FujiFilm X-S20 Video Focus Issues! Normal or Defective? FW: 1.11

- Test this the exact same way with your camera, I used the Kit lens 2.8-4 OIS len at 18mm focal length. Camera (v1.11) and Lens (3.24) all have newest firmware. I reset movie mode, reset photo mode and reset settings. Filmed in 4K 29.97fps but same weak focus results at 1080P.

I reached out to another UA-cam reviewer AND to the Fuji Guys (Fuji Rep) the consensus:
This is normal focus for this camera under this certain condition

This video is with the kit lens newest firmware and camera newest firmware 1.11 at the time of recording, now 1.13 and focus is the same for "high contrast" tested here, the improvement to 1.13 is low contrast.
Hey there! I just wanted to say that I may have found the solution. btw this is on the x-s20 as I have one too.
I'm sure you know that the xs20 has 4 custom settings, and on each setting they have a photo mode and movie mode
(There should be a setting called "CUSTOM MODE SETTING"), in here you can choose whether you want the custom setting to be a still or a movie. you can change all the settings u want in the still mode (like any film simulations), but it wont affect the movie mode tho (so if you want to use a specific film simulation you're going to have to input the settings again).
The main thing is, in the custom movie mode, you're actually able to change the focus mode from af-c to mf or af-s, its weird that the standard movie mode on the dial doesn't allow you to do this, but its something I just learned and I hope it helps.
I can change those focus settings in movie mode through the camera menus. Thank you for your comment, maybe I missed something that custom mode does that could be useful but I have since found out ways around the focus issues.
Since this video I actually had a web 1 on 1 teams conference with one of the Fuji guys and confirmed what I show here and confirmed also what I found out about focus.

Since this video we are now on firmware 1.13 which fixes a glitch in patch 1.12 which I experienced last week and 1.13 has some more focus improvements which actually don't help at all on high contrast items like I showed on this video.
I was unable to see any issues. Seems to be in focus to me.
@@GolfDuff the high contrast logo was flickering in and out of focus. Firmware 2.01 was really really bad for autofocus so bad I went back to Sony. The issue was fixed in firmware 3.0 released june 26 2024 bought had already changed over and had a buyer for my Fujifilm X-S20 cameras (both of them). Wonderful camera actually, only wanted to only sell one but they wanted all or nothing
@@GolfDuff the best auto focus firmware for the X-S20 was 1.40 i believe. Really really good focus

I never used a Fuji camera for video. The hype and look at the amazing focus made it sound great. No reviewer ever shows a test like this and I made a video showing this problem and 3 people said this camera is amazing, your settings are wrong. I think they either believed the others were right so I must be wrong, they never tested like this or they are a part of the Fuji marketing team.
@@sparketech i have never used it too. But according of UA-cam reviews about previos Fuji cameras it’s still unreliable to use af-c. And we all have different criteria for declaring what is good or bad. For me it’s not so bad that you showing at this video , for you is opposite.
@@mex5341 I was using continuous autofocus... I found a way to make it focus well but it requires a small touch to focus area with high speed tracking and focus speed. Doing tech Reviewer that is hard to work with, it isn't good for everyone. I would have rather got a Sony A6700 for my use case but this is better in different ways. Sony you pretty much have to set your color temp, with this camera I am very well off letting it do it's own thing

this lens does not have very good opinions :)
I also used the XF23 and XF33mm 1.4 WR lenses with the same results. I would love to know if there is a better option that allows lots of light
