Now that you've delved into 90s/2000s Brendan Fraser's movies besides The Mummy Returns, you need to watch next year's Brendan Fraser's film: 2000's Bedazzled, it's a great underrated movie and it might just be one of Brendan Fraser's greatest performances ever, if not his best ever! It's a great action comedy, right up his alley and very loosely based on the 60s Bedazzled but it has barely anything to do with it and it's so so much better, like a thousand times better, definitely a must watch!!!
Brendan Fraser is a TREASURE, he was the perfect action swashbuckling hero which they just don't create anymore. George of the jungle was another great movie of his that I watched growing up. Also he and Rachel Weisz were among the reasons this and the sequel were so good. The sequel the mummy returns I love a lot more, bigger and more epic. Don't bother with the awful 2017 remake at all.
Or the Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, the third in the Fraser series.

2017 Mummy had zero to do with this one, it wasn't a remake any more than this one was (taking the title and the idea of a mummy being the villain, creating everything else new). You're correct about it being very bad, though now it's kinda hilarious because you can see them trying to drop hints about the cinematic universe it was trying to create and failed miserably to do so.

20:23 lots Ancient Egyptians considered Cats to be symbols of the divine and some even saw them as the Guardians of the underworld and held them in high regard. the goddess Bastet was usually depicted as having a cats head, there was also the Deity known as Mafdet who would guard the sun god Ra as he did his duties and was a defender against evil and would punish evildoers in the underworld. It makes sense that Imhotep would be afraid of them in general and flee.

I've said it before and I will always say it with both pride and confidence: The Mummy AND The Mummy Returns are both better than The Mummy: Tomb Of The Dragon Emperor. I LOVE the chemistry between Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz (love Maria Bello, but her faked accent left everything to be desired) and while I LOVE Jet Li, Arnold Vosloo plays a villainous ancient corpse way better.

Beni’s an interesting one anyway. Apparently knows multiple languages, clearly hates everything that’s going on, does it anyway because he’s a greedy coward. A bright guy with some morals that all take a back seat to his self-interest.
Contrast that with Jonathan, who is interested in similar things but not ahead of what’s really important. But I like that complexity of character. No one in this is 100% pure except maybe Ardeth Bey and the cat.
Wouldn't call ardeth bay innocent as he advocates the killing of innocents to prevent the rising of imhotep

Just a slight correction, "The Mummy" 1999 was NOT the Sequel to "The Scorpion King" 2002. Rather "The Scorpion King" Featuring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson was a Spinoff or Side story to "The Mummy Returns" 2001. Thank you for another great review

The Mummy is such a classic, absolutely love how it mixes the horror, action and comedy together, it finds the perfect balance, this is a proper adventure film, there just isnt a movie quite like this :) what an epic ride :)

That's weird. Why was there no subtitles when Imhotep first spoke to Beni? He basically recognised the Hebrew language that Beni was talking as the slave language (as the Ancient Egyptians had enslaved the Jews/Israelites at the time) and viewed Beni as a slave. And that he would reward him with gold if he was to do as he asked. That's basically how that scene went 😅 I like these films...well...the 1st two films anyway

The Imhotep from this movie is way more powerful than his version from the 30s, even though the real Imhotep had nothing to do with him.
I’ve been to Egypt with my family and I thank our luck that we never had to face anything that the protagonists of this movie had to face.

Saw a video of actual Egyptologists react to this, they said that since death and mummification were a sacred religious rite for the Egyptians they would never have buried or mummified anyone alive because that would be either blasphemous or sacrilegious (anyone here know the difference between the two), but credited them for getting the wrapping and the bandaging right.
For anyone who doesn’t understand why the mummy spared Benny, it’s coz he’s Jewish, and the Egyptians used them as slaves. So when he spoke Hebrew, he knew he could use him😂😂

I find it rather irritating that there are no sub titles for the scene. Makes me wonder what the source for the material is here.
Then again I recently rewatched the first two seasons of Heroes on Amazon and I had to switch to the German dub because I was so annoyed at Amazon for simply putting "[Speaking Japanese]" under each scene featuring Hero and Ando. Weirdest thing there: Amazon already had a version with proper written subtitles and somehow got rid of that. Apparently it is a trend with streaming services that they create their own (automatic generated) CC subs without properly checking them.
I mean (neither Heroes nor) this is not the first Iron Man in which the Arabic was purposefully not translated because Yinsen translates for Tony.

It's weird to me that on the streaming devices they don't translate when they speak in ancient egyptian. My old ass DVD has subtitles for it automatically

Ahhh yes!! The Mummy, this one, (like “Tremors”) is like comfort food, it’s so entertaining, a great story, it’s fun, has a great cast, specially Brendan Fraser, I always watch it when it’s on tv and at the end you’re like: “ohhh that was great” and you feel happy! 😂 Great reaction! 😎
To answer your question about Anck-su-namun from the prologue, she sacrifices herself because only Imoteph had the powers to resurrect her. So her dying words are “My body is no longer his temple!”, his meaning the Pharoah Seti I .
The Mummy Returns will provide more information about these characters. 🧟♂️
Brendan Fraser in "Gods and Monsters" w/Ian McKellen is a quite different but excellent film and as it is about famous Universal Monsters director James Whale (Frankenstein, Bride of Frankenstein, The Invisible Man) is in a roundabout way connected to this FUN movie. I had watched the mummy so many times in the theater and when it came on vhs I know all the line especially the ones in ancient Egyptian 😂 it’s just a fun adventure movie
I remember my dad once told me he just got scared of the mummy at the movie theaters 23 years ago.

I loved this movie instantly on first watch. The cast is so charismatic and it is just a great adventurous story. This is the only movie I can watch over and over again, it never bores me.

Jonathan does not get enough credit for being a supportive brother who appreciates his sister's abilities and supports her. And actually managing to pickpocket the immortal mummy while being tossed around like a ragdoll. 🤣

What Ancksunamun said before she killed herself was "my body is no longer your temple". I loved this movie when I first saw it, and love it still. The (2017) reboot was a mess, but if you haven't already, can you review the 1932 version? Please?

This is a Movie that I love so Much as a Child and now I love it even more.
This was my favorite movie as a kid. I used to watch it all the time even though that scene with the missing eyes gave me nightmares.

Fun fact: this film almost got the R-rating on account of the skimpy dressing in this film. They added digital blurs post-production to prevent the rating from exceeding PG-13 while also not cutting out the film content. The grand irony is that you can watch the film virtually uncut on AMC or SyFy with a PG rating, violence and frightening content completely intact.

I liked Egyptian mythology more than Scandinavian or Greek when I was a kid.
Oh my god, this trilogy is one of my cherished memories from childhood. I was into whole egyptian culture and mumification when I was younger, I used to read a lot about the gods and rituals, I even convinced my parents to visit Egypt and great pyramid. So many memories man, glad that you enjoyed this 😇 btw, your video came in right in time, I was almost dead writing my thesis, this is my sweet rest 😂

Great movie.This is a fun adventure movie. They don't make movies like the anymore . The last fun adventure movie is Prince Of Persia 2010. The Mummy 2 is also a good movie but the third one is horrible. The modern remake with Tom crusie is very different but it is decent and more horror. You should also see Blast from the Past with Brandon Frazer. Also The National Treasure movies.

I agree on National Treasures movies, I'm sad there are no movies like those anymore. Tbh I'm kind of bored with all action genre and superhero stuff only they release nowadays, they're great but I wish more puzzle/riddle/history/mystery heavy movies will be mad

if you are thinking about watching the Mummy returns, I'd recommend watching the Scorpion King first
It is VERY difficult to read Egyptian hieroglyphics in your mind. It is a language you sort of have to sound out. Something English done with the same system would be a picture of a honeybee and a leaf for the word "Believe/Belief".
I love the first 2 Mummy movies but the 3rd one wasn't as good. Hope you enjoy reacting to them.

Never seen this without subtitles for the Ancient Egyptian lines. It can make some of it kind of confusing.

To summarize, Hugh Jackman takes on Mr Hyde, The Wolfman, Frankenstein’s Monster, and Dracula.
Since you liked this one, I'd check out Van Helsing as well. It's by the same writer/director as the first two Mummy movies, Stephen Sommers, and is one of the most fun movies I've ever seen. And don't watch the third Mummy movie, Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. It's not worth it.
What platform did you watch this on? Every time I’ve seen this movie it says what they are saying in Arabic or ancient Egyptian which would have made it easier for you to understand everything, but either way glad you got to see this film, one of my favorites!!

I am not sure why but especially streaming services have a tendency to create their own subs. I thought at some point that the original production companies outsourced the writing of the subs and so the copyright claims are scattered across multiple companies!?
Especially with Netflix CC subs they often omit everything said in a different language than the main language of the movie. It don't know if these are created automatically and the algorithm is stupidly set to only identify the other languages but not translate them or if actual people can be so dull.
My favorite example for Netflix is the show DARK that is originally in German and therefore has CC subs in German for the first season. But for some reason in season two and three there are no CC subs in German but instead they created CC subs in English. So when you watch the show (as it is best viewed in German either way; the English dub isn't really good) with English subs and proceed to season 2, Netflix will display the CC subs. Besides the fact that you miss some French phrases appearing in that season, the CC subs are based on the dubbing book which is off because of them changing dialogue to be lip syncing. The proper English subs are based on a different dubbing book instead.
Another odd example is Heroes on Amazon: The characters Hero and Ando are speaking Japanese for the most of season one and the show was originally aired (in English speaking countries) with subs translating them. The new Amazon subs simply read [speaking Japanese] throughout their scenes. (btw. in Germany they stupidly thought the German viewer could not handle subs at all and dubbed all characters in German... sadly many of Hero's scenes have him either need his friend Ando translate for him - like Yinsen does for Tony in Iron Man - or have him struggle with the little English he knows to interact with other characters. So in the German dub Hero suddely seems to be mentally challenged or almost deaf instead of simply trying to speak a foreign language.)
This movie was one of my favorite films to watch as a teen, and the best out of all the trilogy.
*Also reason Imhotep is terrified of cats is because they are guardians of the Underworld in Ancient Egyptian mythology. He himself as the undead is afraid to be sent back to the Underworld.*

So when Imhotep sees Beni, you can hear him speaking in different languages. He was trying to get rid of him through some religious chants. The last language he spoke was the 'Language of Slaves'. So Imhotep tells to serve him and he will be rewarded

so tim as someone that watched this movie when it came out there is a interesting fact... the mummy when he spoke had subtitles... WHY these were removed i'll never understand.
the reason why he reacted to when beni was speaking hebrew, its because not only need imotep recogize it its because it was the language of the slaves since in the bible the hebrews were slaves to the Egyptians (i would HIGHLY recommend watching the animated film prince of egypt if you haven't already)

Personal thoughts on "the Mummy".
It's a duology. Only two movies. You know, like "The Godfather II"and "The Dark Knight"being the last of the series. :P
Lol, but seriously, 3 is just TERRIBLE. Partially because of the setting, but also because Rachel Weisz was busy working on "Eragon"(really bad movie)at the time "Tomb of the Dragon Emperor"was being filmed. This meant they had to recast the part of Evie and give it to someone else, meaning the awesome chemistry between herself and Brendan Fraser was gone. That was one of the best things about the first two movies.

The original "Mummy's curse"which spawned the myth was actually just ancient bacteria which killed the people who entered the tomb, just a fun fact.
The Curator purposely set the map on fire, since he's Medjai, and was trying to stop them.
Down the line, I would suggest watching both"Deep Rising"and the live action"the Jungle Book(1994)"by Stephen Sommers(who directed both of the Mummy movies). A great horror and adventure movie all in all!

Completely jumped some of the best early bits - Evie's destruction of the library, the hanging - bidding scene, "Wait here. I'll get help" and "It's still ..... juicy". Obviously no noteworthy reaction for any of these, which is EXTREMELY disappointing in itself.

It's a bit of a Google translate quality. The word he's using for rewards is more similar to "prizes", and the word for great usually means "large". But it's still appreciated to hear Hebrew in a Hollywood blockbuster

Also mirrors of today are 97% reflective.... If you make them go into a loop of looking into the other mirror than it gets slowly greener... The green is the 3% light that doesn't get reflected
In the movie the mummy chooses her to sacrifice.... I think that that is just because she was the one to read from it.... Would that mean that if it were a guy... That he would have to kiss a guy 🤔
The mummy is scared of cats because in ancient Egyptian they were the gards of the underworld Anubis was one of those god like cat figures... Which the mummy was burried beneath the feet of a statue of Anubis

Bro, where did you watch this? They totally screwed you with the lack of subtitles for the ancient Egyptian. Beni speaks the language of the slaves "Hebrew" and that's why Imhotep thinks he'll be useful. There's more times you missed out but I don't think it's too much you missed out on. Maybe give it a re-watch eventually on your own time but from another source. It's a movie that's good to watch countless times.
Love this film so this is like the 5th/6th reaction I’ve watched. This is the only one that didn’t include the falling bookcases, the prison bartering and quite a few other brilliant scenes
Ancient Egyptians worshiped cats, Imhotep being so scared of the cat makes sense, he's afraid he will be struck down by the Gods for harming their avatar.
One of my favorite movies of all time!!! Have been watching these movies since I was teenager. This genre, story and characters are amazing! Rick and Evy best couple ever! ❤❤
I had 1 and 2 on vhs back then and I would torture my classmates with it every year at school. We got to choose a movie at the end of the year for history class and nobody brought one, except me every year the same haha. Heard a classmate say o not again hahah. Loved it!
