In order to install the washer, you do not need to disassemble the grinder. After removing the upper millstone, the lower millstone is unscrewed from the shaft clockwise. In order not to scratch the millstone, place a rag on it and turn it clockwise with pliers. This grinder has a coarse grinding step. Therefore, it will not become an espresso grinder.

Thanks a lot for your video. I've just managed to successfully tweak my grinder - let's see tomorrow morning how the grind result will look like.
    Just some learnings:
    1. as suggested from someone else to get access to the washers from the top: I was not able as the upper millstone was tightened too strong (but now after dis- & reassembling it's a great shortcut to do further tweaking)
    2. Washer: inner diameter of 10mm is important, but the outer diameter of 15mm is not as important (I think you could also install 20-25mm easily)
    3. to remove the power button I needed to cut off the 2 barbs of it (but don't worry about it). otherwise you don't get access to the screw underneath.
    4. at 4:46min it's hard to see, but you need to push the "plate" down to screw the nut on the threaded rod
    5. at 5:48min: start with the front and don't pinch this sealing thingy from the buttons module. really take care that the buttons are properly working (mechanical feedback). double-check or you need to reopen everything later (like I did).
    have fun tuning your grinder!!

I’ve just undone this “tuning” made by previous owner. The large gear (the one with the nut) started to slip under load - this is what springs and balls are for - to protect the motor if the mill gets stuck or something. But the problem is that with extra washer the shaft becomes too short. The shaft has certain shape and it’s important that the shaft goes through both metal sides of the large gear. I don’t think I made it clear enough, but TL/DR is that it’s not enough to just put extra/bigger washer to have reliable setup.

Thanks, I did this. Few notes:
    - After this, seems all settings above 5, the top part of grinder is shaky. I did not try grinding with it since it seemed scary, and i only need espresso.
    - I dont know if I fucked up, but seems after this I cannot use the portafilter mode,,,,, I will try and hack container mode, but it is not as easy to start stop in that
    - The grind setting of 4 gives me incredible grinding, works well with bottomless portafilter + EC685 (Previously setting 1 was watery!)
I got 10pc washers of 1mm, 1.5mm & 2 mm. I ended up using 1.5mm + One of the old (seems 0.5mm?) for total 2mm, seems good on first try.

@@sizzlarrmaybe a polished stainless steel washer ( in german called Passscheibe) that adds around 0,25-0,5mm thickness should work well. It‘s important to use a washer material that doesn‘t add to much friction to the assembly. It‘s also important that after modification you start testing with a coarse to fine setting and not start from the finest setting to avoid direct contact of the milling parts

It will not work to unscrew the lower millstone with your hands. On top of the rag, you need to firmly grasp with pliers and sharply, with force, turn clockwise. The millstone must break loose. Further, it should be easily unscrewed by hand. If you are afraid that the shaft will fall down, do not unscrew the millstone completely. Prepare the washer in advance and perform all further actions with your right hand, and with your left hold the shaft from falling down. Good luck.
