I remove epoxy by wrapping paper towels around the cup and saturating it with acetone, then wrap aluminum foil around it. Let it sit for about 30 minutes. All the paint, epoxy and vinyl will rub right off. Give it a try
Missy Lane I have tried it numerous times and it is way easier for me to just heat and peel. The acetone is a total stinker for me
She is too impatient for all that...Lol. (I am too. I want it done & I want it done right now. Hahaha)
I’m gonna try this, one of my customers changed their minds and now wants something different..... so I have to begin again
I might try this method I only have 1 layer of epoxy and that was for sticking the glitter on so this might work for me.
Yeah, that's what I do. This way is asking for an injury. I sliced my finger with an exacto knife in college and ended up with 2 stitches. That is not happening again.
I'm just learning and have spent many hours watching how to make beautiful tumblers and now I am watching how to fix mistakes on beautiful tumblers. Thank you so much. I am getting a well rounded education before I start out.
This is so helpful because sometimes I end up making a cup and I don’t like it and want to start over. This is a quick way to do it without losing any money or too much material!
Glad to see someone else knows this method. I came across doing this same thing after seeing how much work it is for everyone else on UA-cam. I don't do my own videos or I would've posted it too. So much easier! Thank you.
I’m so thankful for this video! I was very nervous getting started on this task but with your tips it was done and completely off in 20 minutes!!! Love your videos!
Let me start by saying that I truly appreciate you sharing your skill, tips, and tricks. Whenever I have a question or want to know how to do something on my cups I dont even bother with google I go straight to your social media lol because I can usually find my answer. Ok so back to my reason for this comment... I recently had a 5 cup order cancelled and I was thinking there had to be easier way for me to do it since I do most of my work out in the garage (except for the drying and curing) and it's been freezing cold out so my hands were popsicles which made it even more tedious. So I thought what if I did the same thing but instead of the torch I use hot water to soften the epoxy and it worked like magic and hands weren't frozen stiff!! Some people may already know that this works really well but I thought I'd share for those of us who hate to strip cups. Heres what I did>>>>>>>> I put the cup in pretty hot water so you should use rubber gloves... let it soak for a minute or 2, then I took my razor and broke the seal all around the rim, cut length wise down the cup and on the bottom, let it soak another minute or so, and then took my razor to help begin to lift the epoxy up and then I used my fingers to peel it off...it comes off in nice big chunks where you cut it and the glitter and glue also came off with it and what little bit of glitter that was left on the cup came right off with a quick rinse. The paint stayed on of course (i just paint over it) but the hard annoying part was done in about 5 min. Hope this helps
I love love love the no nonsense small talk. Also love how fast you talk and work. Thank you!
Thank you so much for showcasing this method I was able to strip my cup in a matter of minutes!!! It literally peels off like you've said and shown in this video and I had 4-5 layers of epoxy that just came off like butter. I've used the paper towel with foil and acetone method but that didn't work too well for me. As horrible as it is to already have to strip a cup, you've turned my struggles around for me. Thank you so much!!!
Thank you so much! This was so educational. It saves me from throwing away cups.
I watched you make that cup and I didn’t even notice it was misspelled. It’s good to know I can strip a cup of I make a mistake, I have one right now that needs to be stripped. Thanks.
I watch this cup in progress and it was so beautiful.
Thank you so very much for this I can't use Acetone like everyone recommends because I have 2 small children a small children that like to get into everything and this method helps me out tremendously❣️🥰🥰🥰
Game changer, I've never stripped a tumbler before because I couldn't get the acetone method to work. I stripped a tumbler while watching your video.
Thank you so much for this video. I am actually doing stainless steel epoxy pens and I messed up a name. This looks so much easier than the way that I had planned out and now I have way to redo another pen that I didn't like the outcome of!
I’m so glad you demoed that,I have a cup to strip, Thank you
I’m about to start buying supplies for epoxy cups. Glad to know how to fix my oops cups
Thanks!!! It worked like a charm!
Just the lesson I was looking for. Thank you so much!!!
that was a really beautiful cup. rim looked like a transluescent stone...gorgeous! and the finish was glasslike...I hope I can get there one day...
donna
Just started doing tumblers, messed up the first one! Tjanks for such a great tutorial!
Me too. Using my tumbler, because I need practice. Messed up and didn't want to throw it away.
So glad you did this... (sad that you had to though)... It made me nervous but it is not as bad as I thought it would be. Thank you!
Thank you. Off to try to strip a cup 😎
God bless you!!!!! I saved my cup!
Thank you for this video. I was told the Acetone so went and bought a gallon lol. This seems much faster.
Thank you for doing this video! I threw a personalized cup away because I didn't think I could do anything about it.
That's what I'm trying to avoid doing. Just received a personalized tumbler that wasn't worded right & the replacement was even worse. Come to find out, the owner of the Etsy based business was hospitalized and asked her sister, who's still in training, to help her make my replacement tumbler. Something told me to look & see if I can just strip them instead of throwing them out. I'm grateful to see that there's hope. I planned to only use them at home, if it couldn't be done. I couldn't dream of throwing away money like that. These tumblers are expensive.
Hello. I love your videos, thank you for caring about us. I just started this art form and followed your beginner instructions to the letter....
well, I thought did. 😕
Made a great woodgrain and water slide which I painted.....fist coat of epoxy....cured with many awkward areas where it seemed to pull away from cup. So I sanded etc and applied another coat....same outcome but worse! I can now start over but would like to know what I did wrong first!! Lol
Repeat the good not the bad!!! 😂
Thank you!! Mimi D.
I use a hand blade scraper to strip seems to go faster...love your videos..I always learn something new
Deedee Hills ooohhh I hadn’t even thought of that!! That would definitely be a great tool for this!
Thank you so much. I was making my first beautiful cup one I was proud of and i let the epoxy get too hot so it would not move on the cup and got super sticky now I need to start over I was almost finished after 3 days 😢 now I start over
Your tutorial gave me an idea to remove without a heat gun or gallons of acetone. Because you said the cups shouldn't be cleaned in the dishwasher, I got the Idea to remove the epoxy by placing the cup in hot water, just below boiling point. Came of fairly easy, actually seemed easier than what I seen here. I forgot to score it, I just started scraping, some parts just peeled off. I did have to put it back in the water a couple of times. This was a 20oz cup, it didn't have vinyl only tons of glitter, LOL, it took maybe 15 min tops to get most of it off and that's counting the 2 times I placed it back in the water. Now I have minimal sanding that I can do by hand. =-) Thanks for the ideas.
Please don't do this inside your house on the stove. go outside in a well ventilated area. the epoxy emits vapors when heated and you don'y want that in your house'
You could use a silicone mat to hold the cup so it is not too hot on your hands
Thank you so much for showing me how to strip my 1st cup. It came out so bad, but I guess you have to learn some time. I will watch beginner video's you have to try again. Thank you :)
Love on that you are a life saver.
wow, that made me sad to see that beautiful cup stripped! Glad you showed us how to do it, hope I never have to though.
Looks fast for sure but I do like the ease of setting in acetone and going and not dealing with the fumes. This is great info though when I need a cup quick !
Thank You for sharing I messed up my first tumblers
that was painful, all of your hard work just scraped away! but thanks for the tutorial, good to know info!
Just put it in a ziplock bag, wrapped in a paper towel and pour a little acetone. I know it takes longer but much safer method than potentially inhaling those fumes. I do love the scoring idea though!
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
omg after watching this I just decided buy a new tumbler T_T great video tho!!!
I like using a window sticker razor. it gives me a wide width with a handle to scrape. This is the most satisfying method I have found. lol
Thank you for that great video
Thank you for this!! I just successfully stripped my first cup and it only took me about 20min from start to finish!! Longest part was actually cleaning the base paint off the cup! The epoxy came off in 5min. ❤️
very good went you save one cup is money in you packed and no taking to much time
Looks like a ton of muscle work. But I wanna know which is better this method or the acetone and foil ??
Hello, I know this is a long time ago. But Im just getting into crafting and happened upon your youtube channel. I'm learning loads from your tutorials. Thank you so much. Can you use this method to strip epoxied cups that also have glitter? Appreciate all that you do. Blessings.
Can I take the only the last coat of,epoxy off? Saving the paint, and the glitter? Doing milky way my husband turned the ait conditioner on and I now have ridges!!
I'd def add heat protective gloves!! :-)
Jessica Craftings I know right!? I cringed kept thinking she’s gonna fry her fingers off!
You should try oven cleaner for the bottom coat after you get the epoxy top. Spray it on set it aside and go back later wipe clean.
Good job dripping it
Stripping cup thx
Can you use a sander instead of heating and scraping?
If the heat effects the integrity of the cup, can you still re use the cup?
Thank you
I came across this. Took 2 cups that needed to be stripped. One I used the torch and when I came across to the next one with Texas heat I didn't need the torch it peeled right off
Amazing 😉😉😉😉
Are there any other tips for it the epoxy stays tacky? I’ve only made a few cups now all others turned out great but today had one I couldn’t get to dry
thank you
I just learned this by mistake! Found this video trying to find out what made my cured epoxy peel off my tumbler 😭
Can I apply a 2nd coat of epoxy while the 1st coat is still tacky? Thank you, and just love watching your work...
no, you want to wait until the first coat of epoxy gets hard, this is to ensure you have mixed it properly and it will cure right, putting over tacky epoxy that is not mixed correctly will remain toxic and is not safe to use.
Maybe if you had heat resistant gloves, you could score it, then pop it in the oven for a few minutes at a high heat, then peel everything off?
Thank you for the tutorial on how to fix mistakes! I can’t wait to get started on cup projects. (Just gotta wait for payday, lol. Hitting the dollar store and the hardware store!)
Thanks Shelli, it was more a question then a tip. Glad to know that it would be a horrible idea to put in the oven!😊
Can you take paper towels and foil and wrap it with the paper towels soak the up with acetone and wrap them in foil let it sit overnight and it will all come off or does that only work on glitter cups
It works on anything with epoxy. I just stripped a finished fabric cup. Epoxy came right off & then could peel the fabric off.
Ty..
What's a easy way to remove a layer of spray paint?? It's epoxyed underneath I'm just not happy with the paint color
UGH! I just made the most beautiful cup and when I was cleaning it up it 100% ruined my alcohol inks 😫😫😫 and I’m not a patient person lol... thanks so much for this !
Thank you for sharing ....be careful using your torch close to the acetone.
Ceci B I have fire extinguishers everywhere!! LOL
Can you do a video on how to get air babbles out of the epoxy
Is the acetone like nail polish remover with 100% acetone or is it something else?
yes, 100% acetone, my DT actually has it in the nails dept.
So sad to see this cup stripped! When I watched the tutorial I figured there was a reason you spelled it that way. I also noticed there wasn’t a dot above the “i” in tipsy like the “i” in vineyard. :)
I know you used a torch, but can you use a heat gun as well to strip it?
yes, it takes a bit longer but same process
love your cup..love your videos..but please be careful with open flame that near Acetone.Flash fires are no fun
“My Soul On Fire” UA-cam has a much easier way!
Hi I am a new subscriber I don’t know if you answered back or not but maybe somebody can help me I was told that you can pour resin into glass and it will not stick well now my resin is now stuck to the glass and I don’t know how to take the glass off and it is a big chunk of resin that I pour it into does anyone have any suggestions how I can remove the glass from my resin piece without ruining the resin as I used 32 ounces of resin on this piece thank you to anybody that can help me
Hi I’m a newbie here. I made the same mistake but..... I did not epoxy the cup. Is there anyway you can get the decal off without having to strip it? Thanks 🙏🏽
you can try to pick it off and sand
How would I get Triple Thick off the edges of a stainless steel cup pls? I’m a newbie at this but ur my inspiration! Ur awesome
CHERYL G are you stripping the cup entirely or just cleaning up the lip?
LittleLee and Rose I had sprayed the cup to seal it before I epoxyed it & forgot to tape the lip and bottom ring of cup.
LittleLee and Rose I watched one of your videos & it’s acetone of course. This one says it too. Duh me. Sry to bother you.
Is it possible to just change a letter?
How can you fix a peeling epoxy tumbler if you do not want to strip the whole things?
what caused small dimples?
How many layers of epoxy would I need to use I have to use the hang method , and can I use paper masks I cant afford one like that
The link I provided for the mask (in the description of this tutorial) is only $16 and it is the same one I use. The paper ones only block dust NOT fumes or vapors which is the dangerous part
So sad to see it go! What is the bottle that you use for the acetone?
Some of the acetone is sold that way.....with a pump.
Acetone melts it right off
What grit sandpaper do you use
200 or 300 grit for sanding while crafting for this cup (stripping) any grit will work
What kind of bottle is that with the acetone in it
Tami Beard from the dollar store! It’s a dispenser! Usually in the makeup isle in Dollar tree!
How does that work if you used mogepoge underneath?
I was wondering too cause the one I have to strip has modge podge 😔
Way faster and less fighting with acetone wrapped in paper towel and aluminium foil leave it for 24hrs and it slips right off.
Is that pure acetone?
yes, 100% acetone
I early caught my kitchen on fire once. I was cooking fried okra and the grease caught fire. Scared the hell out of me.
The Crafty Realtor I woke up to it!!! The smell of smoke woke me up and I thought “man there must be a fire super close to our house.....”🤦♀️
How to make that tumbler
Just drop in acetone n done lol
Can you do a fish lure tutorial? I love your videos!!
Which style? I have a few
Can u use a lighter to sub a blowtorch any body please answer
Yes, you sure can!
Ooo cool can u make a tumbler out of a hard plastic Walmart cup
Jarod Woods you sure can! Let me get you a tutorial on working on plastic
Jarod Woods ua-cam.com/video/hEdqpLbsfAU/v-deo.html
Thank you
Wooo that sound of scraping is as bad as nails on a chalkboard 😩
Seriously.
What if you dont have a torch
You can use a heat gun. You can find one on our amazon list www.amazon.com/shop/littleleeandrose
My neighbor had a candle in a glass jar explode and her house caught on fire.put glass candle in a tin pan with water
Drop it in a bucket of acetone
Why do you work on your pretty rug? I think this every time I watch you so I decided to ask.
The white background reflects light and makes it very easy to see what I am doing. They wash very easily:) I wash it almost every day!
Hahaha... You're not the first person to worry about the white rug!!!
She has triplets, she knows how to wash it I'm sure!!! 😂😂
I honestly couldn’t 🤣 I like to think I’m neat, but I would probably destroy this haha
Awesome tip but makes me sad the cup was beautiful
aauntb41 it will be just as gorgeous when I make it for her again!
They forgot the E too.🥺 So here I am trying to fix it lol.
What if there’s alcohol ink in the epoxy? Would the torch set on fire?
no. The alcohol evaporates out of the ink...
I love your videos , but this one killed me , there has to be an easier way besides just throwing the cup out. I hate hate hate striping cups. I have about 4 partially stripped , I tried soaking in acetone, but that does not work for me even when the epoxy is not cured all the way.
Sherry Ebersole I don’t throw the cup out! I strip it and then use it again!
To much for me I rather just start over on a new tumbler and be safe. But thanks for the Tips
These are such helpful videos. But why don’t you do a voiceover instead of trying to yell over the mask? Just wondering if it was a preference.
Taylor Ray Hahahaha it’s not a preference, I am teaching myself filming, lighting and editing and I don’t possess that skill yet. My computer had a meltdown in the middle of learning how and died a quick death. I will learn that trick someday!
