It is going to run, you are not the type of guy to give up on it.
I had the 05 X package. Awesome machines. The DS has a dry sump oil system. The oil tank is in behind and just below the headlight. I believe that oil line you were confused about goes to the under side of the oil tank.

So why did some people say 2 strokes are harder to work on and some say 4 strokes are hard to work on
@@fatfightingbros9639 id say 2 strokes and 4 strokes are both easy to work on. Then again i rebuild huge ship engines for a living.
@2vintage , I have a DS650 I aquired as a basket case. Was in a severe accident. It also had no spark . You are likely correct about your ground. Look around where the rear subframe bolts to the frame (bottom part) There is a spot where the grounds connect together. The battery mounts in back on subframe. So battery ground connects to subframe. There should be a ground wire that connects the subframe to the frame and frame to engine. Your issue might be that you didnt have the engine bolted in. Thats my guess. Have to have good ground from engine to battery. Best bet is to connect a large wire from a bolt on engine to the ground connection at subframe. Sounds like everything is working like it should. The ac voltage from stator will increase with rpm. Its not low just turning too slow.

My last Bombardier ate 3 cdi’s. After i put the 3rd one on I sold it. If battery voltage got too low from sitting and you went to start it the cdi popped. Sticking with yamahas now haha

Hey Joe pull all your connectors apart and make sure the pins are not bent or pulled up through the plug .(people tend to pull plugs apart by the wires and end up pulling the pins back)👍

did you have the ground for the starter grounded when testing spark? most quads have starter grounds, that one may not but ,most do.

Is there a special tool to loosen the oil bleeder inside the oil filter housing? It’s larger than a #10 standard screw driver and extremely tight and I don’t want to damage the slot.
have similar issues with a ktm lc4 changed the cdi at great expense still no continuity through the harness. so many stupid parts on modern 4 strokes that prevent start up just frustrate me to death trying to work out electrical issues on them😤
Can you tell me where your rpm wires are connected too? I know ones to the coils

I have a four wheeler that I took mudding And then I did an oil change and whenever I give it a lot of gas doesn’t want to Rêve Up it stays running so I don’t think it’s the carburetor and I took it down the road full throttle and it has barely any power do you have any idea of what may have happened
Do you not have to ground both the spark plugs at the same time to get spark

Hello how r u I have a ds650 2005 I put a new carburetor runs in idle but push the gas its skips what can be the problem

What I've learned about wiring small engines. If you can't find it, replace the pulse "box". Almost always works unless a wire is split.
Hopefully even if has issues you can sort them out. Mine was so powerful it would about rip u off the seat and was scary fast. Should eat up ur 660 raptor np. Good luck with ur fix

Yo so your from my area and my budget for quads n bikes isn’t too high and I’d like to pick up a project quad/bike, but I stg every good deal I see on marketplace ends up on YOUR UA-cam CHANNEL, how many bikes and quads do u have now? Is it enough yet?
Do these bikes have a choke they have to I thought being their carbureted right? I can’t find mine can someone give me some info on this?
Sounds like a bad stator.. or cdi.. if coil test good? And pick up is working testing good just needs cut and re-soldered. Doesn't it need a battery?
Yes it does need a battery. It will not run without a good battery connected. Some will. Ds650 will not. Wont have spark without engine bolted in either. My guess is once he gets it put back together there will be spark.
How come you didn’t put the chain guide in? I think I missed that part

Did you test voltage from the stator by grounding one of the probes from the multimeter if you did you got a false reading on the ac current i had a similar situation with mine until I found the test procedure and found out it was a bad regulator rectifier but if it is a bad stator they are about 80 bucks on ebay
Also the cam chain tensioner is a hydraulic controlled tensioner meaning it uses oil pressure to tension the chain not like a spring chain tensioner
I would check all of your safety circuits or bypass them to see if you can get spark. I few places I would look:
Throttle safety - some atvs need a 1/16' play in the throttle - one way to test this is slightly hold down on the throttle and then test for spark.
Key Switch
Run Switch
Ignition Coil
Any other coils in the ignition circuit
Fuses (but you already check those)
Test resistances at your ground. Should be very low.

Your doing an amazing job with all these beasts! To bad your clear acroos the country, we could do some good business together. Ive got another 10 bikes and quads, to pick up and bring in some salvage some not to terrible bad. A couple old Artic Cats that i don't really want to mess with but im sure i will, once Brian gets back from MMI, Im gonna let him pick a few to fix up. Im sure he'll want the Kx's and RM's from the early to mid 80's. Found an ATK, Thats gonna be fun, missing some critical components. But we may have them in back.
Yo bro I got 3 of these, just letting you know that the tensioner is hydraulic doesn’t tighten until the the motors running.

Hey man about a year ago I crashed my raptor660 its been sitting and I have no time too figure the issue out im a new dad im 22 too a 1 year old its doing the same thing I get no spark it sat for a little while and wouldn't start up I just truly need help from someone out there any tips I truly want too ride again
Make a video about it. Better advice is given when they can see, and hear, the issue. Good luck

Get some feeler gauges to check distance between stator and pickup wires. U said its supposed to be .030 thou of a inch.
Edit: would it not be more precise to locate TDC with a dial indicator.
Make sure ur battery is good I had a 650 ds n itd run for a bit without battery but ones it died it would loose fire until the battery was charged fully again
Yeah mine was like that it would sound horrible when bump started from a dead battery. But once a new battery was put in it would go back to sounding the way it’s suppose to sound
To time that engine there is a bolt that you have to remove that on the underneath side of the engine you'll need to grind a bolt to a point and install it threw the case into the crankshaft the crankshaft shaft has a self centering v cut into the crank that holds the crank solid
You should do a small garage build remodel. Insolate then that little heater will warm a greater area in there not just 6 or 8 feet in front of it
Dotn forget that corrugated washer for the thermostat, you will need that
Don’t forget to put those metal triangles in front of the motor they’re motor mounts.

Thought a standard atv stator should be putting out 14-18volts. You said 4 volts, id check that

Going to go look at a 87 yamaha warrior tomorrow. Running driving, plastic is good. Lights even work. Guys asking 600. Looking to pick it up for 500. The good buys are out there in my state, just have to be patient. Probably going to sell my 98 500 scrambler for around 1200 in a month or two.

This guy got confused over a 3 piece cam chain tensioner and you think people should pay him to work on their stuff. And only positive comments are allowed? What is this a safe space? Lol
I don't give a fuck if your a rocket scientist. I don't need to here about all your credentials. All am saying is for someone who is farely young he's on a good path. Life is a learning experience meaning we are always learning no matter how old or how wise.
That voltage signal part is called the trigger
I know sometimes low or no oil pressure can cause spark issues.
Look for a polaris outlaw or preditor build
If you dont have a lid for the air box you need to modify the carb slide. If not it will run like crap and probably ruin the starter sprag by backfiring. Ask me how i know. If needed i can give you more info on modification. It's very simple.
It’s probably the cdi or regulator I used to have one of these but lost my ds 650 and Yamaha Warrior 350 in a fire last month
I got a 03 raptor 660 SE for 1000. Big bored, modified intake. Everything is just balls to the wall maxed. I just needed to buy a swing arm and axle and it’s a beast

Just a question wouldn't it be easier just to pull the motor and put it on a workbench instead of working off the ground
This engine is pretty heavy and just barely fits in the frame. That's why I'm not taking it out.
A Pneumatic lift would be awesome
if all else fails you should swap a 250 2t motor into it
It’s way too heavy for a 250 2t engine. Those DS quads are tanks.

Ive never worked on a can-am quad before but im 99% sure there should be a spring on that cam chain tensioner. My guess is someone meesed with the engine, timed it correctly but failed to put the spring back on the tensioner. This made the engine jump time and valves hit piston. No one who has built engines before would think that tensioner is complete as you have it.
Its a hydraulic tensioner. No spring
