In this video, we'll show you how you can drag and drop a .dll file for a VST plugin to install it on your Windows Music Computer running Windows 7.
Depending on your host application, this could be setup differently, but most of the time, your VST plugins will be on your c:\ drive in the Program files directory.

Shoutout to this 2011 video for helping me solve a 2022 problem
Thank you so much. Small issues like this can be so hard to find a solution for and luckily it didn't take long till I found your video and it fixed my problem. It was trying to scan the wrong folders and I ended up making a folder and naming it myself so I can direct all my plugins there. And have Ableton automatically scan that folder for new plugins
Glad to help, thank you!
Oh my gosh freaking THANK YOU! I really needed this visual and appreciate it so much! lol
THE ONLY video that I've come across so far about this which I've actually found to be usefull
Thankyou so much
Thanks, please sub for more!
Thanks, Brian! You're still helping guys like me out a decade later!

Please sub for more.

Thank you so much man, I have deleted a lot of plugins that didn't have a setup, you are a life saver man👊
you got it, thank you for watching!
this is probably one of the best videos ever made its still use full !!!!!
Thank you! This is the ONLY video I've found that actually explains this - rather than assuming that if I don't already know all this stuff, then I'm obviously not cool enough to deserve the information! (Which is odd, because I've been programming computers on & off since the early 80s, & I'm NOT stupid - I'm just not familiar with these programs & how they work. Thanks again! Rikki Tikki.
This is great Brian. Good to see so many getting the help they needed over so many years now! I’m here to try and figure out what to do with the .MSE files that come with a lot of VSTs in a separate folder nested in with the VST. I believe they carry the actual sound info but not sure where they need to be stored when doing a manual install? Thanks if you can help!

Thanks - I was trying to use Air Hybrid 3 (free with Akai MPK Mini2) along with Ableton on a Win 10 PC and this is exactly what I needed. It got installed in the Steinberg Folder. So all I did was to goto Ableton > Options > Preferences > Plugins & change the Folder location. Cheers

I think its time to start organizing the trainwreck that is called documents... thank you for bringing clarity. Happy holidays man!
this was great. thank you!
OMG THANK YOU SO MUCH DUDE I HAVE BEEN STRUGGLING
Are you sure audition is looking at your VST directory where your VSTs are installed?
Thank you, this is exactly what I was looking for!
Yo can you select the plugin for your mic input? Im tryna get it to go through the plugin and have the plugin as the mic output
@@Swordonator I'm pretty sure plugins are mostly for after you've already recorded something. So, if you record something with your mic, you can then put the plugin over the audio for the desired effect.
Excellent tutorial video. Thanks.
thanks man still works in 2020
You could always create one, sure! Any folder is fine.
Thank you so much. Saved my day in 2021
I think it wasnt confusing.. and was easy as water drops.
Thanks bro
Thank you bro🔥🔥
Thank you so much!!! It did work and took less than 5 minutes!

Thank you so much, please sub for more!
OBEDIA of course really helped me out in a huge way
Dude I've been trying to find a video this descriptive thanks for also saying why
Welcome!
Audition 3.0 (and CS2) asks for a bit more like for instance scanning for and enabling plugins after what OT indicates up there which certainly is daunting as I didnt know if my actions were going to feck up my pc altogether but it worked out as I can see the added vst gear is ready to rock
Great Help. Thank you!
Thanks very much man, it worked perfectly🤛
OMFG! Thank you this really helped!
@cochi256 have you rescanned your VSTs in reaper? Do you have the appropriate VST version installed for your version of Reaper, such as 32/64 bit?

Trying to get Spitfire VSTs in an M1. This may help.
This help me 13 years later!!!! ROUND OF APPLAUSE!!!!
Hi Brian
I’ve done exactly as you’ve shown me
I down loaded keyzone piano vst
And is in programme files as a dll file
The thing is when I boot up Cubase 5 it’s not under vst instruments
Although it went through initialising
I’ve check the signal path also and I think it’s set right
But no joy
Wondering if you could suggest something
Regards Dave
Thanks...nice and clear!
Thank you, random guy on the UA-cam!
So when you install a plug in from the internet for free can you put it in the Steinberg folder or do we have to make a VST folder and whenever we install a vst we have to put it all in there i still dont understand this plug in stuff and what is d.ll what does that even mean
Awesome tutorial. Thanks alot !!
Thanks for watching!
I having issue with my only 3 party VST plugin, Izotope Nectar Elements Plugin not populating with my Ableton live 9 lite seems under my C/programX86 folder, I didn't see a VST label, and maybe even a Steinburg labeled file (but will need to double check) I think its recommended that I don't drag or cut/copy over from a current folder, but to remove and reload the Plugin in the appropriate folder from a clean start (yikes) Have rescan , and set up current pathway (C/program files > x86 default location), still no plugin.
This was super helpful thanks so much, I had a bit of trouble because my VST folder wasnt in program files but I was able to locate it because I had previously installed serum. I don't know shit about computers so this stuff is challenging for me, thanks a bunch!!
thank u so much dude u really helped me!! i suscribed and liked. Thank u
Thanks for the sub!
It's gonna say that because it is a system folder. You can turn it off in your UAC settings I believe.
Thanks you so much, I didn't actually know that program files (x86) was for 32 bit.... Live saver 🙌 ❤
Glad I could help!
thank u so much. it really helped
How do you re scan with windows
you scan in the configurations inside the daw.
Very useful video!
Move these plug-ins to the "Plug-Ins (Unused)" folder?
Bro do you have tutorial how to install keyzone??
