I don't have a press either so I put my bearing in the freezer the night before, for real tight fittings I will put receiving part in oven they go together real easy. Good video Thanks
Good weekend task ... I strongly suggest that you buy a hydraulic press as opposed to a hammer to remove any bearing or clutch hub ... also when unscrewing any bolts please use a ratchet first to break bolt then you can remove all bolts with your drill or low torque impact wrench. Remember most bolts have either blue or red locktite and breaking a bolt initially with an impact wrench will one day bite you in the rear. Other than that 👍
excellent mate much appreciate the upload ...my transmission currently stripped down just for this purpose of clutch basket bearing replacement ..looks straight forward enough ..greets from the land down under mate (australia )
I did the clutch on my Honda. Are use the Barnett carbon fiber clutch kit for it. I wasn't sure what I was going to find when I toured apart. My clutch was still working as long as I wrote it normally. But if I gave it some throttle the clutch would slip. When I got it tore apart I could've easily just replace the springs. The original springs were quite weak. The new clutch works great in mine.
Great vid. You had the same problem I’m having with my road king. When you pulls that rod out with the clutch plates my eyes went bug eyed. Had it went back together with ease. Again good vid.
I am just now changing mine. It took a while to get all the parts. Long year if you know what I mean... I’m watching your vid and stopping it as I go. Step by step what you did. You have saved me headache and then some. You ever in Columbus, Ohio and want a drink I got you covered buddy :)
The same thing just happened to my 01 king everyone I spoke to could t call it and my mw his a mo th out so it looks like I’ll be doing it myself hope I get the same result as u thanks for the video
I ended up using a 3/4 inch drive, 4 ft breaker bar to take the comp nut off.... threw a ziptie on the front brake and bought the special too that wedges between the chain and sprocket. What a releif
I need your advice. In the video, you install 10 friction-plate In the manual, i saw 1 seat damper-spring(37883-98), 1spring damper(37884-98), 9 friction-plate, and 8 steel plate. You didn't install the seat damper-spring(37883-98) and spring damper(37884-98). Instead, you installed 10 friction-plate. Can I use 10 friction-plate and 9 steel plate without using the seat damper-spring(37883-98) and spring damper(37884-98) when changing plates?
Sonny, do you think your solid sprocket "compensator delete" was the cause? I just removed my compensator in favor of a 34 tooth sprocket myself, a lot of folks are telling me I should get a billet clutch basket now cause the stock cast baskets like to snap with a solid comp delete.
Hi Travis, I got your message on Facebook and responded. I believe if it isn't broken don't fix it. The one you currently have could last 200k the one I replaced here was at 100k. Most bikes don't make it near those miles
after adjusting my clutch cable, soon i ride my bike few miles my clutch lever starts to get all wobbly lots of slack and cant change gear what can it be.
Здравствуйте! Какие звуки издавал двигатель при этой проблеме? Когда начинаю отпускать сцепление в двигателе что-то стучит, и дергаеться ремень привода на заднее колесо. Twin cam 103
In video when you pulled basket off and that rod that came out with it when you reassembled it did it have pressure on it tightening clutch? My rod goes all the way through and as i try tightening the allen with jam nut it barely puts any pressure on clutch and i have almost no clutch play I can’t engage the clutch
Lol I did this years ago and it worked great over 40,000 miles with zero issues. There are many ways to accomplish the same thing, you do what you want to your bike, I will do what I want to my bike and we will all be happy
What failed was lack of knowledge. I have been reading studying and watching harley mechanics. DO not own the specialy tools but now I know what they are. I suggest buying a shop manual
The part had never been apart from the factory I have the manual I put it together and it has worked great for 40k miles. You do what you want, I got an idea why don’t you make some videos on the correct way to do it
@@TheBadgers Oh by the way when you insert those bearings bearings you can also put the bearings in the freezer you don't need a press either freeze the bearing and shrinks it up drop it in let it warm back A drop that spline in the bearing the same way without a press
lol please tell me where I ever say I’m a Harley mechanic?? I use what most people actually have access to and it works fine that bike has 145k on it now with no issue with that repair you want pro go find you one
I see your problem. You've got 3 motorcycles and one nut to keep them running.🧐😮😞😫🤔 I wonder if you realized that the spline shaft must be replaced as well. Prolly not. You'll be doing that clutch job over in anothen 1000 miles - or sooner. YOU NEVER NEVER NEVER POUND ON OR PUT PRESSURE ON THE INNER BEARING RACE. You've prolly destroyed the bearing. Well now it's a question of which part of your clutch will fail first the splines or the bearing. Be interesting to see in your next video in a month or two. But thanks for the video and thanks for reminding me why I should never buy a bike from a self maintainer. PS I really can't believe you worked as a Toyota Mechanic. So many bad practices.
I see your problem, you can’t see the video is over 2 years old I have put on over 80,000 miles since this repair with no problems. Funny when people like you come on acting like you know what’s best for everyone. Guess that’s why you use a fake name I wouldn’t want anyone to know who I am either. Just changed out one of our compensatorers last week. Not to hard to do just have to take the inner primary off. Good video ride safe.
Glad the repair went well, thanks for watching!!

I just used my Ryobi battery impact drill. Worked just as well
For what? If you pulled your compensator nut off with your battery operated impact you got lucky you found it before it came completely loose

It is not a hard repair just take your time and be aware of how it all comes apart. Good Luck!!
Yep,I've seen that a couple of times. Backward threads= left hand threads.
Yes like throwing a curveball

Can I use 10 friction-plate and 9 steel plate without using the seat damper-spring(37883-98) and spring damper(37884-98) when changing plates?
Reading the manual says not to use impact to remove. Need 1 of 2 tools to block either end from turning during removal and installation
You do what you want the impact worked perfect for me, and ask any tech what they use.
Great video. Keep up the good work.
Thanks for watching
Thank you very much, great video, I learned a lot...
Future hint.... Put the clutch basket in the oven at 275d and the bearing in the freezer... Then put it together easily and not damage the bearing.
Well it didn’t damage the bearing this time it’s been over 70k since I replaced it
My next project. I dread the splines being stripped. I have no drive in any gear.
As long as the splines on the basket are stripped and not the shaft you should be good

I do the same freeze and heat by heat gun
Ok, mine is doing the same. It'll go in gear but it rolls. So it that the clutch or the clutch basket?
Could be either just have to tear it apart to find out. I had no idea what mine was till I got it apart.
How did the Barnett clutch extra plate kit feel vs oem clutch plates?
They have been great have about 75k on them since this video so I am a fan
