      Personally I wouldn't say men aren't labelled. If a man simply has an allegation against him, he's cancelled (or lucky if he manages to prove his own innocence). If you take the Johnny Depp situation, he's accused, that's publicised and his career takes a massive hit, while his ex publicly admitted to domestic abuse still has a career (is this because she is a woman?). Metoo spokesperson Asia Argento is accused of sexual misconduct without facing a similar judgement that accused men go through, and even when it was proven she lied, loses a single job. Even in many cases if a woman lies about an allegation, she gets to be anonymous while that man's life is left in ruins.

    • @ComedyGlor
      @ComedyGlor 3 роки тому +5

      @@dannyr2976 that has nothing to do with labels, or anything I was talking about for that matter. All women have to go through the threat of being labelled something if they express their views too much or if their views aren’t digestible enough. False accusations only occur 1-10% of the time. So if I were to talk about those cases, I’d be talking about the minority, that rarely happen. I’d much rather talk about the fact that when someone gets raped, the rapist is hardly ever convicted, or not given a sufficient sentence, so why don’t we talk about that instead? Only 1.7% of reported rapes are even prosecuted, and yet y’all wanna go on about false accusations all the time. Yeah it’s not good but it rarely happens so maybe only bring it up when it’s actually relevant or necessary, not when a woman is bringing up problems that she faces.

    • @dannyr2976
      @dannyr2976 3 роки тому

The fact that she defended herself so blatantly and unapologetically makes me think that she isn't a bitch on purpose. I don't think it was out of proportion. She basically said she is a diva in the interview just much nicer. She used nicer words like standing up for herself and having strong opinions. The attitude she had about "other people" kinda shows too that she acts self entitled.

      Whatever, it was a long time ago and I forgive her. Everybody says stupid things sometimes, but seeing how she's a celebrity, she has to be reminded of a mistake she made 7 years ago! Like... when is this ever going to end? For the record, I was saying her mistake wasn't as bad as everyone made it seem. Honestly, I agree with her. But was it necessary to put it out there? Probably not.
      I still don't think she's a diva though. Her relationship with the cast and crew always seemed genuine (apart from Shonda cuz that woman knows how to hold a grudge)... Again, you can't judge someone's character by an interview excerpt. Plus, most of the cast speaks fondly of her and say they miss her on the show. So... I chose to still like her.

    • @dannyr2976

      And men who aren't seen as strong are labelled weak, incels or expected to 'man up'. It's like the expression _"For every action, there is and opposite reaction..."_ so if woman are judged for being a certain way, men are judged for the opposite. Case in point the Johnny Depp/Amber Heard situation.
      Depp was judged on a ruling based on story written on her word, that f**ked him up big time, yet when audio of her wrongdoing was leaked, there was no rush to judgement, no immediate cancellation, even though she has previous form. 'Metoo' advocate Asia Argento accused, said she was innocent, lied and not cancelled, only two examples I know, but don't want to create a whole list for the sake of the comment section.
      The point is that women may be labelled is some instances, but so are men, case in point Edward Norton has such a bad rap in Hollywood to the point he rarely makes movies in tinsel town, Bruce Willis in the latter end of his career had been labelled 'difficult' by MANY he's worked with and his punishment.... well just look at the calibre of movies he stars in the last decade. Men are judged in different ways, from being completely emasculated and take it, to being responsible for all that's wrong with the world.

Also, it may have been something that didn't stand out to her as strongly until she had to watch the film in full and see the full impact of it, and cringe at herself. I personally wouldn't have taken the role. I look at it as her possibly being driven by wanting the role, to get more fame and opportunities etc (because she was younger and more ego driven, caring about money and status etc) and then with more life experience under her belt, she had regrets about the part she played. Roles for women were definitely much more limited and sexist around that time, with less character development etc. She didn't have the wisdom or integrity when she took the role, agreed. But she is trying to make positive change now and speak on these issues. That looks like someone who is ltrying to learn and grow to me.

You can be kind and patient and understanding and still be labeled professional. There are actors who think that just because they've been in a lot of movies they can change the script, demand this and demand that, and if they don't get what they want then they threaten to quit. If I was a director and some actor did that to me, I'd be like, ".... Okay. Quit then. That's what I have extras for. There are plenty of people on this set that would kill for your part." When someone in the entertainment industry gets labeled difficult to work with, question what you're being told. This is an industry where powerful men can make or break you. Often they will leverage their power into getting these women to do things they don't want to do, under the ultimatum that if they refuse, they will "never work in this town again." One of the ways these people, virtually always young and attractive women, get blacklisted from producers' phone books is they all of a sudden get a reputation for being a diva.

There were countless times where her disrespect was epic. Its not cool to bag a movie, in fact two movies you signed on for (and lets not forget about her conduct on Grey's Anatomy). She read the scripts and knew what they were about, then acted them out accordingly, then during promotion she talks about how demeaning they were to women... yet she keeps choosing roles in that very genre. What we have here is an unapologetic Diva trying to justify her diva-ness. Sure the audience claps, they clap at anything these days, bring in the people she worked with, the producers that hired her as an actress and trusted that she had the movies best interest at heart and would reflect this during promo.. they'll slaughter her phony justification in seconds

      ... Hmm, I didn't get that impression at all. In regards to the internet comment, she seemed to infer that her opinions were framed in the moment without much thought as to how quickly they could be (and were) extrapolated on, taken out of context or otherwise maligned against her in a public smear campaign before she could react or clarify herself. She wasn't blaming the internet for spreading her malicious comments, she was stating the fact that the rumor mill churns out conjecture faster than the speed of light, much too quickly to head off a misunderstanding. In that case, it can become a weapon of mass destruction to someone's reputation.
      I thought she did sound humble but also confident in herself when she remarked that she had learned (the hard way) that there was a graceful way to voice her opinions or objections but that she wouldn't apologize for standing by her values. Every actor and actress has spoken about how the industry tends to exploit them. Hollywood can be as dirty as Wall Street. And I think that Katherine refused to comply with a few morally-compromising requests, which probably sparked the first rumor of her difficulty as an employee.

      haha, you sound like Katherine. You make some fair comments, I listened to what Judd Apatow and Seth Rogen said on Howard Stern, Judd especially seemed disappointed with her comments about his movie, it appeared two faced. Katherine is a smart girl, whatever comes out of her mouth comes out with clarity and precision as we see in this interview.

      I'll take that as a compliment, thank you.
      I don't listen to Howard Stern but I do know that Rogen is known for making controversial and opinionated comments about movies, himself. So he's a hypocrite to take issue with Katherine for doing the same. If he required positive publicity for the movie, he should have included a provision in the contract. But at the end of the day, bad publicity is just as effective as good publicity. There have been a number of actors who have done the same. I remember Robert Pattinson harshly criticizing 'Twilight' despite owing his fame and fortune to the franchise.
      Rogen also failed to understand the bigger picture. Katherine's comment was an indirect attempt to address the type-casting and misogyny in Hollywood. She was persistently being type-casted into romantic comedy roles that presented women as caricatures rather than 3-dimensional characters. On the surface, her comment was about Rogen's movie but she was jumping onto the feminist bandwagon like many other actresses at the time who were sick of the sexism.
      Rogen commented that her succeeding movie was of the same caliber, conveniently ignoring the fact that she was already contracted for that movie before commenting on Rogens'. But even if she wasn't, she was an A-list actress in high demand, and they usually take the movies that pay well and keep them relevant at the box office, regardless of personal taste. It's dangerous to break away from your genre once you've established your name and audience within that demographic. The same rules apply to novelists. Most novelists have to use pseudonyms once they leave a genre because they risk losing reader and "brand" loyalty by producing material they don't want.
      Anyway, there's more to it than simply bad-mouthing a movie. There's underlying politics involved. Or so that's my very uninformed take on it.
      Sorry so verbose and thanks for taking the time to reply. :)

    I enjoy her acting, and she does have a right to stick up for herself. Idk i think people just look for any excuse to judge others.

    I feel Izzy started out as the sweetest character in Grey's anatomy but over seasons they just turned her into a psychopath. She was my most favourite in season 1 and least fav later on. Writers and creators of the show ruined her character.
