Solo Go shove a chip in that chassis with a 15 or 25 watt TDP and see what happens. The I5 8210y that’s in the MacBook Air cost $289 by intel so if it were possible to add a more powerful chip without the thermal issues I’m sure $289 that went into the Y chip could have gone into something with like 8 threads. EDIT: You want a more powerful chip? Apple will need to make it thicker and have 2 fans like the Pro. They will not do that with the Air because it’s focused on battery life, thinness, and portability. Power is not what its purpose is for.

I wish Apple would offer the Air with the option of an i7 or U processor, or I wish they would offer the Pro without TouchBar but with Touch ID (keyboard layout like the Air) with the 8th gen processors.

@@skeldpt4506 Well I have had the MacBook Pro 13' (2017) for 1.5 years and had no problems with the keyboard. I put a $1 case on it that I can't even feel and had no problems. Absolutely love the laptop.

Would've loved something like this in the 80's though when I ran an addiction service, it was big boxy computers and dot matrix printers then, gawd I'm showing my age now, how far technology has come since those years! I have an iMac and the gen 2 MacBook Air. There’s nothing wrong with the air and it still runs perfectly but I’m fancying an update, do you think it’s worth the upgrade? Since I have an iMac I don’t think I’ll need the MacBook Pro because I use the air solely for studying and maybe playing the odd game and watching movies when I’m not home.

MacBook air is rooted in collective mind ;) so updating an old model without consistency in the lineup makes sense for Apple... The new air to me is the MacBook 12, very portable! Updated it's going to be great. There's only a chocolate bar weight difference between the 13" pro and air. I personally think that for 120gr added, gorgeous flat design space grey touch bar and maxed specs make the pro is a much better value. It's more versatile. Less battery but doesn't take for ever for heavy tasks. I think the price point for the air should be 999. Lower price for the 12 than what it is... The fact that the new pro can do what the 15 did last year allows creatives to pick the smaller package! Finally... We love efficiency and a large screen but portability changes life ;)
The macbook air 2018 Facetime Camera is HORRIBLE. It is not a 720 HD camera like Apple is trying to sell. It is inexcusable to have a 480 quality camera on a $1500 computer. Returning my Macbook Air today.

The first MacBook Air was not the first ultrabook, subnetbook, or whateverbook. Not by a long shot. It was perhaps the most successful, but not the first. As with most Apple products.

I just updated mine. I don't notice a big difference but the brightness is actually more than enough for me, I'm mostly using it indoor with 70 percent, just when I'm out I turn to full brightness and that is enough for using it even in a sunny day :)

You can add more storage with an external hard drive. But you would need a dongle to connect it to the Air. The new Air doesn't have the classic USB A ports anymore. I bought the old model (2017 Air) new in July. Which has 2 USB ports and a card reader. Slotted a 400 gb sd card into it. And with the 256 gb SSD I have plenty of space for all my files. In your case if you need some more space I'd recommend getting the new Air but get one with a 256 gb SSD. 128 gb isn't that much and fills up quickly. And use cloud storage to make backups of your documents.

Granted Apple has several inconsistencies but I don't think this is one of them. Their eventual plan seems to be Macbook 12 / 13 inch be the first computers to switch to ARM with A series chips as sort of an experimental thing where the Pro series isn't affected too much by it. This is something they've done in the past with iBooks (Power PC), and Macbooks (intel based). Not to mention, back when Apple reintroduced Macbook line in 2015, it featured new very experimental ideas such as a single USB-C port, multiple color options, removal glowing apple logo, larger force touch solid state track pad and butterfly gen 1 keyboard. All ideas that were totally bizzare for 2015 notebooks, but now reflect most modern macs of 2018. So, in 2 years time Apple will have a line up of Intel based Air and Pro, and ARM based Macbook that will make a lot more sense. Followed by 3-5 year transition period where they'll have Air, Pro with both alternatives of Intel and Arm, until inevitable switch to ARM.

Yashpal Saimbi On the keyboard side, Apple’s 2nd gen butterfly keyboard is on the MBP 2017 non touch bar. It has a lot of issues. Look for it on the internet. Apple claims they made changes to it by releasing the 3rd gen butterfly keyboard. MBA 2018 has the 3rd gen keyboard. If you want to have a keyboard that will not have issues in the long run, go for the MBA 2018. As a writer, I bought the MBA 2018 since it has a longer battery life and I really don’t do 4k editing all the time. If I have more money I’d buy the MBP 2018 with touch bar since it has 3rd gen keyboard. I’m really scared of that keyboard issue so I still bought some keyboard protector. They’d say MBA 2018 is overpriced but I love the MacOS and I’ve been using it ever since. MBA 2018 is good for me.
My friend has 2015 air and runs xcode, android studio, anacondaruby on rails, CS:GO. He's got no problems,only space as he got 128model. Keep in mind this model has much better perfomance.

Not to mention, back when Apple reintroduced Macbook line in 2015, it featured new very experimental ideas such as a single USB-C port, multiple color options, removal glowing apple logo, larger force touch solid state track pad and butterfly gen 1 keyboard. All ideas that were totally bizzare for 2015 notebooks, but now reflect most modern macs of 2018.
So, in 2 years time Apple will have a line up of Intel based Air and Pro, and ARM based Macbook that will make a lot more sense. Followed by 3-5 year transition period where they'll have Air, Pro with both alternatives of Intel and Arm, until inevitable switch to ARM.

MacBook Pro with the 560X is not a maxed out MacBook Pro. The maxed out is the one with the Vega 20 GPU instead of the 560X.

I have see it all. I am a casual user who wants to buy a MacBook. Which one should I buy between the MacBook Pro 2017 non Touch Bar or the MacBook Air 2018
Yashpal Saimbi On the keyboard side, Apple’s 2nd gen butterfly keyboard is on the MBP 2017 non touch bar. It has a lot of issues. Look for it on the internet. Apple claims they made changes to it by releasing the 3rd gen butterfly keyboard. MBA 2018 has the 3rd gen keyboard. If you want to have a keyboard that will not have issues in the long run, go for the MBA 2018.
As a writer, I bought the MBA 2018 since it has a longer battery life and I really don’t do 4k editing all the time. If I have more money I’d buy the MBP 2018 with touch bar since it has 3rd gen keyboard. I’m really scared of that keyboard issue so I still bought some keyboard protector.
They’d say MBA 2018 is overpriced but I love the MacOS and I’ve been using it ever since. MBA 2018 is good for me.

My friend has 2015 air and runs xcode, android studio, anacondaruby on rails, CS:GO. He's got no problems,only space as he got 128model. Keep in mind this model has much better perfomance.

Actually no. Apple is never the choice if you’re a coding student in college, most of the app that teacher recommend you to use is windows.
