    I am a novice with all this stuff. Thank you for doing such a great job walking us through this. The big missing piece for me is the physical set up and connection. I can see the wires and make an assumptions how all the bits go together. But what would be hugely helpful is to see you connect all the components together while explaining what each is. Just a thought to help the newbies like me.

      Adrian, I am working on more videos for new Mac users. I've realized that I have both new and advanced. So you will see some videos talking about how to install windows 10 on your apple silicon mac via open source tools. But other videos like this one where I try to put myself in a new users shoes. I think we take technology for granted times and some of the steps that might seem easy for some could trip up others. Thank you for your comments and stay tuned for more!

      @@Mr.Macintosh Can I ask another question which I hope you will answer in future videos. Do I need actual Displayport cables to add multiple displays to the M1 MacBook Air or does the Displayport software that I download work with HDMI cables. If I need specific cables, are there better cables? What if my monitor only handles HDMI? It seems like I am buy all there little bits and pieces and fitting them together to give me access to two monitors.

    I use a Displaylink Plug and Play with my M1 Air with 24" Lenovos. Works perfectly always. I can unplug the Mac and plug in a work PC, and it works. It's USB C, and takes up little space. I run my power through a Lention USB hub with passthrough power so I have USB ports.

    I've been using DisplayLink Manager via a Dell Universal Dock D6000 with my MacBook M1 for a couple of years now. I use my system for intensive audio editing over three screens including the MacBook, occasionally adding my iPad Pro (via Sidecar?). It's been a life saver and has worked flawlessly throughout. It even offers me a non standard resolution with my Benq EW3070. It's one of those things that works so reliably I never have to think about it. I can't recommend it highly enough. Although I do have to double check every MacOS release to see if they've introduced some new native screen management which will interfere with my DisplayLink set up. I always check your release notifications to be sure. It comes to something when I have to check that Apple haven't messed up a workaround for something they should have had working in the first place! 🙄😬 - btw thank you for all the great work you do to keep us and our MACs up and running. :-) x

      For a Mac Mini you can run up to 6 monitors(with displaylink). It can natively run 2, one from HDMI and the other via USB-C connection.

    At 11:30 what do you mean by additional native? Does it mean 4 external and another one is laptop display (total of 5)? Or 5 external and 1 laptop display (total of 6). I’m considering the M1 either an Air or a Mini.

    • @Mr.Macintosh
      @Mr.Macintosh  3 роки тому

      Macbook pro = Laptop screen + One Monitor
      Mac Mini = 2 Monitors
      The 4 displaylink monitors can be added for a total of 6 well 5 if you do not count the laptop monitor.

    • @Mr.Macintosh

      Emanuel, this model dock uses a USB-A plug. You can use any USB-C to USB-A dongle for this, in the example I just used an Apple MultiPort Adapter for the USB-A plug.

      For your 2015 you could use the one i have in the video for example and would not need the usb-c dongle! Those mini dp ports are also Thunderbolt ports! You could just get 2 mini display port dongles and run any monitor you would like. If you wanted to get a usb-c dock you MIGHT be able use something like this www.amazon.com/Yootech-Connector-Compatible-Chargers-Standard/dp/B087R1GZ1Q/ref=sr_1_14?dchild=1&keywords=usb-a+to+usb-c+adapter&qid=1611895231&sr=8-14

    Can you do a video on setting one external monitor to portrait mode? I can't make it work. The display preferences app shows a picker for "standard, 90, 180, 270" degrees of rotation, but choosing anything other than "standard" fails, times out and then resets the display to landscape.
    I've heard it's an issue with the M1 silicon, but not sure. Its frustrating as hell though.
