaking oil. Paint not the best and both front seats have tears. I used to be a Toyota tech so I can do all repairs myself so it was a no brainer
Yes thank you for pointing that out! Most people would’ve changed the radiator by now, otherwise they probably would’ve had a strawberry milkshake already. I’m about to replace it soon don’t worry! Thanks for stopping by!
Steal. I paid over 12k for mine with 170k granted its a 4wd with a diff locker and I bought it during COVID (should have waited). Im almost at 200k and it def needed some work. Wish I negotiated the price more oh well!
It was a decent price for mine not the best. But if yours body wise and mechanically wise checked out and didn’t have rust… than you passed the quality qualification standard. Also 4WD and a Differential locker does help the vehicle hold its value longer! So try to look at the positive side of things. You could still sell that thing for probably 10K if it’s in “great” condition. One of my mechanic buddies bought his 99’ 4Runner w/ 260K miles on it with 4WD for 6K but again it was back in Covid too. So hard to say now, with the values finally settling down on used cars what that would go for now but still these vehicles are generally bulletproof, as long as you take care of them. They’ll take care of you. So no worries! Keep your head up. Thanks for watching and stopping by!
That’s what ruined my transmission in my Mercedes ML320 1998. I didn’t know radiator was going back until it leaked water in transmission oil and cost me $500 for a different gearbox
i never buy a car with sunroof - because i had a bad experience with a BMW 3 series and since then i couldnt find a good reason why i needed a sunroof in the 1st place
About the only 90s vehicles you see today rolling around along with some hondas ive seen

Idk man those obs fords and dodge trucks are still out there puttin in the hard work still

Heck of a deal right here🙏 that’s awesome man! Thanks for tuning in!

Currently at 282k miles in my 2000 4Runner lifted 5 inches on 33s no lights on the dash !
Yeah these 4Runners can run a long while 💪
My 99 SR5 has 238K, and the engine and transmission are still buttery smooth
Great Video. Thinking about buying a 96 SR5. This vid has me lesning even more to jump on it soon

That brown radiator is a big sign of don't buy it or negotiating the price
Yes, but the original factory radiator is green. If your radiator is green. Please replace it as soon as possible…
Just got an 02 with 200k for 2500
Good review. I have a 99 limited, 370k ! But damn you need a new radiator lol
Yeah it’s the original radiator with the trans cooler issue. I’m replacing it soon. But fortunately I haven’t got the strawberry milkshake!
Really enjoyed the video!
The thing about Penetrating rust on a 3rd gen is that it doesn’t matter it’s so well built

Where u got that banger for that place? Def not california lol
Why did it go from a right hand drive to a left hand in the video
I’m in America. My Video Recorder, has a weird glitch where it flips the video. Don’t worry it’s an American 4Runner!
You missed a crucial point. The radiator is old in that rig, be careful not to make a strawberry milkshake.
Yes thank you for pointing that out! Most people would’ve changed the radiator by now, otherwise they probably would’ve had a strawberry milkshake already. I’m about to replace it soon don’t worry! Thanks for stopping by!
Paid 2500 for mine stock 2 and a half years ago

Please don't wait to change the radiator. It'll ruin the transmission
That’s what ruined my transmission in my Mercedes ML320 1998. I didn’t know radiator was going back until it leaked water in transmission oil and cost me $500 for a different gearbox
Ummm....That radiator needs changing ASAP. It is discolored and likely very brittle. Looking at the dreaded pink milkshake if not caught in time.
Yes sir, it’s the original radiator. It’s lasted 160K miles and 24 years😂👍
@@carznvp The good news is a Denzo OEM replacement isn't terribly expensive, easy to replace, and should be good for another 100k.
An auxiliary trans cooler is less than $100 and completely eliminates the chance of a dreaded pink milkshake.
As does a 5 speed manual...
I doubt you got an entire new sunroof assembly for just $200. They probably replaced the plastic toothed runners that push-pull the glass open.
I bought a used sunroof assembly with glass and motor for $150. I installed it myself
Someone put your steering wheel on the wrong side
It is on the right side
And if your paying $1k a axle repair that’s crazy I paid 200 for both mine replaced
For a professional shop to do the job, that’s the quote! Thanks for tuning in!
Got my 01 4Runner for $2,300
That’s an amazing deal, what’s the mileage, trim, transmission, and features incl.???
what happen tothe plan
i never buy a car with sunroof - because i had a bad experience with a BMW 3 series and since then i couldnt find a good reason why i needed a sunroof in the 1st place
What was it?
I got one for 3k a 97 white one
