These backpacks seem over-engineered but under-designed. A good designer would have asked questions like "Who would want to faff about with this as much as it needs to be useful?"
Replace that g-hook with their fidlock magnetic clip -- it's like magic in how it snaps close without me even touching it. I've purchased countless camera bags over the years -- Peak Design, Wandrd, Lowepro, ThinkTank, Domke, ONA and others -- and the Wotancraft Pilot 7L is by far the best, most thought-out camera messenger for my use. Love the various straps and despite it's small size it carries so much. (Also, I think you may have overlooked the hidden pocket beneath the front pouch-pocket!)
I have the little Peak everyday bag and I cant carry jack with that thing despite being an M shooter with tiny lenses (2 or 3 Skopar lenses). Forget mirrorless lenses. It's like a camera case, not a bag. So I've been thinking of getting the Pilot 7L or 10L just so I can carry like, a sandwich and a water bottle lol.
I replaced the buckle on my messenger with fidloc’s magnetic “V Buckle”, which is what mission workshop is using in some of their new packs. I think it’s an improvement on both the G hook and the fidloc upgrade that Wotancraft sells.
Appreciate the overview, but for the $250+ pricepoint these things look like a constant pain in the ass. I would never get this over some of the other nice camera bags in the market like wandrd, PD, Boundary supply, etc.
Coming from someone who has WAY too many camera bags I’ve had the 25L backpack in green for over a year and a half now and for a photographer its the absolute best personal item bag for travel…I can fit two camera bodies GFX & Xt4 a bunch of lenses a mic, laptop, iPad AND bunch of clothes rolled up in the front…if I’m just using it around town ill put my 17in laptop in a padded sleeve that ill keep in the front sliding through the roll top and iPad in the back sleeve. It’s amazing how much this thing can hold I think i am gonna order the waist strap to help when i really pack it out and go on a hike. Great review, You’re the man Chase
Wotancraft really advertises these as camera bags, not messenger bags so the side pockets are more for gear than water bottles hence to not so great ability to hold them. The Scout and Rider series are better suited to EDC / messenger use.
Oh boy, those backpacks are by far the worst, most impractical design I've ever seen. Talk about awkwardness, these top the scale. Yet Wotancraft messenger bags look fantastic, seem well thought out, and really practical. Can these really be from the same company?
CHASE, I am addicted to your videos. Help a brutha out. I need a discount code for Greenroom136. I only know of the brand because I have not slept for 3-days watching your videos. Cat needs to be fed, clothes washed, and bills paid -- but there's another video.
Do you think the 25L backpack will fit one of the new 16” macbook pros? They are a little chunkier than the one you have… and urs already look like a tight fit!
Hmm. This bag seems rather awkward and complicated…
Something about these videos are so satisfying to watch. Keep up the great work, man!

I've had the Wotancraft Pilot 10L khaki for daily/photo bag for 6 months and it's simply my favorite bag. So in love with it, in one word, perfect !
The backpacks' structure is unique, but I'm not convinced

Likewise. The fidlock is where it's at. Makes it super easy to get into the bag while feeling secure.
Did you do that yourself or get someone to do it?

Can we get a "best diaper bag" review? :D

Came here after your 40 mins long Backpacks review. Man so intresting to watch. you almost got a hour long watch time from me with a sub.

Hi Chase. What is the black box sort of thing with the two press fasteners behind the camera at 0:35 please?
Don't like these bags. It's like carrying a burlap sack.
Wotancraft commander is where it’s at
what macbook size is that?
Great video. Love the color of that 15L.
Where do you get those hats? Cool
I've missed the magnets
Love the vids
I love everything you do bro, but glasses with a strap...nope, no, never. Don't sell you soul for goofy modernism at the expense of classic styling.
