I’m guessing that when you came home to find it a bit smokey, it could’ve been the paint curing on the stove which is perfectly normal and usually goes away after a couple of full burns. Great video! With a straight vertical flue of such a short length I’m sure you’ll be just fine.
In 1972 I had a custom wood stove made the size of a large shoe box with a chjminy made from a custom bent car exhaust pipe. I mounted it low down on the back door with the chimny going out thru the back door window. The only heat protection needed was on the side cabinets -- plenty of setback space so not much heat shielding needed. I used this stove in my 16 foot camp trailer and later in my 11.5 foot camper. I could burn small pieces of wood but I usually burned prestologs as they would burn all night and still have coals in the morning. Note that for safety I had an emergency exit out thru the truck cab or window. -- but never had a problem. Maintenance was removing the ash and creosote from the chimny. Nice dry heat. In 1992 I switched to an Olympus catalytic heater. It caused condensation on the wood panaling and inside of the walls. In 1996 I went to a fiberglass camper shell that I built out and lined with 2" of styrofoam. No more condensation except on the windows. I still use this camper and heater which I love for my winter camping.

I have a small popup trailer that i used for the first time in cold snowy weather. All i had for heat was a coleman propane stove with a cast iron fry pan over the burner and it put out a lot of great heat but i am tempted to install a woodstove. As far as all the heat sizing to above there is a easy solution that takes all that heat and puts down low where you are sitting. I have a 6 inch 12v fan that snaps onto the top hoop on trailer frame that faces straight down and even has a light with it. If i did not have a battery on my trailer i have a simple battery box made by ICE HOLE POWERBOX with a 30 amp lithium battery box which also has a USB port for charging things like a cell phone etc. and also has a 12v port that is like cigarette lighter. and if you want to make power it has a port to hook up soar cells to charge your battery.
Sounds like a sweet set up. I feel like it would be challenging to install a wood burner in a pop up. Maybe a side jack? Or removing the pipe when putting down or popping up? Something to dig deeper into for sure.
I have a mini grizzly in a bunkie I built, it's an awesome efficient little wood burner. Even with my 9 ft chimney it's an amazing stove. It's the best practical investment for a small space. ❤👍
TINY WOODSTOVE You should be able to take coals out and use them in your small Hibachi for fish& shrimp and thin strip of beef depending on how green the wood is your using.

I would say that it depends on the size of the space and how well it’s insulated. In my camper I slept 2 months in it and a lot of the nights were in the mountains at -20 Celsius. I was toasty warm throughout the night.
I'm looking into doing this for my pop up camper. My only concern is how to cap it off on the top for when your driving, so it doesn't rip off the top shield?
My flue pipe is very short, shorter than spec due to the build in my camper. I recommend going to the lowest point possible for mounting the stove. Eliminates possible problems with draw/airflow. You can always have an added removable extension to extend the pipe to desired length.

That’s awesome, I almost went with the grizzly. But the Cub is more of a proper fit for my unit.

Probably already mentioned but the length of your flu is what’s causing a lot of problems, the longer it is these easier the smoke goes up.

I just cap off the top with a galvanized pipe cap that screws into the pipe. (Specifically to the outer insulated pipe)
