I just bought a hp usb-c/a universal dock g2 and it doesn't work. Have done everything you described and nothing worked. Frustrated and sad here :/
I have 2 LG Ultrafine 4k displays... with Thunderbolt connectors. What's the best way to connect 2 of those at the same time?
FWIW when I install the DisplayLink driver it claims no monitor is detected, even when I have one of these monitors driving off the DisplayPort port on the TS3 dock.
Need help with the actual setup...cords go where....please I have everything needed.....cannot get it to work
do we really need to use displaylink docs or we can use any HDMI hubs to connect to multiple monitors. i am unable to set multiple apps on different monitors. Every monitor is showing the same screen. is there any way i can set this correctly.
bro is there any lag in the display link output? like frameskips or frame drops on the display monitor? beacuse at the last part of your video the youtube playback seems to hame frame skips and lags
MineAnimators, I've used this setup for a few weeks now and it's pretty solid! I did not notice any lag or dropouts during use.
Will this setup work for the 2021 iMac 24"? I can only run one monitor, but would like to have two monitors plus the iMac
I have a Mac Studio. What a pain its being with my monitors. I have a iMac 2017 27in running OCLP to allow AirPlay to Mac which works ok but when I connect my 2 AOC 24in Monitors it only picks up 1 monitor. Ive tried my Anker USB C hub with a HDMI & extra USB C connection - doesnt work. Tried Anker with 1 Monitor connected HDMI and the other monitor connected to the HDMI on the Mac Studio but doesnt work. Any help would be amazing? Im looking to sell the iMac and get a 4K monitor but wondering what I will need to do for a 3/Multi Monitor setup with the Mac Studio
thank you so much, I was struggling to make it work since the day I made the update to big sur
The displaylink manager will just not recognize the station.. I have updated the firmware, I have tried using an USB hub to connect the station using the usb type b, nor of the things are working, I can see the dock in the sys info tho, but the displaylink manager not. Any idea?
Does it support audio out via display port or hdmi?
If I buy the Sonnet DisplayLink USB Type-A to Dual HDMI Adapter for m1 computers, and then run a type c to hdmi will it let me use the 2 display link and then the 1 free? That way I can have a total of 3 additional monitors? Please let me know 🤣
My Mac is recognizing both of the external displays, but it is acting as if the external displays are one display, so the two external displays are mirroring each other and my mac is the extended screen. I want to have the two external displays have an extended display, and not just mirror each other. When I go to arrangement under system displays, it is only showing two screens, while I would like to see three.
I installd the driver. I have two HDMI connected to two different dongles. Its not working. I gave it the privacy permissions. But when i launch it, it doesnt appear on teh screen.
Hi! Is this only available via Targus or can I use other docking stations like a Dell docking station? It's not working for me so far, even though I've followed your steps. Your help is appreciated! Also, great video!
You need to check if your dock support Display link technology in specs.
Hey I bought a hyper adapter which has 2 hdmi ports. I downloaded the DisplayLink software, enabled the record option in system preferences but I am still unable to use my second monitor. Can you please help me?
I was able to use multiple displays from the info provided in your video but it does not work when the laptop's lid is closed (clamshell mode). Have you found any work arounds for that?
Mike, I forgot to test this!!! I will have to take a look.
@@Mr.Macintosh please let us know!
Would this be a similar setup process to use dual monitors with the M1 Mac Mini?
For a Mac Mini you can run up to 6 monitors(with displaylink). It can natively run 2, one from HDMI and the other via USB-C connection.
@@Mr.Macintosh Should I go USB-C to HDMI?
Instead of a dock you can get an Asus MB168B Portable Monitor as your 2nd screen . Is Displaylink compatible and just needs a usb to usb c adapter . Need to download the Asus driver .
Hows the cpu usage on idle, aswell as while streaming netflix?
Ive heard DL uses cpu instead of gpu.
At 11:30 what do you mean by additional native? Does it mean 4 external and another one is laptop display (total of 5)? Or 5 external and 1 laptop display (total of 6). I’m considering the M1 either an Air or a Mini.
Macbook pro = Laptop screen + One Monitor
Mac Mini = 2 Monitors
The 4 displaylink monitors can be added for a total of 6 well 5 if you do not count the laptop monitor.
@@Mr.Macintosh thanks
@@Mr.Macintosh how are you getting 6? MB air only has 2 ports… so 2 startech dongles for each port…. So that is 4 monitors, 5 including laptop screen…. Lost here
Hi, I have a doubt. You connect your hub using USB port to a Mac's multiport adaptar? Then you connect your monitors using HDMI and DVI?
Emanuel, this model dock uses a USB-A plug. You can use any USB-C to USB-A dongle for this, in the example I just used an Apple MultiPort Adapter for the USB-A plug.
Nice video, the most informative I've seen so far. Any impact on the CPU/GPU that is noticeable?
Hey Eric, I've been using the setup for a few days now. I've noticed almost no performance hit to the system!
@@Mr.Macintosh No issues with the fan spooling up? My MBP 16 with i9 is working like a vacuum with external 4k display
I did all your steps and when i click on Display link manager, nothing pops up. I did add it to the systems screen recording privacy area as well. But its not launching for smoe reason. My monitors are attached to two HDMI ports.
What's the name of the Displaylink docking station?
I did everything you mentioned on your video and I still can't see my third monitor.
Does it matter if I have them on Landscape or Horizontal view?
I had to manually add "DisplayLink" to the Screen Recording Privacy as one of the options, but I won't work.
Hopefully you've seen this before and will be able to help.
Which displaylink dongle adapter or doc are you using hcaro70?
@@Mr.Macintosh Its the PureFix 6 in 1 UCB C Dual HDMI Hub Adapter w/Dual 4K HDMI 60W Power Delivery Charging & 3 USB 3.0 5 Gbps Data for 13" MacBook Air 2018-2020
I watch your video once more. Are you connecting both screens thru HDMI cables? Or are you using different cables/ports to connect both monitors?
Why does this not work with my m1 MacBook Pro?
Thank you. A very helpful and well explained video!!
Glad it was helpful Dank Chan!
Question -- I have a 2015 Macbook Pro so still on usb A, with 2 mini DP ports. Would I be able to use a usb C dock instead of getting a usb 3.0 type B powered dock?
For your 2015 you could use the one i have in the video for example and would not need the usb-c dongle! Those mini dp ports are also Thunderbolt ports! You could just get 2 mini display port dongles and run any monitor you would like. If you wanted to get a usb-c dock you MIGHT be able use something like this www.amazon.com/Yootech-Connector-Compatible-Chargers-Standard/dp/B087R1GZ1Q/ref=sr_1_14?dchild=1&keywords=usb-a+to+usb-c+adapter&qid=1611895231&sr=8-14
@@Mr.Macintosh Thanks so much -- you are the best! Looks like your video is the only one I can find to provide such comprehensive information on the subject.
I have a Mac mini 2020 the adapter plugable or startech 3.0 to hdmi.. would not wake up when I turn on the Mac, I need to click on displaylink app to wake the adapters .. Am I doing anything wrong, is it the adapters or displaylink issue? Please help!! Thank You!!
Can I install displaylink without a dock just to see the quality difference with my external 4K monitor?
@DUALSHOCKER you would need at least one DisplayLink dongle or dock to test out DL.
I have a M1 macbook pro that I am trying to connect to 2 4k monitors. I have watched your video, and have displaylink downloaded, and a docking station, and still having problems. What would you recommend?
Me too. Mr. Macintosh needss to respond to people who have issues with his suggestions.
What if I want to use the computer power of both Macs? I am trying to find a way to stream from one Mac and game from the other. Screen share doesn’t work because the picture quality and frame rate drops considerably.
Hello, your video was excellent and I have everything plugged in and installed, but it is still only extending to 1 monitor. I am using an Aukey 12-1 hub, site indicates it is DisplayLink friendly. Any thoughts on why the second monitor is not showing up in the arranger section (both external monitors are showing the same image)
I’m having the same issue.

thanks for the video, My setup doesnt seem to be working. each monitor works by itself but when I plug them both in only 1 pops up. using the macbook pro 2020. thanks if anyone can help me figure this out
I followed all the steps in the video and plugged in my two external monitors through an Anker docking station, but it shows "No DisplayLink-enabled display detected" and two monitors shown same content. Should I change a docking station? Can anyone help?
What is the cable you used to connect the dock to the computer?
The cable for this dock is a USB-A to USB-B USB 3.0
@@Mr.Macintosh Thanks. Would you happen to have a link to it on Amazon? All I’m seeing is 2.0 cables. Isn’t this a printer cable?
Thanks for this comprehensive info! Cheers
Can you do a video on setting one external monitor to portrait mode? I can't make it work. The display preferences app shows a picker for "standard, 90, 180, 270" degrees of rotation, but choosing anything other than "standard" fails, times out and then resets the display to landscape.
I've heard it's an issue with the M1 silicon, but not sure. Its frustrating as hell though.
EXTREMELY USEFUL. Thanks for the step by step. My dual monitors are up and running
Glad it helped Craig!!!
Does it affect performance?
@C P I went with the Mac Mac Mini instead! Glad I did too
Could you tell us what kind of HP monitors (both the same obviously) you have on your desk?
