Rye Games explores both old and newer dead games today, including a popular FPS game made by BlueDrake called Operation Harsh Doorstop. That's a Realistic Mil Sim, but the other games are different. Miscreated is a popular survival game that is a shell of its former self & MinecraftOnline is the oldest minecraft server in the world, with the longest running minecraft world without resets in existence. Another great vid as always! I previously recommended Wolfenstein Enemy Territory and it was awesome seeing you play, explore and teach us the history of it, many things I didn't know myself! I have another great recommendation, a game called "Tremulous" that was released back in 2006! It's a very unique game, almost MOBA like, where you either play as a Human or Alien, trying to take each others base/nest out. It has a ton of depth, with different creatures you can mutate into, or different weapons and defenses for both. Would be super awesome to see you play and cover that! Battlefield Heroes is one of the games that is way ahead of it's time. Oh, the memories...
The beta was so. much. better than the release version. So many microtransactions, they ruined it so badly. Rising hub is way better but the fundamental issues are still there & without source code I don't think they'll get fixed :/

I had no clue Battle field heroes had "another " developers. Heard the servers got shut down and it would never be back. I actually own a t-shirt that i won in an official EA competition (making a picture of sorts regarding the game). Man, i grew up with it, these 2mins of gameplay brought a smile to my face. This game forever will be in my memory.

@@maxivilsiI was 44-46 when I played it. Spent a lot more on this "free-to-play" game than any other game, never thought the fun would end. Tried RisingHub a couple of years ago, and it is still a great game, but the players are just insanely good, and I think there is no functioning ELO-system due to lack of players, so one is completely without chance.
Rising Storm/Red Orchestra 2 is one of my favorite games. Winning a Japanese campain and seeing the vicotry cutscene is the most satisfying thing.

I served under 22's command. Living in Asia is kinda hard it either Chinese server or 2AM gaming.
They really botched the release. The prototype MP44 the Germans had basically turned any pre-order player into a COD hero. I remember wiping out so many people while runing and gunning, it was insane.

I wish to go back to 2014 and relive the glorious days of this game again. Especially the Heroes of the West mode.
Remember also playing a game clled Ace of Spades which was a really cool little game before the devs got greedy, completely changed the entire game and monetized it. Was very sad to watch this happen.
There are revivals of it, i think around 2-3. They had a good amount of numbers about 2 years ago

I actually spent a good amount of time on Minecraftonline. Everyone there is really nice, and it’s awesome to just explore. Random houses that are 10 years old or more scattered all over the place even hundreds of thousands of blocks out.

I'm a Rising Storm/Red Orchestra 2 player.
It's a really fun game. Not that hard to get into, but a lot to do.
German vs Russian, and American vs Japanese battles.
The servers are usually pretty active on the weekends at least. And you can also play training games against bots.
The maps are accurate for a number of historical locations. So you can try to inch up the hill at Iwo Jima if you're brave.
Many games on The Bridges of Druzhina, and The Myshkova river.
We'd be happy to have more players.
God I miss Battlefield Heroes. It was so fun. It's so tragic because it could survive perfectly these days. Back then, surviving on cosmetics was a no go. But now? Easy.
Btw there's no gear stats, unless the private server added it. The original just had cosmetics and P2W healing items.
I'm dreading the day I see the dead game that really broke my heart, Beyond the Wire, on this series.
It was one of the best WW1 games i ever played, and the only one besides BF1 that wasnt just a cycle of dying to a guy i couldnt see over and over again.
But for some reason, it just died in a few months.
Sad finally seeing RO2 on here. So many good memories of that game, but Rising Storm 2 split the player base quite a bit. I loved doing the campaign maps for RO2 where you had to take territory by winning each maps in a long back and forth until one team ultimately won the campaign hours in. Squad Leader was my position of choice, providing a solid spawn point and assisting the Team Leader with high value target marks for artillery. That or grabbing a sniper and getting a flank position overlooking common defense points, pelting the enemy high value targets to stop them from getting a foothold.
That is the eternal fate of every indie tactical FPS. Sequel comes out bit after previous game is fixed, splits player base, but almost always doesn't get everyone from previous game on board because upon release new game is a buggy mess.
Antimatter/Tripwire actually intended to port RO2/RS1 to Rising Storm 2's unreal engine build but development on the game fell through when Antimatter was sold off. What especially unfortunate is that they released the game on Epic and broke a bunch of stuff to the point where it's actually in a more broken state than it was at release.
Battlefield Heroes was a game I was so sad for when it went away. It was ahead of its time, mixing in hero based gameplay and battlefield's conquest mode. Years ago, RisingHub was still new, and wasnt really ready for play. But seeing that its in a much better state, Im going to have to check it out.
It's really fun! Usually when people get off work etc, there will be around 60-100 people online, so many servers are full of players!

I used to play Miscreated all the time because I loved the few firefights I got in and the goofing around. Wish it was still poppin
yeah but since they added rad storms and shit like this the game wasnt fun anymore, i mean cmon it was already hard enough :D
I also got Red Orchestra 2 official recently. Incredibly cheap and a great experience, doing Banzai charges in Saipan and clearing tight rooms in Stalingrad is an amazing experience, incomparable.
Plus, you get 2 free hats in TF2. 10/10.

No way you did miscreated. I spent so much time on that game. The hidden bases the wars and how scary it was. I absolutely loved this game and spent so much time on it. Then the Chinese came in hacked the game and helped kill it.
Man you unlocked some childhood memories with battlefield hero’s, i used to play that shit on the daily when i was younger, together with my cousin.

I started playing Miscreated in 2016. Still playing it on some occasions. Cool game.
I miss the good old days while playing Battlefield Heroes also watching my brother play it since we had to share the pc around that time still, there were even like tournaments happening, if i remember correctly between a few european countries and also just between people from my country, my older brother was even a part of a few of them. RIP Battlefield Heroes one of the best games i've played in my childhood and still missed to this day.
EDIT: I even found 2 old videos from 10-11 years ago, because i remembered that one of his teammates filmed videos and i saw my brothers in game nickname.

Seeing Battlefield Heroes really made me smile man, I used to play that game sooo much cause other games didn't run on my old ass rusty rig haha
Boundary was extremely fun during the beta, I just didn’t have the money at the time for it and it’s sad to see how it fell. It was such a unique shooter for a newer game
I never played Minecraft but I do love the history side of it. Growing up before the internet I like the old side of the internet. Netscape, Neoplanet, Geocities, Excite, all that stuff. It's great to see old stuff still around somewhere online.

I'll always remember the great times I had playing Rising Storm 1 when it came out, easily sunk at least a hundred hours into it alone not counting Red Orchestra.

Miscreated was so good when it was on. Damn, that one hurts me the most thinking about how the dev team for that game dropped the ball. It was so good and had so much potential.

21:10 watching this makes me wanna play battlefield heroes again, I used to play this game when I was a kid every day after school. those was truly the good old days, sadly they shut the game down I tried to play on the remakes but only met a lot of hacker.
i can suggest you resistance 1 multiplayer for this series. servers are basically dead but the community sometimes gather around for some rounds (usualyl fridays and weekends)
but you either need a ps3 or emualator

Next I'd suggest Natural Selection or Natural Selection II. Both had some massive player bases in their prime and have dwindled down to a few handfuls of players (especially NS1), but were amazing games.
Can put killing floor 2 in the list. I have so many hours in that game.

I'm so delighted to see battlefield heroes again. It was my childhood. Played it so god damn much before the shut down. And I knew that rising hub revived the game but never actually played it after the server shutdown. Well this 2min clip gave me so much joy that I think I need to boot up to rising hub and get into some games :)

I loved to play red orchestra 2. I always played bridges of druzhina on the axis side as a machine gunner.
Minecraft Online sounds like an awesome place! If I was ever going to play Minecraft on my own (or possibly even with friends), it would definitely be my number one place to go. "Huge no griefing survival server that isn't riddled with indestructible blocks everywhere" sounds like peak Minecraft to me.
I really want to play Boundary now because it's like a space cod. It looks like a ton of fun even for $19.99.

Life is Feudal: Your Own; was a fantastic medieval sandbox castle building game that is pretty much completely dead. They tried to make an MMO out of it too which never took off because of some legal issues or something with the publisher or something. A few servers still kicking along though, usually modded and have real tight communities

So glad you get to talk about BFH. It was my childhood game with a friend of mine and we had such a fun time playing it. It was fun, stylish, kind of the premices of actually every F2P games with battle pases and expensive weapons and skins. Along with games like TF2.

Boundary can definitely still be saved. Make it F2P, make a port to next-gen consoles, add crossplay and enjoy a moderate to high success.

Worlds Adrift was an amazing game, had so much potential, but few know about it.
Problems it had were: large amount of glitches/bugs, and towards the end there were PvP issues with a massive end-game clan harassing newer players and beginners who had absolutely no chance against them..
Red Orchestra 1 and 2 were amazing. I have such great memories of them. I couldn't get into Vietname Rising Storm though
Useless bit of info. Red Orchestra was born into sales after it won the Unreal competition for best mod. They one mil dollars and went on to make the studio and release the game as a full game
I played the original Red Orchestra combined arms mod. I still play RO2/RS on semi regular basis.
I was playing a game while watching this video on the side until I heard battlefield heroes song... childhood flashbacks stunned me. thanks brother, battlefield heroes is still my fav game of all time

Boundary was incredible and actually helped me with my fear of floating endlessly into the void. Its just hard to wait 8-10 mins to match into a game.
I remember being so hyped for Boundary, but when I seen that it had mixed reviews upon release, I decided to wait on the purchase until they fixed the issues people were talking about.
Sad to see those fixes never happened.

Your bringing a tear in my eyes, mate. I remember playing it when it first came out. It was fantastic, goofy and what did suck is how the game died. Battlefield bad compliant 3 was being released a few years later by the same dev team and resources were removed from Battlefield Heroes. It also didn't help that it was p2w game during the later years. It had so much potential and it was let go. Also a big no no was the enforced spyware and hidden malware within the files (from the original game). So they used the anti cheat thing, but it also kicked out good to great players from the servers because the software thought we were cheating. It did kick the cheaters, but the good square players didn't need to get kicked. I think I also played Kuma War a military simulator. But, I wouldn't recommend it unless you want your PC to be filed with Trojans, Malware etc. Back then my parents PC had Windows XP and I messed it up. 5,000 viruses, I'm not proud of it. 😬 I learned never download games from sketchy adverts or untrustworthy sites. So now it's just Steam, PSN store, XBOX pass, etc. just the legit ones. This how ever doesn't include emulation software and games that separate. But, it be great to save up for a PC handheld like the MSI Claw. Have you heard of Neo pets that's dying. Adventure Quest which was a turn based Javascript software was single player free to play RPG. Not many people play it.

It's kinda shadow of the glory of original Red Orchestra's community versions of Danzig. Community version of Danzig evolved opening one room at the time until every single room in every building were accessible.

It would be cool if you checked out other genre than shooters. I propose to take a look at Soapbox (Fan made NFS World), Project Torque, Victory the age of racing, and finally Drift City if that exists.

I'd suggest trying out "Aliens vs Predator 2" multiplayer here :) A nostalgic "dead" game I go back to every now and then. Technically the games servers are dead but exists a community patch that revived it couple of years ago. Last played it sometime earlier last year and could still find somewhat populated servers at peak hours, not sure how it is now o:

Check out some of the old half life 1 mods. The Entmod map in Sven Coop is the grandfather of Gmod. The Specialists was a matrix themed first & third person shooter that had a massive RP community. Hostile Intent was the first FPS I ever played that didn’t have a crosshair. My steam account turns 20 this year. I wish I could go back to those days.

Could you try Natural Selection 2? It's got a unique gameplay of Marine VS Alien with each team having a commander supporting the troops on the frontlines with distinct respective abilities, the community is still going strong with some very old players but also a healthy amount of rookies, however the dev team annouced that it had arrested development for the game.

Operation harsh doorstep was so hyped at launch bit suffered really badly with cheaters for ages till some recent updates I feel like that pushed a lot of people away from continuing playing
Damn i have tears in my eyes through the minecraft part.. i have so much memories to this game.. thousands of hours on so many public servers, our servers, singleplayer, ps4 minecraft.. I practically grew up with this game.. im 26 years old now and we play with my friend time to time :) i have been playing with him since version 1.2.5 released in 2012.
For me its just best game in the world :)
