    Hey everyone! I hope you enjoy todays video comparing the iPhone 14 Pro Camera to my Pro Camera, the Sony A7IV at a portrait photoshoot. I'm going to be comparing: iPhone wide angle camera vs GM 14mm f1.8, iPhone main camera vs GM 24mm f1.4, iPhone 2x zoom vs Zeiss 50mm f1.4 and iPhone 3x telephoto vs GM 85mm f1.4. Let me know what you think of the comparison and if you want to see the same comparison between the Google Pixel 7 Pro vs my Camera as well.

    I'm so glad you did this. Often when I photograph my daughter's volleyball team at events I will use my Sony a9, but then also take the same shot with my iPhone 13 and thought it was me that made it so that the iPhone pic was just as good as the professional camera. I thought I was failing at doing my settings. Now I know the iPhone is just that good!

    I can't wait until we start to finally see larger sensors on phones. I use a combo of an A7iv and iphone 14 pro and I'm always so underwhelmed by iphone photos/videos. They're better than they used to be but they still have a long way to go. Especially when taking photos of animals/toddlers who are always moving.

      Yeah, the problem with these types of comparisons is that you're handicapping the pro camera to match something far inferior. I mean 90% of the photos that come out of that Sony are probably magazine cover quality, vs. maybe 1 out of 10 for the iphone in very specific situations.

    Nice video! I don't think it's a fair comparison when you are matching the apertures. Whats the point of fast camera lens if you're going to dial down the aperture? Also, would be nice if you did night shots comparisons.

    • @juliatrotti
      @juliatrotti  Рік тому +1

      Thank you! Yep, I do mention at the beginning of the video that I am purposefully stepping down my aperture so it matches the phone and that a camera is usually capable of more. But there are a few reasons I decided to do this. If I were to shoot wide open the results would look way too different and the bokeh would be too distracting. I think it's more interesting to see the comparisons when they looks as similar as possible. With cameras, while I personally love shooting wide open a lot of the time, it's also very common for photographers to shoot at anywhere between f2.8-f8 even for portraits. Optimal sharpness of a lens is very rarely wide open too, it's usually around f2-f5.6.

    @paiman_ Рік тому

    It would be nice to see a standard focal length 50mm equivalent, large sensor (close to 1inch) on a phone.
    Now THAT would give some real bokeh.
    The regular 23mm wide angle main sensor is not going to provide much in terms of bokeh because it's a wide angle lens unless you get very very close to your subject (which is not ideal for portraits).

    I just don't understand the idea of trying to match the A74 settings to the phone. It may be a sort of fun to see thing but the whole point of using a "real" camera over a phone is that it can do a lot more. Taking portrait photos using a really high aperture is just something you would never do with that mirrorless camera almost ever. It's nice to show that you can in certain scenarios you get similar photos with an iphone than with an A74 but not showing the other side of things where there's a lot the phone can't do in comparison is...well...weird.

  • @JanDevera
    @JanDevera Рік тому +1

    All these videos are shot in style - we set the same parameters on the pro camera as the iPhone. Then it looks like the iPhone gives almost the same results. But it's very misleading. What about finally making a video where you use the full potential of the pro camera and try to set the iPhone accordingly instead? For example if you are shooting with an 85mm f1.4 lens why do you stop down to 5.6? That lens is built for shallow depth of field so why not set it to f1.4 then let the iPhone show what it can do? Then you can easily prove that the claim that the IPhone can do the same as an expensive camera is just a marketing trick.

      Actually, the Xiaomi 12S Ultra phone has interchangeable lens already. Will have to look more into testing it, but that's already one of my wishes knocked off!
      It's over for DSLR's soon.

      who says people desire editing an entire video on their phone?. and most modern cameras let you wirelessly transfer photos. The points you are making are strangely anti DSLR and seemingly baseless.

      @admastudios3700 I want phones to win. It's a portable device that does a lot more than any other device.
      I'm probably in the minority then who enjoys the portability of editing on the phone. The quality of the DSLR is still superior because of the lens choices, but yo, as we speak, Samsung Galaxy S22 and S23 Ultra can shoot 10bit video and it looks fucking amazing! That's not a baseless argument. I haven't heard a single argument coming from you as to why I'm wrong.

    Pointless comparison, you try to downgrade your procam’s capability to match that of an iPhone. Same garbage in, similar garbage out

      Mate, what are you even referring to saying Julia tried to downgrade capability in the a7iv shots? All images were shot on GM and Zeiss primes. 🤨

      You people are funny. Everyone knows that cameras will always be better. Physic is physic. Why are you so easily triggered ? The possibiility to shoot RAW photos on a phone won't change anything.
      She wanted to just show that phone photography made a big jump

      @@danpodbierezki she stopped down to f2.8 and lower when the lenses are capable of being much more wide open.

      exactly, the 24gm shot would be a lot better @1.4
      or i guess put it another way, you might as well use a phone instead of using a camera with those f4-6.3 kit zooms
