A filter basket is a filter basket, if it's 51mm it will fit. Portafilters are a different story because they have different locking mechanisms into the group head.
You can brew traditional espresso, like how it's done in a café, whereas if you use a pressurised basket you don't get the full range of flavour as it's kind of a hacky way to get something that kind of looks like espresso from beans that are stale or too coarse by forcing the water through a tiny pinhole at the bottom of the basket making a jet of 'espresso' that hits the bottom of the inside of the portafilter, forming a crema-like foam, while also restricting the water from exiting the basket and creating a little bit of pressure mimicking what the finely ground beans do in a normal espresso brew
With non pressurized filter, you will have to work more, many coffees will have issues, you will waste lot of coffee, you will be forced to buy an expensive grinder, you won't be able to use preground coffee anymore, your shots will not be the same anymore, you will probably lose lot of time, in many occasions you will get your station dirty, but in exchange of all that people convince themselves that they are cool and get so much flavor coming from heaven

It takes some practice but you get way better, dense foam with this wand. It's a bit of work to replace the wand, I'd say medium difficulty. I have the same machine. I get silky foam, but the latte is barely warm. How do I heat up the milk more, without over steaming it? I read that if you plunge the metallic steamer deeper into the milk jug, it will continue heating the milk without foaming it up. Is this true?
for the first 6-8 seconds let your steam wand hover right above the milk line while you hear that "paper tearing" sound, and from there, you can let your wand down into the milk a centimeter or so and let the milk form a vortex. This textures the milk and you can never have too much of it. Do that until the pitcher is too hot to touch, and then you're ready.

Whats your opinion on the Dedica dude? Also mine has developed an issue with the power button doesnt click in place (after several tried it does) so should I open it up and fix it myself you think? Peace
There's a comment on another UA-cam video that a guy teaches how to fix this. I can't find it right now, but if you google search you might get some results. The TLDR is to put your machine upside down (get the water out first, obviously) and then press the bottom (now up) against the machine itself and at the same time press the button. I did it to my machine and it worked. One piece of advice: after it, just leave the machine on stand-by mode forever, don't use the power button anymore, just leave it "on" and when you need to turn it on, just press one of the top button and it wakes up from stand-by mode.

So far it works fine and I am happy with it but I am sure if you are willing to pay more you can get better equipment but its not easy to find for 51mm. - Do not use old beans (maximum 1 month after roasting) - Only grind as many beans as necessary each time. - Perhaps you did not tamp properly, did not use enough powder or ground too coarsely?
The original wont let you use „espresso fine“ coffee, because the pressure would become too high to let the water trough the small hole. So you have to use pretty ground grinded coffee (like pregrinded from the supermarket) that will not bring you real espresso taste und texture. The modified one has not just one hole, the bottom is all of holes that let the water trough. So it is possible to use fine coffee, have the right pressure in the basket und get a real espresso, not just coffee with a fake crema on it.
Pressurized portafilter can actually balance and factor out a bad or coarser coffee grind. Unfortunately the espresso result has thinner body and not much flavor. I've recently changed to a non-pressurized portafilter and the taste is totally different.
I would just remove the plastic and block the screw hole with a little bigger SUS screw. Whatever how you file the plastic, every cup of coffee will be contaminated. Beware.
So confused, why not just leave out the plastic bit altogether without all the cutting? Does it produce more crema? I just use mine without the plastic thingy.
@@guan5849 Basically, not. The screw goes into the plastic part. You could block the screw hole in some other ways, but in my experience it doesn't give me any trouble. The coffee drips out of the regular two holes only.
@@ArtyHome Yeah I understood the modifiying part, but I wanna know if you ordered the basket from anywhere in particular or if it came with the wooden handle?

I did it 3-4 times, it's quite easy. After that you'll get the max out of that grinder, which is not good at all by default the key is to turn that knob a couple of times, reassemble, try it, and do it again until you are satisfied. I turned mine 6 or 7 clicks, but every grinder is different, so you need to find your way. some people turn it more, some less
Hello, I am from Bangladesh. I use the same machine. But only has access to chinese bottomless portafilters. Used the same grind settings as yours on my timemore C2. Before I used to get a clear shot but now there is an overflow every time. Doesn’t happen with my pressurized portafilter but the chinese bottomless is actually very loose so I feel like that’s what is causing it. Can you please help with this?
what do you do with surplus of ground coffee? (f.e, you remove 3 gr from ground coffee in this video) are you throwing it the garbage or using it later? I see you throw it in a basket but ı don't know if it is trash and I hope it isn't trash.
Espresso is a bit wasteful by nature. Changing grind size needs purging to remove old grounds from the grinder, and many shots are pulled and thrown away when dialing in. Most people dump them, i tend to keep them in a spare mason jar, and use them when I'm out of coffee. Though, being such fine grinds of different sized, the coffee I get out of it is never very good. Alternatively, you could use those grounds/used coffee to cultivate mushrooms. Mushroom "Seeds" are not very expensive and they grow well on coffee grounds.
@@MrMarki134 ı dont mean used grinded coffe after taking espresso. I mean surplus grinded coffee more than 17 grams before taking espresso shot. And also good idea to using used coffe in cultivating thanks. it is maybe also good for the flowers.

@@ArtyHome I think we should not waste the coffee, you can save every 3-4 gr surplus coffee until it makes 14 gr. And you can use this 14 gr accumulated coffee to make espresso to your guests who you don't like too much :)

What is better espresso with the single basket: 1) bottomless portafilter or 2) standard dedica portafilter with the cutted black plastic insert? Why do you cut the black plastic part if you are having a bottomless portafilter? Do you face any temperature difference of the espresso of both solutions?
I can clearly see the difference of the bottomless portafilter when it is not tamp hard enough. Or grind coarse coffee beans, the liquid will splash around. As for the taste and temperature, I don't think much of a difference.
@@ArtyHome Thanks for your reply. And also thanks for your nice videos Is there a need to seal the cutted black plastic part to the aluminium part? Otherwise there will get some coffee in between. Do you have there any issue?

There's a comment on another UA-cam video that a guy teaches how to fix this. I can't find it right now, but if you google search you might get some results. The TLDR is to put your machine upside down (get the water out first, obviously) and then press the bottom (now up) against the machine itself and at the same time press the button. I did it to my machine and it worked. One piece of advice: after it, just leave the machine on stand-by mode forever, don't use the power button anymore, just leave it "on" and when you need to turn it on, just press one of the top button and it wakes up from stand-by mode.
@@pedroleal8543 I didnt know there was a standby option so i figured that out on how to but ill try to fix the button myself i think aswell just to get that out of the way. Thanks for taking the time!
@@amhazey No problem. Meanwhile, I found the comment: "For anyone coming here looking for help with an inoperable power switch - I removed the bottom cover of my machine and noticed that the plastic housing of the machine interferes with the plastic switch. When I had it upside down the switch would engage properly. If your switch doesn't click and stay `on', try turning the machine upside down and/or pressing down on the base while pushing in the switch."
@@pedroleal8543 my solution to prevent the problem is never to switch the power off. it goes off automatically after 9 mins only
How much milk do you put in the lattes?
My coffee or cappucino turns out not too hot.. how can i make it piping hot?
How to clean the pressurized portafilter if I don't have the powder please?
So the bottomless portafilter with the wooden handle doesn‘t fit for the dedica, right? If it does, i‘d really like to know which exact ohne it is.
Theres several on amazon made in China bottomless portafilters. I have bought one 4 weeks ago it took 3 weeks to arrive
@@thisizamra would you recommend it?
@@anton2474 the quality is on the price level. I paid like 18€ i guess maybe 21€. The head and the handle can be taken a part it’s hold up with a screw system.
I think the head is not really stainless steel but alloyed like that. So far it works fine and I am happy with it but I am sure if you are willing to pay more you can get better equipment but its not easy to find for 51mm.
I also costumized the original delonghi portafilter. I cut the plastic part inside so that the 17g filter can fit inside if wanted. So now I have options of bottomless or with bottom and 13 or 17g coffee etc
Hi what is the size of the filter basket?
The video used the “single option” for the double basket. That could be reason for those who could not achieve créma.
Is that why im fukin up my crema eeeveeeryyy day? Just use the single option for my double basket? just yesterday a 250g of beans landed in the trash when i was trying my crema...
@@nyclasz try less beans and finer grind if you don’t have a scale
The buttons can be programmed for any desired length of time so the single shot he had just programmed to this time me and my missus like our shots different so I programmed one for her and the other for me.
interesting. the link for the 51mm basket explicitly says : Not fit : Delonghi Dedica 685, EC260BK, E680, EC220cd, 3630, EC720, EC155, EC685, EC680M, 680,Delonghi
Because it's too deep. They assume people will just try to pop it in, hence the mod to the plastic insert.
@@devildog8328 thank you. i ended up solving this a little while back. bought a used basket and cut the black insert part in half, as you described here. ty.
i did that to my 680, extraction was horrible...no crema its was literally just dripped coffee. any advice?
Mine was the same.... I'm
going back to the old one.
- Do not use old beans (maximum 1 month after roasting)
- Only grind as many beans as necessary each time.
- Perhaps you did not tamp properly, did not use enough powder or ground too coarsely?
Hello!! what is the difference between the two types of filters?
Beware.
You just had to seal the screw hole with a screw and nut and washer of the same size!
Did you really cut it????
So confused, why not just leave out the plastic bit altogether without all the cutting? Does it produce more crema? I just use mine without the plastic thingy.
Can you screw the middle screw in ?
@@guan5849 Basically, not. The screw goes into the plastic part. You could block the screw hole in some other ways, but in my experience it doesn't give me any trouble. The coffee drips out of the regular two holes only.
Do you use the filter that came with the bottomless portafilter or did you order a specific one?
I ordered the 18g basket and made some modifications to the portafilter.

@@ArtyHome Yeah I understood the modifiying part, but I wanna know if you ordered the basket from anywhere in particular or if it came with the wooden handle?
I’m using the dedica grinder on the finest setting but it always times at 18 secs. Any tips?
The dedica grinder cannot grind it finely enough.
I'm copying my reply to another guy:
hey, you need to modify the grinder (there are vids on youtube). type delonghi kg79 (or what's the name of yours) modification and follow the instructions. I did it 3-4 times, it's quite easy. After that you'll get the max out of that grinder, which is not good at all by default
the key is to turn that knob a couple of times, reassemble, try it, and do it again until you are satisfied. I turned mine 6 or 7 clicks, but every grinder is different, so you need to find your way. some people turn it more, some less
Hi, can you say me what name of frother?
Hello, I am from Bangladesh. I use the same machine. But only has access to chinese bottomless portafilters. Used the same grind settings as yours on my timemore C2. Before I used to get a clear shot but now there is an overflow every time. Doesn’t happen with my pressurized portafilter but the chinese bottomless is actually very loose so I feel like that’s what is causing it. Can you please help with this?
make coffe with aot oppening, like it!
great video ! i also want try this MOD ,but the black cover beside have 1-1.5mm space ,any effect if use pressurefilter ?
sorry for my poor english ~😂
I haven't tried.
I'm going to try it soon.
Hi, whats your mod for the steam wand?

Hi! In what temperature do you set the Dedica? Thanks.
Now I set it to low.
do u know what the °C for LOW ,MEDIUM ,HIGH ?? not write at the manual
@@ArtyHome what's the difference?
@@ArtyHome such a short extraction time and low temperature seems to get weak and acidic shot.
@@yellowfans1215 Quite big. Low temperature lower extraction and higher acidity. Higher temperature more strong and bitter shot.
what do you do with surplus of ground coffee?
I mean surplus grinded coffee more than 17 grams
before taking espresso shot. And also good idea to using used coffe in cultivating thanks. it is maybe also good for the flowers.
I'm sorry, I dropped it. I didn't adjust the amount of ground coffee in this video, so there was more coffee than I could use.
But the coffee I have used. I'll put it under the tree in my garden.
@@ArtyHome I think we should not waste the coffee, you can save every 3-4 gr surplus coffee until it makes 14 gr. And you can use this 14 gr accumulated coffee to make espresso to your guests who you don't like too much :)
Great espresso shot, 17grams in 34grams out in 30secs! 👏👏👏 Have you ever modified the water amount on Dedica machine for single/double shot?
I reset the amount of water by pressing the button next to it. Until the desired amount of liquid and time is obtained. Release the button, the device will remember this value for the next time.
@@ArtyHome how to do ? hold button until the water is reach 30-35ml and then release ?
Shouldnt be 17 grams in 50 grams in 27 secs?
What is better espresso with the single basket: 1) bottomless portafilter or 2) standard dedica portafilter with the cutted black plastic insert? Why do you cut the black plastic part if you are having a bottomless portafilter?
Do you face any temperature difference of the espresso of both solutions?
I can clearly see the difference of the bottomless portafilter when it is not tamp hard enough. Or grind coarse coffee beans, the liquid will splash around. As for the taste and temperature, I don't think much of a difference.
@@ArtyHome Thanks for your reply. And also thanks for your nice videos
Is there a need to seal the cutted black plastic part to the aluminium part? Otherwise there will get some coffee in between. Do you have there any issue?
@@steffenlehmann3610 agree, when its cut, there is no seal.. this will affect cleaning process too. too tedious
Why not to entirely remove the plastic part?
There's a screw at the bottom and if you remove it completely there's an extra hole where the screw was
And how is that a problem? Does it make it messy for coffee to come out of it or something else?@@alinaqirizvi1441
@@akashbansal214 yes very messy

Why would you need to modify?
Can you just pull that black plastic thing out altogether instead of cutting it?
Not sure if can tighten the middle screw
Hi, Did you modify your machine, changing the water pressure on the coffee tablet?
Thanks for the video! Have you tried the original basket but WITHOUT the black piece? I am afraid cofre will just flow everywhere, doing a mess 😅
I only want to remove the plastic piece to avoid microplastics and those things.
I just tried and had some filters from a La Pavoni 51mm. Removed the plastic completely and poured a shot. The espresso was flowing from the top as well so that does not work unless the filter is fully compatible with EC685. The filter basket mentioned in the description of this video is also NOT compatible according to the Amazon description of the product.
Why can’t you just use the other basket altogether
Can someone provide what basket is this ?
ใช้ ก้านชง bottomless กับเครื่องนี้เลยไม่ได้หรอครับ

Hai. What is the total length for cutting the black plastic?
I cut 15mm.
James Hoffman shud watch ur vid. Probably he would stop bashing delonghi dedica then 🤣🤣

Hello, how big is your tamper?
51mm
What the different between with the plastic part and with out ?
Without a plastic part coffee also comes out of the screw hole, thus, you can't extract to 2 cups.
@Arty home can you use the other portafilter with the non pressurized basket ?
I just ordered the double non-pressurized basket for my Dedica 685 as per your link, but I just noticed after ordering it that the information in the Amazon listing says that it does not fit the Dedica EC685. I am a bit confused now.
did it fit?
@@joshuabaxter4479 Yes -Joshua it did fit!! But-- I also bought a naked/bottomless porta-filter handle. And for me this has been excellent!! Its' all I use now. better than pressurized filter DeLonghi ?
Better than a pressure filter, DeLonghi can fit more ground coffee. And the ground coffee used must be finely.
Coffee with a rich and mellow taste.
Why not just use the bottomless portafilter you have instead of changing up this one? What am I missing here?
It's for people who don't have a bottomless portafilter or people who do and want a double spouted portafilter as well as their bottomless one
Will the graef filter fit too?
No

Bỏ phần nhựa ra không dùng.Không cần phải cắt nó!
No need to cut just take it out and directly put thw new basket
I'm planning to remove the plastic component altogether but I'm worried that alluminum is cancerogenic :D
you shouldt worry about this - every day you use allum in the kitchen
i don’t think i understand the “why” of what was done, might someone explain this please ~
Well normal non-pressurised filter baskets don't fit in the normal Dedica portafilter because of the plastic insert, however you can't remove the insert as it would leave an extra screw hole at the bottom of the portafilter, so the solution is to cut the insert to allow a normal basket to fit
😀😀😀💯☕Брызгать не будет,😀💯👍🏻
The other option is to convert the portafilter to botomless cutting.
