Very nice test, would be cool to see applications of these phones to wildlife photography
Thanks! I think for that the sensor is still too small and the lens not long enough
Cool video, hoping to see more photos comparison between 15 base and pro models
Thanks! Unfortunately, I don’t have access to the iPhone 15 Pro
Very helpful review. I have an IPhone se version 3 model and have been impressed by the photos that it has taken, but am aware of some of its limitations.. I have been looking at changing my phone for an IPhone 14 Pro or an IPhone 15 and found your side by side comparison very useful. As a newbie to the art of photography, i can see that either of them would be a step up to improving the quality of photo's but overall i do like the idea of the additional zoom that the Pro has. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge and experience to those of us less able.
Even though both are 48MP, they are using completely different sensors.
The 48MP sensor on the 15 Pro is taken straight from 14 Pro. They both houses the same 48MP sensor. Both with same focal length, same f/1.78 aperture, exactly same sensor size and same pixel size.
The 48MP sensor of 14 Pro and 15 Pro have larger pixel size of 1.22 um (48MP mode) and 2.44 um (for 12MP mode). They also comes with much larger sensor size of 1/1.28 inch.
Meanwhile, the baseline 15 has smaller 1.0 um pixel size and smaller sensor size of 1/1.56” with standard focal length of 26mm.
Apart from lacking telephoto lens on baseline 15, the major different that people don’t talk about it that the baseline 15 is lacking PDAF auto focus like current and previous Pro models and instead using fixed focus.
I upgraded from baseline 14 to 14 Pro and the biggest quality and performance difference comes down to the ultra-wide camera.
The ultra-wide sensor remains the same with previous non-pro models with only new algorithm and software to make improvements. Baseline models never had auto-focus and the aperture f/2.4 remain the same since baseline iPhone 11’s ultra-wide camera.
This is why the resolved details are way less and appear softer on the corners. The lacking of auto-focus is why baseline 15 is not getting the macro mode as well. Combine the slower aperture, small sensor and lacking auto-focus the result on low-light is really not up to standard for baseline iPhones.
Buying a 2 years used 13 pro is a good option or buying a 1 year used 14 pro?? 13 pro ks availabke for 660 dollars and 14 pro for 900 usd...please say which to buy
There are many factors to consider. If you can afford it, I would go for the 14 Pro
