- Comparison video of Arkanoid / アルカノイド (Taito 1986), featuring gameplay of one level of the following versions:
0:00 Arcade (1986)
1:27 Nintendo NES / Famicom (1986)
2:30 NEC PC-8801mkII SR (1986)
3:44 NEC PC-9801F (1987)
5:26 Amiga (1987)
6:36 Atari ST (1987)
7:58 Commodore 64 / C64 (1987)
9:05 Amstrad CPC (1987)
10:53 ZX Spectrum (1987)
12:08 Atari 8-bit family (1987)
12:58 BBC Micro (1987)
14:09 Thomson MO/TO (1987)
15:06 MSX (1987)
15:59 PC DOS (CGA) (1988)
17:36 PC DOS (Tandy) (1988)
18:37 Macintosh (1988)
19:38 Apple IIGS (1988)
21:12 Apple II (1988)
23:01 TRS-80 CoCo 1 / 2 (1989)
24:16 TRS-80 CoCo 3 (1989)
25:26 J2ME (2002)
26:08 Flash (2005)
27:18 J2ME (2006)
28:19 J2ME (Arkanoid DX) (2007)
The CGA version featured in the video uses PC Speaker to play audio. Instead of the EGA configuration, we decided to record the Tandy one for a better sound quality. The EGA version would look identical to the Tandy version but with the PC Speaker sound.
Which is your favorite version? Which one do you think is the best Arcade port?

that intro was very creative, dude
The Spectrum is surprisingly good
I was about the post the exact same comment. :)
For once... :-)
And simulates analog controls by speeding up the ship when it's far from the ball. Not everyone like it, but for me at least, the playability was amazing and fun
@@felipegcs I was going to mention this as well, very good port, which I did played to the end back in the day.
I enjoyed this version a lot. Nice port, I agree with you.
I love this game. The montage you made in the Intro was fantastic. Kudos!
Oh yes this a real classic, this brings back memorys. Thank you :)
So many surprises here, including the intro.. well done! And that c64 music is so out of place, yet so awesome!
I've only ever played _Arkanoid Plus_ on the Wii out of all the games in the series, but the original looks like a great game, too, and all of its ports look at least playable.
I mostly played the Amstrad CPC version which wasn’t the best but I was impressed by the vertical overscan. Many versions here I didn’t know of. I love how the black and white Macintosh version looks !
Amstrad CPC version is one of the best 8bit one.
¡Gran juego, si señor! Yo tenia (y tengo) la versión a C-64 y se me han saltado las lágrimas...
I love the Amstrad version, but I also find the Coco 1/2 version refreshingly different
I really like games of this genre, so this is appreciated.
Seems as long as the ball and paddle movement is smooth it would be perfectly playable.
I just love Arkanoid :) played it for 35 yrs now
Good retrospective!
Being this one of my favorite games, I found this video very interesting. Didn't know there were so many different versions!❤
Thanks!
BBC Micro version is pretty darn good looking.
The unofficial Acorn Archimedes clone, released as Fireball II, looks even better, and add a series of background Tracker tracks.
@@AndrewRoberts11 I remember it well. It played a sample of 'Paradice City' by Guns 'N' Roses when you died. Great game.
Sound is amazing on the Commodore 64. If I remember correctly it was criticised by some people at the time because the laser pick up doesn't come down often enough.
That would explain why it took so long to get through a level. Never really played it because of that. The video is even skipping parts of the C64 gameplay because it takes so long :-)
@@Hexagonaal Exactly :)
Nice job friend!
nice work :D
I think you can add the homebrews just for see how the game run on the system that never officialy realeased
PS : thank you to add the Thomson MO/TO versions. These computers are legendary in my country.
The homebrew version for the atari 7800 looks awesome ua-cam.com/video/xbmlFOvEDik/v-deo.html
@@swapd0 honestly the atari 7800 is super underrated. Especially when utilized to its maximum potential.
@@Sinistar1983 True, just look at popeye
@@Sinistar1983 Great console but Atari just fucked it up with that retarded 2600 backwards compatibility. Seriously, if they didn't bother with that and tried to compete with the NES/SMS, maybe we would live in an era where we grew up on a 7800 and not on an NES.
Merry christmas 🎄
That's a lot of versions. Well done!
Thanks!
Grew up with the NES version. Not gonna lie, it’s a classic
Brings back some happy memories…
To play the C64 version, you need bionic eyes to see the ball
What about Macintosh version?
YES THAT WAS HORRIFIC! 🤣@@kacperkacper7586
Man, hearing the sounds of the NES version is so nostalgic for me. Reminds me of 1000-in-1 game carts, with Mighty Bomb Jack, Milon's Secret Castle, Super Mario 3...
I could see Rodger Craig Smith calling out the power up like he does with the Wisps power up in Sonic Colors, Lost World & Generations.
I've developed "Intensity" for Windows, Linux and Android, which is a mix of "Arkanoid" and shot'em-up, with scrolling and a awesome spherical effect 😀
Good vid, love this game
I love how every platform added special charm to the experience.
Does it plug in / vibrate for the air hockey part so the puck moves easily? Yes.
Hace años yo jugaba una recreacion de Arkanoid en una pagina del navegador y era multijugador y con los sonidos del Arcade, lo llamaban Paranoid aunque actualmente ya no existe mas pero me encantaba jugar esa version :'3
I play arkanoid on a c64 emulator a lot. Martin knew what he was doing with the music lol
Amiga version is perfect
if Amiga Arkanoid not a lazy Atari ST remake
Amiga Arkanoid arcade perfect port (version)
The Acorn Archimedes clone, released as Fireball II, add a series of background Tracker tracks.
The C64 version had great playability & a fantastic Martin Galway music suite, which was the title music, all the ditties, and gane finishing music. The original arcade version looks and sounds the best, but was incredibly hard.
As a cool suggestion, castlevania rondo of blood. The ports for it are quite interesting
My Best Childhood Game Ever I Have a Great Memories With This Game
Arkanoid is the Taito's respond to Breakout, it has many home computer/personal computer ports.
Was there 2 versions for the Atari ST? I remember the version I had was by Imagine but the on here didn’t have that credit on the right side.
Maybe you're confusing with Arkanoid : Revenge of Doh?
@@iXien I just realized the European ST version is published by Imagine so it has their logo and Peter Johnson’s (developer’s) name on the right side of the screen.
Sick intro
0:00 Nice intro!
The intro song never gets old.
always loved the amiga one, was basically arcade perfect
if it is not a lazy Atari ST remake
Amiga Arkanoid = arcade perfect
I think we do all agree that the C64 version has the best overall acoustic, don't we? But have to admit that some versions have some (to me) surprisingly good sound effects, espacially the CPC and the Mac versions.
And WTF..? In this one video here i saw more lasers dropped in non-c64 versions than i saw (and got) in all the years i played the c64 version..
IN mobile there´s a spiritual sequel called breakout breaker star that has very similar sound, 500 levels and new mechanics. It´s free.
So basically this is just a more advanced version of Break Out.
And VASTLY SUPERIOR!!
Me sorprendió la de.amstrad
Please do Versions Comparison of Sonic Robo Blast 2 (including SAGE 2000, Xmas 0.93, etc.)
The Apple IIGS version is my favorite one
What about DS? Its my favourite. Specially the soundtrack.
Great game but we consider it too different from the Arcade.
the AppleIIGS is pretty good, how does it control?
The one which I was playing on laptop was different and little dwarfs were also there who throws the flower pots
También apareció en Arkanoid vs Space Invaders
can you do moon patrol all versions? please 🙏
Me parece que olvídates una comparación
El Arkanoid DS para nds
Arkanoid Doh it Again made me hammerfist my arcade console to bits. Those to butt-chinned Easter island fucks destroyed my piece of mind after about my 80th consecutive loss.
하 이거 30년은 됐을듯 조이스틱이 다이얼이였죠 추억 돋는 게임이네요
Amiga Version for sure, tho I do like the sound on the c64. Some of those versions seem to have only two angles the ball can go in! But it's basically breakout+ so I'm not surprised there were acceptable versions that ran on potatoes.
This is the best, ANCIENT BRICKS soooo cooooool play since many years

Mobile (2023): Boring vector based graphics made in Unity where you watch 30 second videos after each stage to get double the coins, and in order to upgrade your paddle you can buy through microtransactions a $9.99 pack that gives you 100 diamonds you can use to change your paddle's color. For $99.99 you can get a paddle that covers the entire screen and you can't lose.
I like All the Versions!!!!
wasn't this also on the sharp mz700?
I think this version is not official.

Información dont see the pc versión that i have
Anybody else notice the typo in the Atari ST version? "Tatio"?
yes i did it says (C) 1987 Tatio they should have
fixed up that error before releasing that version
@@jasonlee7816 indeed! Very un-porfessional! LOL
14:09 I know this is sold in France, but why it is in French?
Also, the MSX is laggy.
Because it was published under license from Ocean by FIL, a French publisher mostly doing things for Thomson computers, including a lot of educational software, it was actually partly owned by Thomson for a while. They published Thomson ports of quite a few games also licensed from Ocean/Imagine, I remember Green Beret and I think Yie Are Kung Fu. And so all of these ports were in French. FIL, like most things related to the Thomson train wreck, collapsed in 1988.
I loved the BBC Micro 32k version which was a very good port Indeed and spent many hours on it when I was a kid, but for me the winner was the Commodore 64k version.
The C64 gameplay is not really good. Watch the video, it took so long to get through a level. And the introduction music sound crap compared to the arcade. I just like how sound the sfx on this version.
2002年の東方妖々夢(東方紅魔郷)とほぼ同時発売
there was almost a different c64 port that was developped by firebird, but due to a lawsute between taito and atari (which the former obviously won) it was never released as atari was to pubblish it. this opened the door for Ocean software (who already had a relationship with taito creating ports of their other arcade games) buying the rights from right under Firebird's noses. firebird's port is currently said to be lost.
did Atari want to sue Taito?
did Taito want to sue Atari?
what was the lawsuit about?
1976 Breakout arcade game
Taito had copied Atari’s idea
@@jasonlee7816 Atari wanted to sue taito for coppyright and possibly patent infringement.
Nintendo Switch got its own version called Arcanoid Breakout
when i 1st saw this game i thaught it was a vertical pong with only 1 platform and some blocks
OMG 😱 My First Arkanoid Game I Ever Played 25:25
El que yo recuerdo es el de Super Nintendo, uff que era una Joya
Arkanoid, the original ASMR.
there is a color macintosh version as well
Daytona USA please!
Gradius soon?
I'll try!
This game reminds me of breakout.
@Nemo Pouncey wrong Arkanoid is an update or
an upgrade of the Breakout or Pong arcade game
This game was Ataris Breakout on steroids. It was awesome. Too bad they never tried am Atari 2600 version of this. Would have been interesting.
Faltó la de Snes y PS1 buen video.
6:54 Who's the Tatio Corporation?
Taito developed (made) the 1986 Arkanoid arcade game they might’ve also helped port it on various computers/consoles
La versión para arcade y nes me llame la atención
Ooh! I like that game! Also, I kinda stink at this game.
The Tandy version could be called the “Fart Sounds” version, lol
Who play the j2me (2002) version?
Try TRAZ on the C64... it can also be played 2 player.. it looks and plays and sounds better than any version of Arkanoid period...
Arcade first nad then amiga version rules. Like in moste cases ;))
Apple IIgs ftw
My favorite the NES
Now do Revenge of Doh! :)
Haha we will do it for sure sooner or later.
SNES Arkanoid Doh it Again should be included with a Revenge of Doh comparison video
@@jasonlee7816 Nice!
Arkanoid just feels like Breakout on steroids.
ST-Versión by "TATIO AMERICA"?
@Diskun My comment was about the misspelling: TATIO instead of TAITO. 😃
You forgot to include Arkanoid Plus (The Wii version)
Arkanoid Plus is the updated or upgraded version this is about the original Arkanoid
Why this is life game of life I love you with all my heart bye
Did I miss the snes version on here? 😩
SNES had the second part and not this Arkanoid
@@retrosutra oooohhhhh! You’re right. It was “Arkanoid: Doh It Again”!
Comparación de Darius por fa
Lo tenemos pendiente, sí y lo haremos seguro tarde o temprano

What about Rescue on Fractalus? It has ports plus an unreleased 7800 prototype.
the macintosh version looks like game boy (original)
