Lathkill Dale in Derbyshire - a short history

- This video is a short history of the beautiful Lathkill Dale in Derbyshire filmed with the DJI Phantom 4 and Smartphone.
This valley is only a few miles long, but packed into this space there is a fascinating historic and environmental story to tell - and I try to show as much of it as I can in 10 minutes - although there is enough to do a short series on all of it!
If you are interested in learning more about the mining impacts on the river levels here - please see this video 'saving the Lathkill'

Enjoyed several works in this geologically interesting area. The little river has a good population of wild brown trout.Limestone streams are some of our richest river ecology .
Fascinating industrial history
Per trout the Wye is well stocked through Monsal Dale.
Great short film and nostalgic for me......as I fished the upper part by the fishing lodge (where we used to stay and appears now in private hands) many times as a child. The crystal, blue, aquarium like nature of the pools and weirs was an unforgettable experience.....and the trout were prolific then and tricky too!
Your film is fairly recent and i can see that the course of the water and weirs are not as well maintained as they once were......I recall reading that the River had disappeared through a hole in the limestone strata for both water and fish were more abundant in my day (circa 1960).
I have just returned from Fishing the Wye at Rowsley (this week) the Peacock Hotel is still wonderful....and the start of the season is full of promise......and i too made a film of it some years ago: (no drone!)

Great place for a walk. Nice film.
Another great video Rob with a very interesting commentary.
During the gold session they were about to lay a railway to LD. Then they didn't.
During WW2 a Wellington came down just North of the road bridge at its southern end.
Back in my school days mid 1960's our geograpphy teacher told us to try and borrow a miners helmet and we went on a school trip to the start of the river Lathkill and potholed a good way down the cave where the river starts in winter. then we walked down the valley and explored lead mines which I believe are now blocked off. No Elf and safety when we where at school! Good old Jet Harris our teacher.
Great info & video! :-)
I'm surprised you haven't got more subs. A very interesting and well presented video. Also like your music choice.
Amazing to watch, well done
Great Video - we were there today. Why have you stopped publishing videos? do you have another channel?
I really enjoyed the journey through the valley Rob. Your presentation did credit to the ecology, history and beauty of the place. I'm happy to have found your channel. All the best. Mark
Great video with some excellent drone footage. It's been quite some time since I last visited Lathkill Dale. I must go back there soon. Subscribed!
Went back there yesterday for the first time since school (30 years ago!)
Never forgot how deep and clear the water was yet didn't know the location until I came across an image online.
Special place and your video was really interesting now I've seen for myself lots of the places shown.
Thanks.
Loved this video. It's a shame you don't seem to be making videos any more.
Imagine how beautiful it would be without mans intervention to extract lead etc, it would be free flowing and not in ponds and with more water.
So, four years on from this video has it been possible to keep the river flowing year round?
We were there today and it was bone dry in places, still an amazing to see though in all seasons whether flowing or dry
Commendable effort my friend.
Good to see some people some where who care for nature lost in oblivion.
Tonnes of love 💘 ❤️ ❤️ for

Thanks. Glad you enjoyed it.
