It was misguided but all he wanted was her to be back in his existence. He was cursed for what he'd done and was trapped in a terrible existence for 3000 years. He was warped with time and the cruel punishment he and his followers faced. It's alright to feel bad for him. Pity him, and wish he had a happy ending of his own. Such is humanity. I don't think John Hannah gets enough credit generally - he is brilliant in broad comedy, but can also play the dramatic stuff beautifully - I think that is what makes him so good in films which have a comic side, but also other parts. These films are a starting point, but then you see him in Sliding Doors or Four Weddings & A Funeral and he is excellent in both

      Let's face it, there aren't that many great sword and sorcery movies. The Conan movies and Kull the Conqueror are some of the better ones, although none of them are completely faithful to the original stories written by Robert E. Howard. Some would classify Tolkien's Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit as sword and sorcery, but, honestly, they are so much more than that. Tolkien wrote them as if they were history and legend.
      I wish someone like maybe Stephen Sommers would bring Fritz Leiber's Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser to the screen. That would be interesting.

    Yay, this makes me so happy!! I just consider The Mummy 1 & 2 to be one long movie. The quality of both matches & the story just flows perfectly. Dwayne Johnson has specifically thanked Brendan Frasier for getting his movie career started by brining him in to play the Scorpion King...it was huge for Johnson's career. There is a 3rd Mummy but unfortunately Rachel Weisz, who plays Evie, had such a great career that she didn't come back for #3. They cast a different (good) actress but it just feels weird. The movie itself besides that is actually good, going to China and having an ancient Chinese mummy with the great Jet Li. It's probably worth a watch, but it is less comedy. Jonathan is in it, too.

    So glad you guys enjoyed this one! It's the perfect example of a sequel where everything is expanded and upgraded from the first one while still bringing back the familiar beats and characters. I grew up during the early 2000s and this was one of the best of that era and I watched this movie on home video repeatedly. This really is the perfect action adventure film plus Rick and Evie flirting while fighting side by side make them one of the best on-screen couples! These films wouldn't work without Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz which is why the third film isn't so good because they recast Evie. With Brendan's comeback right now, we're still holding out hope for a fourth film but bring back Rachel as well.

    • @Catherine.Dorian.
      @Catherine.Dorian. 10 місяців тому +2

      Yeah I refused to watch the third film lol, I got like the first five minutes in and the way the two of them were and the lack of chemistry I just gave up. I doubt he’d do a fourth film cause of all his back issues and such

    • @navidhudson7065
      @navidhudson7065 10 місяців тому +1

      @@Catherine.Dorian. The third film had a solid opening but yeah that's it really. The rest was unbearable. If Rachel had returned, I'd still be able to tolerate and watch the film cause tbh her and Brendan's chemistry ARE the real stars. Maria was wooden and boring, very obvious that she was a last minute casting decision. Brendan has said recently that he wants to do a fourth one. As for his back issues, they can find ways to film around him with clever tricks and stunt guys.

    • @Catherine.Dorian.

      @@navidhudson7065 Oh if he’s open to it then I hope he does! That man deserves everything. By opening I meant that scene at the table where she and Brendan seemed like roommates with zero chemistry. I was instantly so bored and it felt so wrong I turned it off. I get that marriages can hit those dry spells and it takes work but going from the first two films to seeing them act nearly like strangers making small talk… I just couldn’t stand it

    • @navidhudson7065
      @navidhudson7065 10 місяців тому +2

      @@Catherine.Dorian. Yes he deserves the world and everything good. That's why the third film should not be canon, imagine going from the first two films to that relationship in the third one. In the second one even after ten years, they were still very much in love. But in the third one, they had to do the dry spell cliche but it doesn't matter cause it was a different Evie anyway. It only they were willing to wait for Rachel to come back but they were so desperate to film and ended up recasting her with the most bland choice possible. And don't get me started on the character of Alex too...

    • @Catherine.Dorian.
      @Catherine.Dorian. 10 місяців тому +3

      @@navidhudson7065 Yeah ugh Alex! They literally had the perfect kid in the second film, he was a great mix of the two (though I still wonder where the blond hair came from) and then they just ruined it.. then they did worse with the Tom cruise one lol. It was pretty insulting that they waited so long between films then couldn’t wait for her to give birth?

    If you didn't notice when Evelyn fell off the boat , that's what happened to her in the past life as well.
    Nefertiri inadvertently leaned too far over the edge of the balcony and fell to her death. Despite having perished, Nefertiri's soul was cast adrift into the currents of time to be reborn once fate deemed the time right to revenge herself upon Anck-Su-Namun. This is why Evelyn is a reincarnation.

At the end when the CGI Scorpion King comes out I leaned over him to whisper "Damn, how many legs is that?" and he started to whisper back "Dunno, eight I guess," but I cut him off switching up to my best booming Rock voice (while still keeping it a whisper) "IT DOESN'T MATTER HOW MANY LEGS IT IS!"
