I know this is kind of stupid, but it is a pet peeve of mine: Shouldn't *Jill* have been the one to fire a rocket at Wesker alongside Chris? I mean, from a series standpoint it would've been much more satisfying that the protagonists of RE1 are the ones who gets to "finish the fight" with the antagonist of RE1. Jill got kinda robbed of that moment, and it's always bothered me.

Man, this game looked incredible back in 2009. It's aged, as of course everything going for semi-realism does, but it's stylized so it's really not bad at all. The story even has good moments, even though they're in an overly-whacky script. Even silly stuff like Chris's absurd arms are explained in the story. He got jacked so he could combat Wesker again if he needed to, which ultimately succeeds when Chris manages to be able to push a superhumanly strong opponent, even if only a little. Something which Wesker even acknowledges as impressive with the look on his face. Even though it's a mixed bag, I look back on this game fondly. It has issues, and is certainly no masterpiece, but the people who made it really cared and it shines through.
To me its the best out of the series. Nostalgia this and that but all the games aged bad and in my oppinion are rubbish compared to most other games supposed to be horror and scary. 5 is just the most fun and best written from beginning to end. And with a friend or Girlfriend its just a blast. Same level as Army of Two

She's also a medic so she was never meant to be involved in much combat like Chris and Jill are. Even in her last appearance on the CGI movie, she didn't fight much either. The item drop system is weird, I agree.
You gotta be careful firing RPGs in an enclosed space, or any space where your backblast area isn't clear. The charge that expels the rocket from the tube will still make a mess of what's behind it (interior of your helicopter) and very likely the people in the helicopter will experience some nasty overpressure. Which can really mess you up. And they fired 2. Yeah, they'd prob be dead.
The only thing to take away from this....diatribe?...dissertation? Is DAMN THE TORPEDOES! Uhhh....sir this is technically an aircraft.... I SAID DAMN THE TORPEDOES SOLDIER!!
Despite this game being a huge departure from RE4, I absolutely enjoyed the coop aspect of this game. NEVER play this game with the braindead A.I. , it's the ultimate exercise in frustration. The daytime atmosphere and lighting definitely reduced the scare factor of this game. Still, I have to thank this game for giving us 1. Boulder punching Chris (which funnily enough was referenced in RE8) and 2. Matrix Wesker, one of the coolest villains in videogames. He wears shades indoors like no one's business and throws ballistic missiles at you with his bare hands.
I loved this game when it came out due to only having co-op memories about it. Even on a solo run it's a great game that is no cheesier than RE4 and gets a bad rep. It's not as bad as Code Veronica 2 but not as good as RE6.
Unironically one of my most-played games of the Playstation 3 era. It still holds a place in my heart, I don't care how clumsy the whole thing was- it still felt weirdly in-line with everything preceding it.
One of my all time favourite coop games. Great rendition of the story to gents. Perfectly sums up the monologue of what its like while you play with a friend, or dare I say par tner...
On the whole "Sheva not getting a resolution" thing; the plan with RE6 was to have an additional Episode (all the campaigns are called episodes from what I can recall) that would center around what Sheva is doing during the RE6 campaign. Unfortunately RE6 was a disaster in the review world so everything except the Agent mode and episode Ada got shitcanned.

my friend and I played this co-op pulling an all-nighter when it first came out. we thought it was hysterical that the game was like 1 hour in Africa (the setting of the game, and the content of all the marketing promotions) then suddenly some alien Mayan temple with laser mirrors and Egyptian hieroglyphs for the rest of the game. also the underground labs: the amount of labor, distribution, and infrastructure required on the surface to sustain such a project would've taken years and required a town's population of contractors, housing, ports, and roads to construct underground, and yet somehow they built it beneath an African slum village without anyone knowing.
It's all in Africa. You start in a town, go to tribal lands (their infection caused them to dress in ancestral clothing) that laso includes their sacred temple grounds, and the end is a mix of a facility left to ruin (built where none would look for it mind you).

5:37 so these two made a career out of fighting not just zombies, but zombies whos heads explode into a a fleshy mass of blade-tipped tentacles. My mom's boyfriend at the time was a drug dealer, and he got a PS3 + the collectors edition of this game. I tried beating the game in a single sitting and my PS3 overheated the next day. cool story tho
I like how IHE keeps making secondary channels to release more content that requires less production but the production always ends up ballooning. Not complaining though, I love all the content.

Dude in the first hand to hand section of the Wesker fight, you could fire a missile at him, and he would fucking catch it. I kid you not pulling out the big guns that would one shot every other boss and he caught it, blew my mind. You can also shoot the missile in his hands for a kinda two step process to blow him up. but, grinding that game and having Wesker whoop you up and down after 8 hours of finally getting to him . on the first play through with a friend trying to beat him. Having that moment of , I have you now you sob. Knowing that every RE game boss respects the rocket launcher one hit just to watch a Wesker fucking catch it? Well I respected the character after that. Also the Volcano fight has a special scene if you are out of ammo. Chris holds him and Sheva stabs though the boss and hits Chris a bunch. You can like kill your own friend trying to finish the boss was special. Because at the point it was just a panic of “GET HIM!! DON’T WORRY ABOUT ME GET HIM!!” Maybe it was the sleep deprived grind with a friend but that dumb boss fight was really special to me. “Suck on this Wesker” I thought he would catch both of them. Also I think that’s a very hilarious dumb thing to say. Like after all these years? These books these games. But I guess like what should he say. Maybe that’s actually the most resident evil line of all. Anyways great video
This is my favorite "bad" game. I've played it for hundreds of hours and with like 15 people over the past 13 years whose names I keep in a list. Among those people are two ex girlfriends who are probably exes for a reason. I make no apology.
This game is unironically some of the most fun you can have with couch coop! One of the first games I played with my partner when I was introducing her to video games, we still make inside jokes about it to this day.
This is my favorite of the entire series. It has the right level of cheese, and the right level of fun gameplay. Plus the co-op is some of the best ever made.
I remember first playing RE5 with a friend of mine, and being really confused about the allegations of racism. "I mean yeah, it's a jacked white dude action-movie killing poor Africans, but there's actually a decent spread of races in this town, I think they did a surprisingly good job showing the racial diversity in a modern African town." And then I got to the marsh, fought literal spear-chuckers in animal skins, and said "Ooooh, this is what they were on about."

I gotta say, having never played a Resident Evil game myself and only knowing the plots from the ever-informative Storymodes... RE5's plot sounds about as good as RE7's.
The way I think about it, is that RE characters are as superhero-ish or have as much plot armor as needed for whatever given situation. It’s the warhammer approach to lore. And honestly if you can look past the gimmicky-ness of it, it’s a pretty good way to run a franchise…you want to make a story with a character but they died in an earlier installment? Nah, they survived, throw em in there.
I’ll never forget the racist allegations of resident in 2009. It was so overblown that someone made a parody video of 2008 trailer with Chris being racist and now it has all been forgotten since the games release.
“We we’re going to make a baby with dual citizenship.” Is a line I never thought I’d hear in an RE5 summary but now I can’t stop giggling at the absurdity of how perfectly it fits.
My stepdad used to play this game when I was little and I wanted to play it so bad but my parents didn't let me because of my age. I remember the part at 5:03 very vividly and for roughly the past 10 years I've been trying to figure out what game it was from because neither me nor my stepdad could remember. Now I know! I am still confused as to why Rebecca acts as if she saw zombies for the first time in the first Resident Evil. Or why Capcom thought it would be a good idea to make you drop items all over the map over the item boxes.

She's also a medic so she was never meant to be involved in much combat like Chris and Jill are. Even in her last appearance on the CGI movie, she didn't fight much either. The item drop system is weird, I agree.

You gotta be careful firing RPGs in an enclosed space, or any space where your backblast area isn't clear.
The charge that expels the rocket from the tube will still make a mess of what's behind it (interior of your helicopter) and very likely the people in the helicopter will experience some nasty overpressure. Which can really mess you up.

Despite this game being a huge departure from RE4, I absolutely enjoyed the coop aspect of this game. NEVER play this game with the braindead A.I. , it's the ultimate exercise in frustration. The daytime atmosphere and lighting definitely reduced the scare factor of this game.
Still, I have to thank this game for giving us 1. Boulder punching Chris (which funnily enough was referenced in RE8) and 2. Matrix Wesker, one of the coolest villains in videogames. He wears shades indoors like no one's business and throws ballistic missiles at you with his bare hands.
I loved this game when it came out due to only having co-op memories about it. Even on a solo run it's a great game that is no cheesier than RE4 and gets a bad rep.
It's not as bad as Code Veronica 2 but not as good as RE6.

Unironically one of my most-played games of the Playstation 3 era. It still holds a place in my heart, I don't care how clumsy the whole thing was- it still felt weirdly in-line with everything preceding it.

On the whole "Sheva not getting a resolution" thing; the plan with RE6 was to have an additional Episode (all the campaigns are called episodes from what I can recall) that would center around what Sheva is doing during the RE6 campaign. Unfortunately RE6 was a disaster in the review world so everything except the Agent mode and episode Ada got shitcanned.

my friend and I played this co-op pulling an all-nighter when it first came out. we thought it was hysterical that the game was like 1 hour in Africa (the setting of the game, and the content of all the marketing promotions) then suddenly some alien Mayan temple with laser mirrors and Egyptian hieroglyphs for the rest of the game. also the underground labs: the amount of labor, distribution, and infrastructure required on the surface to sustain such a project would've taken years and required a town's population of contractors, housing, ports, and roads to construct underground, and yet somehow they built it beneath an African slum village without anyone knowing.
It's all in Africa. You start in a town, go to tribal lands (their infection caused them to dress in ancestral clothing) that laso includes their sacred temple grounds, and the end is a mix of a facility left to ruin (built where none would look for it mind you).

Dude in the first hand to hand section of the Wesker fight, you could fire a missile at him, and he would fucking catch it. I kid you not pulling out the big guns that would one shot every other boss and he caught it, blew my mind. You can also shoot the missile in his hands for a kinda two step process to blow him up. but, grinding that game and having Wesker whoop you up and down after 8 hours of finally getting to him . on the first play through with a friend trying to beat him. Having that moment of , I have you now you sob. Knowing that every RE game boss respects the rocket launcher one hit just to watch a Wesker fucking catch it? Well I respected the character after that.
Also the Volcano fight has a special scene if you are out of ammo. Chris holds him and Sheva stabs though the boss and hits Chris a bunch. You can like kill your own friend trying to finish the boss was special. Because at the point it was just a panic of “GET HIM!! DON’T WORRY ABOUT ME GET HIM!!”
Maybe it was the sleep deprived grind with a friend but that dumb boss fight was really special to me.

I gotta say, having never played a Resident Evil game myself and only knowing the plots from the ever-informative Storymodes... RE5's plot sounds about as good as RE7's.
Chris in 5 is 100% superhuman. He is almost as strong as some of the weaker depictions of Wolverine.
The way I think about it, is that RE characters are as superhero-ish or have as much plot armor as needed for whatever given situation. It’s the warhammer approach to lore. And honestly if you can look past the gimmicky-ness of it, it’s a pretty good way to run a franchise…you want to make a story with a character but they died in an earlier installment? Nah, they survived, throw em in there.

Don´t skip the spin-offs. Gun Survivor 1&4 have INSANE plots and are short so you could do a double bill. Grind House Style.
