I have a 2005 a 2003 and a 2001 and they all have gone over 80 mph. It all depends on the sprocket combination you use and how well the motor is tuned.
Just found one been sitting in a heated garage In Michigan for like 16yrs, all original Baja. Black and orange. Beautiful. And no the X package wasn’t anything the Baja gives u the beadlocks, aluminum bumpers and upgraded shox , the X was just a decal on top of the baja
Nice you don’t see to many of these things anymore! I ended up selling this one, but I did pick up another one as a project. It’s missing wheels and tires, and the rear axle.
It's heavy and a little scarry crossing it up sliding sideways because of it but it truly is the best ride confertable controllable predictable and has all the power bike was build for thor
I had a 2002 ds650 baja and I geared the front sprocket down a bit and when it was in high gear the tachometer would read 7500 at 75 mph. 7000 was 70 mph etc. Before I geared it down I’m pretty sure it would do 80 mph. My brother had an arctic cat 650 h1 and he said to me once “how come your 650 is so much faster than my 650”. Haha.
I bought an 04 new and it topped out at just about 80mph at the rev limiter. Either your phone speed is way off or your clutch may be slipping. This machine is big and heavy, but I loved it because it was very stable at high speeds and rode like a Cadilac. Suspension is amazing! Stock it will beat both a Raptor and YFZ450 every time...
I did sell mine… I modded it some and loved it, but it sat for a year without being ridden, soo I felt someone needed it more than I did at the time. I’d love to have it back now…🤦🏻♂️

I got a 2002 bombardier quest 650 and im needing some parts like the startor gear cover and the gear in-between the starter and the cover any recommendations
Just picked one of these up 2005 with a Mikuni carb what are some maintenance items I should look at besides the usual oil change, spark plug and battery? What are some cool mods that you've done or thought about doing?
I haven’t had any issues with My machine other than it started starting hard and it ended up being the valves tightened up in me. There is no adjustment other than changing out shims in the valve train. Besides that just the usual maintenance items as you mentioned should be good. My machine was pretty much stock.
The only sport ATV I know of that gained weight weighing in at 460 lb in 2000 and 484 lb in 2006 which is roughly a hundred pounds heavier than the Raptor 700.A big old 1/4 ton chunk and no reverse.
It is a very big heavy atv that really should have reverse.. it’s still fun but a Raptor is a lot more fun and way better for trail riding due to the reverse.
@@rockspowersports I bought a new ds650 in 2004 here in Ohio from a place called Championship Motorsports. The dealer told me they just did not sell well because they were really intended for sand dunes riding where you weren't likely to need a reverse gear-hence the "DS" designation . I will say they are the most comfortable ATV I've ever ridden 2x2 or 4x4.But man, after coming to a number of dead Falls across the trail in the woods and having to get off that Beast and pick that rear end up and swing it around 180 degrees I said enough is enough and sold it after owning it just a couple years.
@@livingroompickersclub6358 Yes I’m sure out in the desert where they were designed for they would be fine. I sold this one in the video but I did pick up a project DS650 Baja I’m trying to fix up.
What elevation you at?? I had a new 2002 Ds650Baja that had a rpm limit of 7800 they were 300 more rpm then the plain DS anyhow mine stock new did 78/79?? Mph downhill I caught 81mph and it cut out because of rpm limiter kicked in hard. It’s either yours is geared down two teeth up front or your GPS is off 😆
@Aidan Reuter I’ve heard that from a few people. Do you have any experience with them? I sold this one but I do have another one I’m going to be building.
Something is not right with that thing...it should accelerate way faster. Sounds like it has half the power as it should. You can even watch other videos for comparison...
@Shaun Seibles Yes mine did get hot on the right side due to the exhaust. I’ve heard aftermarket systems are alittle cooler as long as there jetted properly.
Just bought one of these. It was in a garage for 13 years and is in mint condition. Such an awesome machine
Nice find! They are very fun machines.
Very popular with the dakar rallies and the baja races back in the day remember them talking about these in the old dirt wheels mag.

Could you show us the detail, how did you install or adapt the front fenders of your ATV please?
