I love Isonzo. I come back to it every once in a while. In general, at least on the moments that I play, there are about two decently filled servers, which is more than enough to have a good time. Sometimes about five players on each side, with the rest bots, can give good matches as well.

My son and I used to have SO MUCH FUN playing Urban Terror together and I totally forgot it existed and those memories until watching this. Thank you and great series
I've been on and off of "Isonzo" since day one. I find that most new players leave because it's not fast-paced, run and gun action. It's true to WWI in that you have to rush the enemy, take massive losses, and somehow wrestle away a capture or bomb by pure grit and dedication. The officers also make a world of difference, bad officers lead to losing more often than not. And if the scouts and officers aren't working in conjunction with one another, it severely hampers the team's ability to advance, or hold a position. If people communicate like they do in "Hell Let Loose" they often find themselves absolutely overwhelming the enemy. But even if nobody is talking, it's still fun to get crazy and ruin somebody's day with a bayonet to the chest, or a climbing pick to the head. I'm about to hop back into Isonzo again for the first time in two months, I don't think I'll ever actually put the game down. I hope you and your Discord community can put together some servers and just have an absolute time of it like us veterans do.
@@BidyBiddle I thought I remembered seeing it in magazines back in the day. I never knew it was still around in any form. It was to Q3 what Counter-Strike was to Half-Life and Tactical Ops was to Unreal Tournament, when the multiplayer counter-terrorist craze started.
tis is why it is so hard and frustrating joining a multiplayer game late. You're up against tons of people who just know all the tricks and places and stuff. It needs a lot of patience to do that. Especially as someone who does not do that all the time.
Grew up on Tribes 2 and MOHAA in middle school where we had a class where it was always packed playing LAN games. Picked up on Urban Terror in high school but had honestly forgot about it. Cool to see them come up here.
Urban Terror has been one of my favorite games for years, my older brother got me into it back when we played quake 3 heavy. Also Tribes is so sick aerial assault on ps2 was another we played heavy, there's still a community that runs ps2 servers I play on every now and then. Having 2 of my favorites that no one ever really talk about definitely got a sub :)
kinda crazy that i'm all the way from brasil and youtube recomended your video from nowhere, and i got shocked when the first game was urban terror, my eyes literally watered from nostalgia it was the first game that i made friends back when i was like 11 years old, and the logo of the game its my steam profile picture for a long time. amazing video man
I can't believe you put Darkest Hour here... played this many years ago and was like a constant player back then. I didn't like the direction it went with the base building and whatnot but it was a ton of fun especially when that game was like a light in the darkness for me.
one of my favorite games of all time is prolly nationstates. it has a pretty large community that have stuck with it since the very beginning in 2002. it has grown in popularity ever since and has one of the friendliest communities i have ever been apart of. i started playing in 2015 and i don't think i'll ever stop.
I actually remember playing Isonzo for a fair bit of time. I also played Verdun aswell. Both great games but the biggest issue is that it just get's repetitive. When isonzo first came out with in 20-30 hours of the game I was racking up 80-100+ kills each game with the Officer or Marksman class. While being at the top of the leaderboard was fun after some time it just felt like the more experienced you got at the game the less interesting it got. But when you start fresh something about being cannon fodder and fearing for your character's life is what made the game fun from the start. but again my biggest issue is that once you learned the mechanics, artillery calling spots and how to overpower the entire team you become an overpowered killing machine which defeats the whole purpose of re-creating the horrors of WW1. Although this is technically not the developers fault I can't help but point out this is one of the reasons why I stopped playing the game.
Oh yes urban terror. I played this so much as a kid. There was a train station map and would snipe there all day long. There was some kind of castle map too .
i remember playing pirates, vikings and knight back in the day. when it was just a mod you needed to install manually. had a pretty big playerbase. just a fun silly game to sink some time in to. good to some people are still playing it, even if it is not a lot.
I played A LOT of DH for a few years after it released, a lot of fun memories. Used to be really good at beaning dudes with the Kar 98 from long distance.

Man, UT was my childhood fps, mainly because I didn't own any CS and UT was free... I have so many vivid memories of that game, of jumping around on the Swimming Pool map (game had some swimming and underwater shooting IIRC), as well as fighting for the ski-resort gondolas and falling into the icy waters below, where people were camping to shoot you down while trying to get out of the water. I had a lot of fun, and I'm grateful to my father for introducing me to it and playing with me from time to time.
Was going to say UT wasn't free but realized you were talking about Urban Terror and not Unreal Tournament. I am surprised I never heard about it, free games back then were my jam and I was constantly checking out mods and free games. How it flew under my radar I have no clue...
Man, I used to quite literally inhale Tribes when it released. That game gave me something that not even CS gave me. Every single kill felt satisfying and like an achievement and playing with friends made it even better. Good times. Wish a good publisher would pick up the game and do something with it. I sincerely hope that Tribe 3 can live up to my ideas of what I wish for it to be.
Yo, big ups for covering urban terror. Most servers are empty, but there are at least 2 ctf servers that are constantly full, and many other servers which fill and empty throughout the day either by chance or by pre-scheduled play times. The recent tourney you mentioned had over 4k games played in it. 5.0 Is coming. The devs are an all volunteer staff with all the usual other commitments, so it's slow going, but the game is currently in closed alpha testing. Also the jumping you mentioned is just the tip of the iceberg for UrT movement. It's the movement that has kept me playing all these years, the more you progress at learning the deeper the gameplay goes.
In PVK2 you get the treasure chests and take them to your base, then the number on top goes up slowly until you get a certain point and it will determine the win. The more chests you have the faster the number goes up.
I am so glad you covered urban terror :) one of my teenagehood game! Which also taught me mapmaking. You actually jumped on a remake I made of a famous map (3:40) we had back then, before they switched engine.
Dude. Revenant in Darkest Hour is literally famous in that tiny community. He's a bipolar lawyer who has extensive lore in the community. I've bitched him out so many times for being a miserable twat, it's really bewildering seeing him in a youtube video. His famous line is "HOW MANY HOURS DO YOU HAVE??? I'M FRIENDS WITH THE DEVELOPER AND I'M GONNA HAVE YOU BANNED."
Its great to see you covered Tribes: Ascend, i used to love playing it back in the day and kept up with it for a while. But once the servers were shut down i was out of the loop on the community servers and stopped playing. But its good to see that its still around
I love how you give these games justice. You give them a genuine try and try to see why they were popular, and even try to find extra info about them. There are real people who spent hundreds or thousands of hours of their life on those games, and it's definitely worth it to try and see why. I would suggest you try Tribes 1 and 2, Enemy Territory Legacy, Quake Wars, and Renegade X, as well, for the next games.
i genuinely love these videos i just turned 16 and whenever i was 11-14 me and my friends would play tf2 old csgo because its all our computers could handle and thats all i really did through ym young teen years and recentley ive been feeling like ive wasted them these videos are nostalgic and sad to me at the same time and it really reminds me that even though all i did was play hose old dead games i was still with the people i cared about and thats never a wast thank you rye
Except for Easy Red 2, I've put so many hours into every game in this video. Urban Terror, Tribes and PVK II are so much fun and so well made, it's such a shame they are all slowly but surely dying. I know you can find players in all of these games still (mostly) but it's getting harder and harder. I'm so glad Rye and a few other UA-camr's are now doing videos like this, exploring amazing games/mods that either used to be big populated games or just chug along and deserve more attention.
Easy Red 2 has just a small audience, it's game made by a single dev that constantly updates the game since 2020 and considering the state from 2020 the game has improved a lot - it's has less junk and whole animations got changed this year Game even got 3 DLCs, has full mod support and map editor - there's a lot of community maps and missions to download, most of them are shovelware (missions without page preview) but good missions are good. Plus game is very cheap, I recommend buying Normandy DLC from the start because this campaign is a very top quality compared to other ones, the rest if you want to support the dev or you want to do some community maps
ive been binging this series. You have me saving for another pc and getting back into touch with people i used to play these games with, i appreicate it

thank you for showing off urban terror game. its beeing worked on ever since its first beta. the game has a unique combination of fast pace action and some jumping skills usage that helps the better players. it might be hard at the beginning to understand all that but after some time it comes naturally as you could experiance yourself. congratz for reaching 200k subscribers. big moment for a channel like yours =)
Looking on these games and people who play in them I'm feeling a strong sense of hopelessness, these games feel like a limbo for dead souls. But on the other side that looks kinda wholesome how people are able to enjoy games that no one knows about
When I got into PC gaming back around 2011 I remember hearing about tribes and how good it was. I tried Ascend around when it came out but being a noob to PC gaming a family computer that couldn't really "run" the game so much as show me slideshows of this game called Tribes. Of course I dropped it then and there but it's always sat at the back of my mind knowing how beloved the game was and how unique of a role it played in the FPS scene. I'm glad to hear that there's a new game coming out for all of the fans who stuck around.
Love that you covered pirates Vikings & knights, such a good game. shame it takes awhile to get a decent server with some players. Love you vid as usual man a lot of good games you covered there.
Oh man, randomly clicked this & seeing Tribes Ascend really sent me back. It somehow feels like it was older than 2012, but that's mostly because 2012 was a special year in its own way, where a lot of my time was filled between WoW & Tribes. Good times :')
Pirates vikings knights was so good im glad you spotlighted it i remeber playing it years ago and just being surprised at all you could do for a free game!
The original Tribes (Starsiege: Tribes) was an FPS offshoot from a series of mechwarrior-esque games. The "skiing" mechanic was actually a bug that was discovered when using the jetpacks on hill slopes and it became the meta for movement around the map, to the point that in the sequels it was implemented as an actual intended gameplay mechanic. I wore my fingers down to nubs playing Tribes 1 and 2. Not just the base modes, but also the many custom game modes that came out, even the RPG mod. When Ascend came out I gave it a long try, but it didn't really feel as nice as the originals.
I was a big Verdun player and played a bit of Isonzo. It's sad to see they were never really huge but I will always have fond memories of the game. I absolutely loved Verdun
I adored Tribes Ascend when it first came out. It was so fun, and after not playing for a few years I went back only to find the game dead. I really miss it.
I, and a few of my friends, had a few less than official copies of a few games. Notable ones being FTL (which is a fantastic game) and some version of Urban Terror. We would play on our school's shitty computers and have a grand time doing 2v2's and messing around. I'm happy to see it's not just some figment of my bored mind from my school days. Thanks for the video!
Back when I played Darkest Hour you would suddenly end up in a scrim, everyone expected to join up go to Whatever voice program was used at the time and play seriously, you had no clue what was happening, crawling with you squad for half an hour not knowing who was dead or alive in your team because there were no scoreboard until the game was over, omg so much fun!
Pirates, Vikings and Knights II (PVK II) is a great game. I've played it basically since it came out and before that there was a short-lived original PVK. The player base sort of goes in cycles. Some years back we had a "french invasion" where some French dude apparently made the game popular for a while and we reached the all-time high of an average of 60 active players most of the day. It was quite chaotic. Otherwise it often depends on new updates which will draw in some of the old-timers who've drifted off and possibly some newcomers if they're told about it. Occasionally it's been revived a bit by tournaments or even clan deathmatches. If you log in at the right time you might find a server with around 24 active people still.
I played Tannenberg the moment it went free on epic games and I really liked it. It gave me a lot of fun and although I have quickly realised there was a ton of bots, defending a trench with a few people using machine guns or holding one position consisting of a cannon and a cart for an hour alone felt great
a lot of the core team for Ascend IIRC; The studio is owned by a guy who used to be at Hi Rez but it is 100% under a separate umbrella and hopefully won't have the same issues Hi Rez does 😩; @@AbeTweakin

Urban Terror, the very best game!
Thanks for putting us in the spotlight ❤
Where do I get Urban Terror
Didn't this start off as a Quake 3 mod?
@@FlyboyHelosim absolutely, and it can still be played as a q3 mod if you'd really want to
@@BidyBiddle I thought I remembered seeing it in magazines back in the day. I never knew it was still around in any form. It was to Q3 what Counter-Strike was to Half-Life and Tactical Ops was to Unreal Tournament, when the multiplayer counter-terrorist craze started.
@@Official_Pain_Packercheck this videos description
man Urban Terror takes me right back, used to play it in Lan Nights with friends all the time in highschool.
tis is why it is so hard and frustrating joining a multiplayer game late.
Having 2 of my favorites that no one ever really talk about definitely got a sub :)
kinda crazy that i'm all the way from brasil and youtube recomended your video from nowhere, and i got shocked when the first game was urban terror, my eyes literally watered from nostalgia
it was the first game that i made friends back when i was like 11 years old, and the logo of the game its my steam profile picture for a long time. amazing video man
Congrats on the 200k, just before Christmas! Lovely video to have on while editing.
I can't believe you put Darkest Hour here... played this many years ago and was like a constant player back then. I didn't like the direction it went with the base building and whatnot but it was a ton of fun especially when that game was like a light in the darkness for me.
What I also love about Isonzo is the realistic voicelines. As an Austrian it surprised me to hear them yell in an Austrian dialect
one of my favorite games of all time is prolly nationstates. it has a pretty large community that have stuck with it since the very beginning in 2002. it has grown in popularity ever since and has one of the friendliest communities i have ever been apart of. i started playing in 2015 and i don't think i'll ever stop.
Urban terror is still one of the best games. First found it 10 years ago and still love it
I absolutely loved Tribes ascend. The movement was so fun once you got the hang of it.
i remember playing pirates, vikings and knight back in the day. when it was just a mod you needed to install manually. had a pretty big playerbase. just a fun silly game to sink some time in to. good to some people are still playing it, even if it is not a lot.
I played A LOT of DH for a few years after it released, a lot of fun memories. Used to be really good at beaning dudes with the Kar 98 from long distance.
Our boy Rye finally 200k! When I found him, I wanna say a Lil less than 100k. Proud to be here b4 he blows up and hits 1mil. Keep it up Rye! You make my night every single night!!! 🎉🎉🎉😊
"it's all good bro, you're here"
made me genuenly tear up followed by the emotional music you played esp in the insonzo part
never played these games myself but many others and this kinda sparked the memories
I freaking love this series. It’s so entertaining! 👍🏻
Pirates, Vikings, and Knights holds such a special place in my heart. A free multiplayer mod in my teens, found a server and used to spend hours on it with the regulars.
Come on Rye, you should be adding chapters to your timeline !
00:20 Urban Terror
05:38 Tribes Ascend
10:04 Isonzo
12:38 Pirates, Vikings and Knights II
15:15 Easy Red 2
17:50 Darkest Hour Europe '44-'45
Something I enjoyed learning is that Pirates Vikings and Knights 1 was a mod for battlefield 2 of all things
I loved Tribes Ascent :( It was incredibly addicting and once you got the mid air shots down you were a GOD
Happy to see Darkest Hour here! A lot of love is put in the game and we are still working hard on new content.
In PVK2 you get the treasure chests and take them to your base, then the number on top goes up slowly until you get a certain point and it will determine the win. The more chests you have the faster the number goes up.
Man i started to play Darkest Hour regularly since June of this year, the mod is so good im glad that you covered it
Used to be better before they made it like squad...
@@masterterrorman I have seen few people mention this i wish i could had experience that era of the mod
Tribes was legitimately a great game series, and I had a blast playing it growing up. I still have the Tribes 2 disk from way back!
Easy Red 2 shines in its single-player.
I am so glad you covered urban terror :) one of my teenagehood game! Which also taught me mapmaking. You actually jumped on a remake I made of a famous map (3:40) we had back then, before they switched engine.
always good to see darkest hour
Oh my god, i used to play PVK II a ton a bunch of years ago, nice to see it still being around
That's something I'd like to learn about 😂
Its great to see you covered Tribes: Ascend, i used to love playing it back in the day and kept up with it for a while.
I have over 12k hours in easy red 2
i genuinely love these videos i just turned 16 and whenever i was 11-14 me and my friends would play tf2 old csgo because its all our computers could handle and thats all i really did through ym young teen years and recentley ive been feeling like ive wasted them these videos are nostalgic and sad to me at the same time and it really reminds me that even though all i did was play hose old dead games i was still with the people i cared about and thats never a wast thank you rye
Easy Red 2 has just a small audience, it's game made by a single dev that constantly updates the game since 2020 and considering the state from 2020 the game has improved a lot - it's has less junk and whole animations got changed this year
Game even got 3 DLCs, has full mod support and map editor - there's a lot of community maps and missions to download, most of them are shovelware (missions without page preview) but good missions are good.
Plus game is very cheap, I recommend buying Normandy DLC from the start because this campaign is a very top quality compared to other ones, the rest if you want to support the dev or you want to do some community maps
I love the undertale soundtrack in the video. Its so nostalgic and beautiful to hear this great piece of art.
ive been binging this series. You have me saving for another pc and getting back into touch with people i used to play these games with, i appreicate it
I love when your videos pop up in my feed! Not only do I get to explore games I've never even heard of with still active communities, I also get to listen to the Undertale soundtrack again which is a real treat. Absolutely fantastic content, I'm so glad I found your channel!
Dude I played Viking pirates and knights ages ago. Wow that brought me a few a years back
thank you for showing off urban terror game. its beeing worked on ever since its first beta. the game has a unique combination of fast pace action and some jumping skills usage that helps the better players. it might be hard at the beginning to understand all that but after some time it comes naturally as you could experiance yourself. congratz for reaching 200k subscribers. big moment for a channel like yours =)
Looking on these games and people who play in them I'm feeling a strong sense of hopelessness, these games feel like a limbo for dead souls. But on the other side that looks kinda wholesome how people are able to enjoy games that no one knows about
It was really nice to see Tribes Ascend. Tribes was an amazing series. My favorite of all time. I made a few life-long friends playing those games.
I love this series and your editing. Simplistic and not full of nonsense reminds me of old UA-cam! Cheers bro
I'm glad to hear that there's a new game coming out for all of the fans who stuck around.
the "exploring dead games" series is so underrated.
you are doing a great job rye and deserve more subs.
At my school everyone would play urban terror all the time. Even the teacher would join in sometimes
that's crazy. Good for them. ^^
Very Happy to see Urban terror. It is fantastic and the community was always kind and inviting.
Man, seeing urban terror just unlocked a memory I forgot I had.
I love the Sound between the games it already gives me goosebombs
hey, these are my favorite videos since the last few weeks. The music and your commentary are so icocnic and amusing. Thank you and keep it up.❤
Love these! It's fun to think of these worlds people created years ago still being visited today.
Love that you covered pirates Vikings & knights, such a good game. shame it takes awhile to get a decent server with some players.
Love you vid as usual man a lot of good games you covered there.
I absolutely loved the Tribes game series in my youth. Many hundreds of hours have been lost to the Tribes games.
DAMN I remember playing old urban terror movement maps, what a sick game
I absolutely loved Verdun
revenant is always making DH matches fun lol hes kinda annoying sometimes, but the community loves him
I adored Tribes Ascend when it first came out.
It gave me a lot of fun and although I have quickly realised there was a ton of bots, defending a trench with a few people using machine guns or holding one position consisting of a cannon and a cart for an hour alone felt great
My old man's been a regular Tribes 2 player for the past couple decades and is still playing it to this day. Only game he's really had a knack for.
Tribez is an all time favorite game series that started in the 90s. Wish it worked out better in the end
Tribes 3 is having a playtest right now. But it's being made by some team I've never heard of.
a lot of the core team for Ascend IIRC; The studio is owned by a guy who used to be at Hi Rez but it is 100% under a separate umbrella and hopefully won't have the same issues Hi Rez does 😩; @@AbeTweakin
Oh I remember Tribes Ascend. Dude the gameplay was soooo good. I really loved how the Play button was grayed out just right to keep you waiting in anticipation of maybe possibly pressing it one day.
I uninstalled shortly after and forgot the game existed.
omg Tribes Ascend. I liked this game and forget about it for many years. Thank you for bringing back good memories!
hey, these are my favorite videos since the last few weeks. The music and your commentary are so icocnic and amusing. Thank you and keep it up.
noway i totally forgot about urban terror. wow the nostalgia hit me hard. thanks for reminding me about this game.
One game I use to play that wasn't very well known was a game called Dust 514. Servers were shut down, but the studio is working on a new EVE FPS
This video is basically showing that all my favorite games from my late teens early twentys are dead. It was a nostalgia lane to watch this video but also so sad.
PVK2 is insanely good game. More people should try it.
I love the world War one game series. There not just redskins each is its own game which accurately depicts different fronts in ww1. Would highly recommend them to people there alot of fun and the game play is crisp 👌🏻
All I am going to say is thank you for reminding me of Tribes!! I used to religiously play this game... Like Tribes and Tribes 2 I had 100s to 1000's of hours. It was literally one of my all time favorite games.
Great video!!! I would suggest u a game called S4 League. It got taken down and the community revived the game and called is S4 Xero. S4 League came out in 2007. It even had eSport.
honestly love the vibe of that forest in darkest hour, very atmospheric
