I agree. Shouldn’t be that expensive. I bought the MacBook Air, because I literally had no time to choose. It works flawlessly with those “not so great” specs and it’s quite a fast machine. I’m using three adobe softwares on it and Blender 3D. I am gonna be working from a hard-drive as well. Most Apple products are amazing quality and I trust the products, but not the developers. But price-wise, I don’t agree with. Their products are so amazing to the extent where they purposely mess and slow down certain devices for money. It’s horrible.
Right now the black 256gb version is 999 ($300 off) at like Best Buy and Amazon so I got it last week and it’s incredible! I went from an HP pavilion for 5 years to this and I’m blown away, screen is bright and very good picture and the touchscreen doesn’t feel cheap, really good investment for anyone looking to upgrade, would highly recommend after a week of using!
Unfortunately, lack of thunderbolt 3 is an inexcusable omission in 2018. I don't like the Air either for it's bad keyboard, dimly lit screen and low end processor.
It's physically impossible for it to have Thunderbolt 3. There aren't enough PCIe lanes for it. However, the brand new Whiskey Lake chips have enough of em. The problem is, it's a brand new chip. Or, Microsoft could get rid of Surface Connect to free up lanes. Yeah, that won't happen.
I have a MacBook Pro however there is no touch screen no face unlock and the keyboard isn’t the best, considering the discounts you can get on the surface range of products they are starting to become more and more tempting.
You can attach a surface pen to surface laptop - it will stick just in few points and won't hold very well though. You can take notes on screen by rotating it manualy in settings at 180°.
I think that a lot of these tech reviewers fail to realize that traditional USB and a display port are way more useful for the average person in the average work place than USB C is. It will be years before the projectors and accessories I use are USB C.

Can you review the Official Microsoft USBC Adapter. It supposedly adds a full usbc port to surface products, and charging, including 4k60, 1000MBS transfer speed, dock compatibility? Most have no products that demand usbc, as usbc was created to increase dongle sales, once companies take away the other ports. it's a scam, except for tb3, as usb a is just as fast, display port, can also match it with video.
USB-C comes in different flavors: PowerDelivery/Charging, Video (DP), USB 2.0, 3.0 or 3.1 which can be "mixed and matched and Thunderbolt which has it all. The most interesting is Thunberbolt - but who needs it? An eGPU which costs as much as a second PC who WILL have better cooling? 10 GB Ethernet? Why doesn't someone (Apple please) make a super large trackpad that supports pencil input? Then you could have the advantages of a laptop with type input, but also have the advantages of being able to take handwritten notes on the trackpad (which would be more comfortable than reaching to write on the screen). Is there a big technological problem with this that I don't see?
Actually the way you are thinking when you will implement it you will see, it kinda feels weird and doesn't add much value. Rather could be distracting mess. Of course I am talking about today's technology. Apple could make something fundamentally different and fix that 🤷🏾♂️
Rajarshi Ghoshal I don't agree. I teach physics for a living and one of the biggest things holding back my students from getting full use out of their Mac laptops is the lack of Apple Pencil type functionality to write equations, draw diagrams, etc. when they take notes and solve problems. If the ENTIRE area in front of the keys were a trackpad AND a writeable surface for the Apple Pencil, they could easily switch between typing and writing. I would actually prefer that to reaching up to write on the screen. BTW, the iPad is currently not a solution for this. The iPad with Apple Pencil is a great tablet. But it is not, in its current formulation, a good computer. If Apple were to create a new operating system for the iPad (PadOS) that had a file management system like the Mac's finder, plus other desktop like functionalities that took advantage of the iPad's awesome hardware, perhaps an iPad would be a solution for my students.
Yes iPad is kinda overpowered! Idk why apple don't using more powerful os on it, it is actually really powerful enough to handle normal os, not at the level of MacBook Pro though, but still will done most of the jobs as chromebooks do. Yes, in that case you pointed out it may be a big deal. But apple mostly targets different consumers like business people, content creators, programmers etc. So for them having a touchscreen is not a good idea considering a touchscreen needs more protection and all its almost useless rather could add pain in some cases.
And to be honest all those touch and type laptops that are currently available sucks. I tried them and they are just some marketing hype in my eyes. They don't have as good touchscreen experience as a entry level android has probably! Someone could innovate here and gain advantage!
