Really liked April. I love how she wasn't trying to belittle Andrew's mom's carrot cake and actually respected that he thinks his mom's cake is the best.

So I've only just now realized they don't actually film the car scenes between restaurants, which makes sense, but I never stopped to think about it.
But why if they sit next to each other while eating
lia francis I think the restaurant scenes were filmed before COVID distancing guidelines, but the car scenes were filmed after so they distanced for those
@@liafrancis5240 Under normal circumstances it makes sense not to film between restaurants because if they really do visit all three in one day, then odds are you wouldn't have time to film something with multiple takes over & over again. Meanwhile if they're visiting the restaurants on different days, which seems very likely considering they probably spend at least a couple hours at each location filming food being prepped, interviewing, trying food, etc. then filming on your way to location is also a bit silly. Just like movies film out of sequence it'd be most efficient to film all the car scenes at once while driving in a circle. As for right now they probably filmed all the restaurants & then had plans to film the bits in between later, but then the pandemic hit. Hence why you can see palm trees outside while they're in the car despite "being in Detroit in the winter."

I can get a few pounds of farm grown carrots for $5... A single $5 carrot is extremely expensive
@@weirdal3333 you say 'farm grown carrots' as if there carrots from anywhere else. They aren't manufacturing them in a lab or have a star trek replicator in the back.
Like all ingredients, there are different types of carrots that range from the $5 for a big bag of carrots to fancy up to specially grown ones that cost like $10 each (this is a thing) because of the care and attention to detail in growing them.
I always love it when I see people find out that Bugs Bunny's love of carrots has nothing to do with the diet of real rabbits and is; in fact, a long forgotten Clark Gable reference.
I have a rabbit, and it’s surprising how many people don’t know that their diet should be 80-90% hay! Carrots are a rare treat 😂

Danielle M Hall Haha, no judgement! Hay is basically grass, just dried. They for sure can have fresh grass, as long as it hasn’t been treated with weed killer etc. Some rabbits can get dodgy poops with too much fresh grass though, believe it or not 😂

@@uzumakirakku that is not really the reason. They only have 1 sponsored car and they don't fly it in with them for shoots so what likely happens is for this season they shoot they actual content first then fly back to hq to shoot the car scenes.

I kinda wanna try making that carrot steak. The process seemed pretty straightforward, if a bit painstaking.
You should go for it. I tried it today and the result was quite nice. I did not have really large carrots so I had to build up to the desired height. When I make this again I’ll shop specifically for larger carrots. Rolling was a PITA, but after a couple of do-over attempts I got something that worked. After that it was just basting in a cast iron pan.

So happy to see Detroit featured! I have been a huge fan of this show for years, and it was such a delightful surprise to see this episode based in our fantastic city filled with so much history (and great food!). There are some unbelievable carrot dishes in the surrounding areas that I would have loved to see featured (Public House in Ferndale - BBQ Carrots are out of this world!), but so glad that Detroit was well represented through these 3 great restaurants. Please do come back to the city (when it's safe) and feature something that is a bit more regionally specific - you have so many fans here who can give you great restaurant suggestions
The single-ingredient episodes are some of my favorites. I really loved the egg & fish ones - and now this carrot one - because the viewer genuinely has no idea what dish they are going to see. With the episodes on burgers, cakes, or coffee, you generally know you're going to see three of one dish done different ways, but with carrots, we got a carrot cake, a carrot hot dog, and a carrot steak! Loved it.

Honestly you do it right it tastes REALLY good. Just gotta do it on high heat so you’ll get the surface char and a little softening and heated through while still crunchy. Good stuff.
He also roasted a restaurant who gave him HALF his expensive ass cake. Which reminds me of this when she gave them HALF of the carrot steak. We saw how big it was before she cut it 😑
