We would sit around a campfire in the Smokey Mountains of North Carolina and sing this together......it's a spiritual thing and John Denver had a perfect voice
"he'd be a poorer man if he never saw an eagle fly..." , gets me every time. For people who enjoy nature and the beauty of the mountains, it's a lyric that really hits home.
A symphony to nature by a man who took pleasure in what God gave. He was close to the natives. My greatest respect for his life's work. I am so sad that He was called home to the Creator on the way to His loved ones. Appreciate what nature gives to people. Don't trample on it, respect what has been given to you and treat nature with the dignity that She deserves. And you may have a fulfilling life with a clear conscience . RIP John Denver , fly high with the Eagles over your Loved Mountains
60’s and 70’s in America was a beauuuutiful showcase of various folk, hymns, gospel music traditions from all different ppl groups. Beautiful, soulful.. earthy. Love you two reactions. Genuine. Thanks!
I found your channel a few months ago. I'm sure I'm not the only old woman who watches your channel. I was born in 1960 so the music you react to is music I listened to when they first came out. To watch y'all is to remember moments of my life. A walk down memory lane. I love watching your reactions to music and artists that are new to you. You're both so respectful and you honor the great music you hear. Thank you.
His love of nature was expressed in many of his songs. I was in my late teens when he was becoming so popular. Loved him so much! i was devastated when he died so young. It still hurts, and I wonder how many more incredible songs he would have written if were still alive.
"He was born in the summer of his 27th year, coming home to a place he'd never been before" - those lyrics!💓 His songs connect directly to the soul. "Looking for Space" is another beautiful one I've heard. Thanks for the wonderful reaction guys!!
Right Katy?? I don't know how anybody could REALLY hear the lyrics of this song without getting a little "something in their eye." It's that movingly beautiful!
I could listen to John Denver all day. Everything works. The music, the lyrics, his voice and the way his songs make you feel while you're listening. Almost Heaven.
John Denver has some wonderful songs, this one is gorgeous, but I still love Country Roads, definitely one of my favourites! Another great song of John Denver's is Annie's Song, written for his wife, in 1974, such a beautiful song, used to hear it everywhere, especially at weddings. Other great songs are Leaving on a Jet Plane (1966) and Sunshine on my Shoulders (1971). Thanks for another great reaction, guys, enjoyed it very much. Wow, not long now until you reach the big 50K! And it will be very well deserved, after all your hard work. Take care now, guys and keep safe. ❤👍
If you want to hear one of his songs that makes you feel like you are on a small ship in the ocean, listen to "Calypso". It is one of my favorites and you will get to hear John yodel. He wrote this song in 1975 as a tribute to Jacques-Yves Cousteau and his research ship, the Calypso. As a kid I never missed a Jacques Cousteau TV special. His respect for the ocean and its sea life was very instructional. Denver and Cousteau became good friends and John even spent some time on one of his voyages. I think the live version from the Wildlife Concert is the best. Please take time to listen. Enjoy!
Denver has such a pure voice and his lyrics paint a beautiful picture. That line about the beauty of communing with nature - “talk to God and listen to the casual reply” is so well crafted.
If we all could see the world the way John Denver did, the world would the world we dream of. I think John Denver was one of the luckiest people that ever lived.
I wish more people would hear John Denver. He was such a wonderful person. And a great singer. In some songs , he can hold his note for about eight seconds
He was an amazing talented man. Down to earth, funny actor in films (Oh God!), singer, songwriter, performer, he was loved immensely and is missed greatly. Gone too soon.
This song and album was life-changing for me when it came out. I became a John Denver fan forever. I'm so glad to see young people discovering his music!
Growing up in Colorado my parents listened to this regularly. Now in my 40's it's our official State Song. It plays at every professional sporting event in our state and NEVER gets old! This world needs John Denver now more than ever.
Really liked and appreciated your reaction guys. I don't know if you are aware of facts that connect Rocky Mountain High and Take Me Home, Country Roads, both of which songs have been elevated to the status of a state songs since John's tragic death in 1997. Take Me Home, Country Roads is now a state song for West Virginia, and Rocky Mountain High is a state song for Colorado. With these two state songs John is now in an exclusive class of only two song writers with two state songs, Steven Foster in the 19th century and John in the 20th!
John Denver was an amazing artist. His vocals soar. He is a story teller. The accoustic guitar takes you on a journey outdoors. I would compare how John Denver makes you feel with the way Karen Carpenter brings emotion to her songs. Both voices are captivating and can be melancholy. I would recommend: Thank God I'm A Country Boy Annie's Song Sunshine On My Shoulders Back Home Again Fly Away
Finally "Rocky Mountain High" ! Thankyou ! This song made me tear up the 1st time I heard it all those decades ago when it was released. Today ? ... It still has the same effect. You need to hear the full album. It is a masterpiece !
You should check out John Denver's beautiful ballad called "Annie's Song," which he wrote about his first wife. It went to No. 1 on the U.S. pop charts in 1974. He also had a No. 2 hit in 1975 called "Calypso," a tribute song to French oceanographer-environmentalist-documentarian Jacques Cousteau and his crew aboard the research ship, the Calypso.
I'm back. I love the lyrics "seeking grace in every step he takes." John Denver was a worldwide treasure. John sang from his soul and touched all our hearts. We miss John. RIP John🪷✨️
There will never be someone who sing more gently Words about God's given beauty to the one they see and feel it . J. Denver told us what never should been forgotten , what humans never should to risk getting lost for ... what we've had to cry for when it's never been again , like it was ...
I adore John Denver and this is one of my favorite songs. Fifty years laster, it still brings tears to my eyes. "The Eagle and the Hawk" goes along with this one. It's super short but powerful. Annie's Song is gorgeous, as is "Rhymes and Reasons". You are both great and should have more than 50 subscribers! You really listen to the songs and have great insights and appreciation for all genres of music!
I'm so glad you like John. His music was everywhere when I was growing up. I wouldn't actually put him in the country genre though. Singer/songwriters were huge and kind of became their own genre. Good music should move you and take you out of yourself so, job done!
Hi Bro"s, great reaction, great song. John worked on that song for a few months, but couldn't find an intro for the song. Then one day the great Mike Taylor, one of the best acoustic guitar players in America was in John's band, as lead guitar player, anyway he showed John this fantastic guitar lick, and that is the opening part of the song. So it became the title of his then latest album, Rocky mountain high. Wonderful reaction guys, glad you enjoyed it. 👍
If you really want to hear his voice and songwriting ability, you should listen to "Sunshine On My Shoulders". He was an amazing talent that started out in Country music but grew far beyond that as an artist. Thanks for this one guys!
It thrills me that you guys appreciate John Denver so much. When I was in my 20's, nobody was bigger than him. There's no way to explain how loved he was. The day he died, I sobbed like a baby, then made my daughters, 12 & 13, sit down and listen to about every song he ever recorded. His pitch was perfect and clear, he enunciated beautifully, and he was a wonderful guitarist. His songs touched the heart in ways few people could. Try STARWOOD IN ASPEN next. His love for Colorado and nature in general are themes running through his best songs. "Talk to god and listen to the casual reply." Did anyone ever write a better line? You are doing such a great job on your channel.
Congrats from California, guys. John Denver has been a part of my playlists for years, and years, and years. This song is 3 years older than I am. It’s now 51 years old. RIP Forever, John Denver. Who was actually born Henry John Deutschendorf Jr.
Hey, you two...check this out. I was a teenager in the late 70's/early 80's. My music taste back then was so narrow you wouldn't believe it - listening only to a few bands like Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and stuff like that. My sister discovered John Denver was coming to the Civic Center for a concert. She got tickets and dragged me there. I really, really didn't want to go. His stuff was just WAY WAY WAY too lame. But I did go. He played the 12, 000 seat arena, in the round. Guess what happened? From the very first chord of the first song he totally owned the room. It was FANTASTIC. Not only did he win my respect and admiration, but he showed me how narrow-minded I was, and I've never forgotten that lesson. What a true, true artist. One more to check out? Annie's Song. It's a great one by John Denver.
John Denver came to beautiful Colorado, fell in love with it, changed his last name, and wrote this song. One of his best songs. If you haven't listened to "Annie's Song," you must. He wrote this song while riding a chairlift after having a huge fight with his wife. It's a beautiful song.
John Denvers voice is so pure it makes me emotional ❤ "Sunshine on my Shoulders" is a truly beautiful song and you guys should also check out John's rendition of "Let it be" its just sublime 🥰
Awesome reaction! Loved it! I was excited when I saw you were doing John Denver again… Just yesterday I was rewatching your reaction to take me home country roads! You would LOVE Annie’s song… it’s SUCH a beautiful song. Also Sunshine on my shoulders, Thank God I’m a country boy, and Calypso! To name a few. He’s definitely an incredible talent. Thank you guys! 50K soon! 😀⭐️
I'm so glad you discovered the wonderful music of John Denver. Some of my Denver favorites: "For Baby (for Bobbie)," "Looking for Space," "Matthew," "Goodbye Again," and "This Old Guitar." He also did a great cover of the John Prine tune "Paradise."
The first time I ever heard this song was when I was right after it was released in 1972. I was 16 years old and in Colorado on a ski trip. I had never been to the mountains before and like the subject in the song, I was changed by them. I have now spent many years living near the mountains in Washington State and skiing every chance I get. Every time I hear this song, that feeling comes back and I am 16 years old again.
That's exactly what I'm doing, making a list for a road trip with my son. The first of the two of us together. Sooo...lots of pics ,lots of good music, possibly a few tears and lots of fun and good conversation. God, I love that boy!
John Denver gives me goose bumps usually. He's an artist you really have to listen attentively to the lyrics bc u can actually see what he sings .. the most pictorial lyricist I've ever heard I believe. Thnx George & Patrick .. good to see y'all enjoy his music so much. I do too very much. Try "Sunshine On My Shoulders" next. Peace Out 🙂❣️🤘🏼☮️
I was waiting for you guys to get back to John Denver! So happy! (Someday, please listen to "This Old Guitar". No one ever reacts to it.... but it's so beautiful, especially when he tells the story at the beginning about losing his guitar.)
Such a great singer and songwriter, one the very best in the golden age of that genre in the 70's. I would strongly suggest you do my personal favorite by him, Annie's Song. It will transform you bros!
I love how much you both just let the music take you away!! 🥰 John Denver was so special! He was one of the first country to pop crossover artists. I had the pleasure of seeing him live in concert, many years ago. He performed just as you might imagine; very simply, humble and genuine! Even though it was a sold out concert, the moment he began to sing the audience was silent! It felt like he was singing to just me. Beautiful! 🥰❤
Another classic song from John Denver! It is the State song for the state of Colorado! If you like the song of his voice in nostalgia, "Sunshine on my Shoulders" is a great song with amazing accompaniment! "Leaving on a Jet Plane" is another important John Denver song to listen to as it launched his career when Peter, Paul, and Mary covered it! My favorite John Denver song is "Poems, Prayers, and Promises!"
I love your thoughts and reactions to this song, and to know how happy this song makes you. I truly understand the happiness and pride you feel when sharing incredible music; you want to bring joy to others. John Denver's incredible poetry & music has brought so much joy. I wish he was still alive to see how much of an impact he's had on us all. God bless and keep you both & those you love. 🙏🌷🌼🙏
So unique.... The voice and overall sound. Nothing like it. I was born in the mid 70's so my parents played John Denver all the time. Leaving on a Jet plane was always played when my dad would leave on business trips. This is a great song. Love your reactions. Great to hear from a couple European bro's who are intelligent and appreciate good/great music. This is definitely GREAT music.
John Denver wrote great songs and was a fantastic singer who sounded as good live as on the studio versions. He was a folk singer and died far too young. R.I.P. John.
I could listen to "Country Roads" 100 times as well 😊! I love John Denver songs! His voice is crystal clear! Heard him live in concert at the first Farm Aid in 1986! Soooo great! Love you two brothers and your reactions! You are choosing great music! Yes, this song is too good! On a scale of 1 to 10, it is an 11!! You might try reacting to "Annies Song" by John Denver. It is beautiful. And it was #1 on the Billboard charts for 2 weeks in July 1974.❤❤❤
John Denver was an icon and I adored him. Listened to him for many years, drunk and now many sober years - his music is now even more special. Thank you thank you for loving him!
I remember when this song was released. I bought the 45 record and played it a lot on my turntable, through my headphones. It's one of those songs that I still enjoy listening to. One of the greatest love songs is by John Denver, called "Annie's Song." You guys MUST react to that one. Also, the great "Calypso," which is a true-life song about the oceanic science vessel, the Calypso, captained by the world-famous explorer, Jacque Cousteau, who brought the ocean to the masses through his exciting, popular, tv specials. ❤✌
Helene here I went to school at CU in Boulder for a couple of years 1969/70….and never wanted to leave. I’m a mountain girl……the mountains are my spiritual, place. When this song was released in 1972, it brought all those experiences back to me…..Such a gorgeous song …about a truly beautiful place…..
I grew up in Colorado and I lived and worked in Aspen Colorado for a while in the 80s and John Denver lived there as well. I saw him filming a Christmas Special tv show in Aspen and got to hear him sing too! It was fun! He is truly missed. Very talented.
Love your reactions! John was not appreciated by a lot of people in a time period of rock and roll, but I always loved him. So glad you appreciate him for the amazing art that he was. I was privileged to see him live a couple of times. His voice was just as clear as on recordings. And when the band took a break, he stayed on stage and continued with just his guitar. What an amazing performer! He made every person there feel that he was singing just to them. RIP .. miss him so much.
John Denver takes you away, such a voice just so pure, he had several huge songs in the 70s, you guys would really dig Take me Home Country Roads, Annies Song, Calypso are some bangers
The play on words in these lyrics are beyond masterful. The crystal clearness of his voice is next to none. I really hope you'll do Annie's song from him next. You'll be both blown away and moved. One of the best love songs ever.
You young man are doing a wonderful job. I am so appreciative of the fact that you're taking the time to look back in time. If you look around today, everybody's doing the same thing. Looking the same sounding the same and as you notice in these songs from the 60s 70s, some of them from the 80s. Everybody had their own unique way of singing. They weren't copying each other. They were doing their own unick thing and and you just can't. You can't beat that, and yes, you kids missed out on the 70s, big time, so 70s was really quite a time 80s. He's a more of a time growing up in the 60s. I had to wear white gloves be dressed curtsee. You name it. I had to learn different. Things sewing knitting, embroidery. Cooking because that's how things were for women. I was raised by my grandmother who was born in 19 0 2 and my grandfather. Keep up the good work. Oh, and oh brother where art thou man of sorrow I don't know. I can't remember the name of the people's names. But that's a movie you should watch if you haven't already
I cry when I hear him. Such a talent.....gone way too soon.
We would sit around a campfire in the Smokey Mountains of North Carolina and sing this together......it's a spiritual thing and John Denver had a perfect voice
love it when Eastern Europeans and Russians experience this music for the first time, ..
I consider him a folk singer and he's the best
John Denver simply the best
Hiked the rockies sat by a clear blue mountain lake its so awesome and brings you in touch with your soul
John Denver is just amazing. 💯 Rocky Mountain high!
You would also love his song called, Calypso. Great song.
Calypso! Yes!
His voice is truly angelic 💖
Every time I hear his voice I just become very emotional can't explain why but he moves me to tears.
I am from Colorado and it makes me cry every single time, especially when work makes me have to live away for a while
Ditto. 😌💜
"he'd be a poorer man if he never saw an eagle fly..." , gets me every time. For people who enjoy nature and the beauty of the mountains, it's a lyric that really hits home.
It definitely got me this time.
John Denver is a musical Icon, his songs are timeless.
Bro's, you'll love his "Sunshine On My Shoulder", "Thank God I'm A Country Boy" and more!!! One of the purest voices you've ever heard, right?
Absolutely, great voice and great songs!😊😊
Sunshine on my goddamn shoulders John Denver lol
Don't forget Calypso 😁😁
@@Kazeemi2810 What about "Annie's Song"?

Me too, in 60, and I'm in love with Georgie. Hahaaa. Old, but not dead yet.

1959 here. I just love watching these young men’s reactions.❤️✨😁. I hope they react to Annie’s Song. It is my absolute favorite.
One of the greatest lines ever, "Seeking grace in every step he takes". We should all strive for that❤
Nobody could sing like John Denver.

Yep Annie`s song s a classic.
“Take me home country road” by Bruddah Iz is a magical version of John’s amazing song…gives it the country feel Hawaii-style.

I am 62 and a fan for live but i Love it when young Guys love his music with emotion.❤
John Denver's incredible poetry & music has brought so much
joy. I wish he was still alive to see how much of an impact he's had on us all.
God bless and keep you both & those you love. 🙏🌷🌼🙏
Just subscribed . That song was magic.
R.I.P. John.
My favorite song by John Denver, I remember the exact place in my life when I first heard it.😊
Brilliant performer....truly missed.
There is not one bad John Denver song. So devastated he died.........
He has such a comforting voice!!
"I'd Rather be a Cowboy" and "Wild Montana Skies" my favorites by John Denver.
His lyrics, his voice ❤ “ though he’d be a poorer man if he never saw an eagle fly’. I mean wow. Chills.
Definitely.
Somehow I only just discovered this song and I think it is the best song I've ever heard.
He can really make you feel the song.
I love your open ear for brilliant music!!
Gone way to soon. Loved hearing him in the 70's. RIp John. Peace from Northern Michigan
I played this both times I did a road trip to Colorado as soon as the Rockies came in sight I put this on the perfect song to arrive in Colorado
I grew up in Colorado and I lived and worked in Aspen Colorado for a while in the 80s and John Denver lived there as well. I saw him filming a Christmas Special tv show in Aspen and got to hear him sing too! It was fun! He is truly missed. Very talented.
My favorite of his is "Annie's Song", the melodies, and his voice and guitar. GOT to hear it!
RIP
.. miss him so much.
John Denver takes you away, such a voice just so pure, he had several huge songs in the 70s, you guys would really dig Take me Home Country Roads, Annies Song, Calypso are some bangers
Hi Gary, they've already reacted to 'Take Me Home Country Roads', it was a great reaction to a fab song!😊
Road trip music for sure. Love John Denver. 😍🙏🏽
Sunshine On My Shoulders is another amazing masterpiece that comes to mind
Prisoners and In The Grand Way are two of his best compositions, very well worth a listen.
