Thank you to Moog for continually expanding the world of synthesis and also just being super chill people. FYI they didn't pay me to make this video but they sent me the synth.

Now I'm remembering why I became a drummer:
1. Pick up sticks.
2. Hit things.
There's nothing better.
ironically drummers are notorious for doing exactly this sort of thing. "ok now i'm going to play a 5:6:7 poly-rhythm. you might notice that this bleeds over the bar line in our 27:16 time signature but i'm going to hit a crash on every 1 beat so that we don't get lost"
@@famitory 7:01 not sure if this example files under polyrhythm or polymetric. Polymetric I guess would be correct. agreed f you can't play a descent 6/8 poly rhythm as a drummer you're definitely not a drummer :)
@@famitory Not this drummer! (You do have a point though!) 😄
So true@@famitory 😅
I WANT IT
*uses it to play the licc against all star in a 7:11 polyrhythm
Bad thing I'm poor haha
That makes two of us
Or you can (kind of) patch it with the modules you already have... ua-cam.com/video/SpsIkhdCuWk/v-deo.html
@@normalpeep5287 u jazz musician too? ;)
my friend, that song you made with this is FIRE
Summery: Moog Subharmonicon = Fire starter
The reference to the Coldest Darkness caught me off guard, I love that album of his so much.
*hello Asian Shrek*
*is it hard being Asian Shrek? cuz both men and women are attracted to you.*
Get that shit on Spotify man! :D
I love how you get this weird quirky synth that people have a hard time understanding, and you're just like "I'm gonna make a dope pop song with it!" Most people would be like "I made a bleep bloop."
"I made a bleep bloop."
Couldn't have said it better
Every composition I make.
I love how I will buy some like the DFAM, Mother 32 and probably this but then it will Fox me for months, purely based on how well people like Andrew make them sound.
I must concede that in fact lack any musical talent.
But I'm proud of my bleep bloop
I put my bleep boops into my looper, then turn them into music with my guitar.
Gotta make them bleep bloops.
Holy crap, that lighting and videography at the end...my mind is blown. Even though your channel is mainly about music, your visuals are also spectacular.
Yeah, I can't imagine all the work that goes into these. Great stuff.
"Moog Subharmonicon" sounds like a spell from Harry Potter or something.
sounds like something i would name my cat.
@@dby20 You could then tell people that it's a spell that summons your cat lol
m. mesi *lmao*
Lmaooooooo
It's for making Music To Moog By.
Am I the only one who actually likes Andrew's hair like this
you’re not the only one.
It looks like old andrew
Lord Bumbo I like it too 💖
I love it
Hes balding
1:07
Even Andrew's quarantine hair is flawless
Looks 10x better than my hair has ever looked
I like that the corona hair is in the music video
I love how you had a real-life sample of how to use this in a song.
I can't even front, but these legitimately sounded amazing, Andrew
*why are you everywhere i go*
have you considered growing a moustache?
Thanks so much for watching! Got a giveaway going for another few days - will be mailing lots of music gear to winners anywhere in the world :) gleam.io/ZZNHd/andrew-huangs-april-2020-giveaway
hey dude
i only put one entry and its impossible that i would win something
I get nervous everytime you shake that synth in the video xD
About the lighting.....
Yes. Very much a yes
wow, i expected a lot more replies by now.
I finally understand why undertone adds a darker sound, the harmonics naturally fall into a minor chord. You're really helping a traditional musician understand how these electric boxes make music
Andrew, I think I'm talking for every fan of your channel, THANKS FOR POSTING SO MUCH THESE TIMES WE REALLY APPRECIATE IT
well said.
hey dude, i accidentally went to your channel and saw your alone cover... nice cover dude.
@@dby20 Omg thak you!!! I'm a young dude trying to start in music production and be a better musician for my band! 💛
Saku *nice*
You peaked my curiosity@@dby20 ...and YES, that cover was awesome.
This channel single handedly has gotten me back into producing music.
I’m so glad Andrew has been posting more often :)
YESSS!! ANDREW keep it up please!
I'm so glad he calls it MOOG and not MOOG.
0:06 fully expected to hear "WEIRD GEAR" there for a bit XD
I got barely halfway through this video and was already breaking out my credit card, thank you so much Andrew! 😘
woah this guys fucking famous lmao
such a good oscillator......it would be like a free real estate for glitchy songs ..
loved it andrew
Love or hate Moog, you know two things for certain when you get one: the oscillators are dope, and the filter is legendary.
In case Moog is keeping track, this is not the first review video I've watched for this module but the only one that induced me to fly over to Perfect Circuit and buy one.
i'm absolutely blown away whenever andrew decides to treat us to one of his little music video things, it's stuff like that that makes this my favourite youtube channel. stunning visuals to go with the beautiful music gives my brain so much serotonin :)
The song at the end might just be one of my favourite songs you've made Andrew, I NEED this on my spotify library!!!
OMG ANDREW HEARTED MY COMMENT!!! I CAN DIE HAPPY NOW!
it seems i'm subscribed to almost everyone who got one of these to review and gotta say your video gave me the best idea of what this thing is capable of. great as always, thanks.
I am loving the number of uploads THANK YOUUUUU!!!
Visuals: Stunning
New Song: Stoked
Just a quality video
9:30 is why I pre-ordered one of these things. Beautiful subharmonics coming from Moog oscillators? With polyrhythm and quantization? And just/ET tuning?! And a 32-point patch bay?!?
I'M ALL ABOUT IT.
Just intonation, polyrhythms and negative harmony?
This synth was built for Jacob Collier.
It's the beggining of the Collier's era
@fouccodefire I hope you mean that as a compliment
Bruh, you’re always showing me things I didn’t know I absolutely needed.
”So I got this synth yesterday, and I have no idea what it is, so I made some patches, and then I made a song and recorded a music video, after that I recorded an album and went on a world tour and then I became governor and now I’m kicking back writing my memoirs.
Wtf
Now I'm waiting for a synth cover of Meshuggah's Bleed.
That drum thing was actually mind-blowing, though
I liked the lighting and this was one of the first synth videos I’ve actually fully understood! I’m more experienced with traditional instruments but your explanations are getting me really into synths!
I give Andrew a high five every intro.
Heaven is where Andrew uploads a video every couple days
Would you invite Adam Neely for an episode of 4 producers one sample? He already said he’d be down, I would love to see that
Loving the hair. Loving the lighting. Loving the beats!
That distorted drum sequence was amazing
Andrew has mentioned Jacob and Adam, *_my life is complete_*
I've learned more about music in the last 3 videos you've done than the last 25 years of life. Thank you for explaining music theory in such a way that non-music folks can understand it (at least at the surface level)!
I am like that candle flame at the end -- BLOWN AWAY! Thank you, Andrew, for one of the best demos on the Interwebs. I love that song you made with it and the video that goes with the song. Well done!!!
It feels so lame to scroll to the end of this video just to hear a portion of a song every other hour but I literally cannot stop myself. It's so great, I'd really love to hear the ending!
The third sound of the intro gives me that feeling that modular does a lot, where you get the sense you're hearing the actual "voice" of the machine, like what it would be if you weren't listening.
Why does it have to be 700🤧
Because Moog recycles ancient technologies to make you worship a false god. Having said that, the One is awesome.
If you have a Maths module in your Eurorack setup, you already have a much cheaper subharmonicon. Loopop has made a video on how to set it up
@@Vincent-jv1pp Sort of, it gives you one sub, but not two per voice, and then you'd need more Maths to divide the clocks... It's sort of like a bunch of Maths all crammed together. I would pay to just have that sequencer on its own, as long as it could do audio rate.
Nice song at the end!
Honestly, synths and modules like this have often come off as a bit overwhelming. But you really broke things down with this one, and it was in a way that was super easy to understand. Not to mention, also taking time to explain subharmonics. Thanks, Andrew!
your on a roll, loved all of your recent videos, never stop
9:40 "Wtih"
Btw the song at the end is incredibly good.
Dude, this is amazing. Your song, the device, everything. I wanna get one, but I feel like I'm too "stupid" for it. You gotta really understand a lot of stuff about music to be able to create pieces like this
What a fantastic walk through and song at the end! One of your best videos yet.
Great to watch you with this Andrew. I'm loving playing with mine and you've sparked a few ideas I hadn't had yet. Thanks!
That new song is Synthwave HEAVEN
Explains an instrument, while casually creating the summer hit of 2020 in the process...Yup, it's Andrew Huang alright
I love the new editing stuff with the throwing the guitar on the wall and blowing out the lights
I’m learning more music theory in these videos than in my music classes and I’m loving it
Can we take an moment to appreciate his effects and camera work? \(*0*)/
11:45 that distortion beat was so sick!
This is the only demo that actually explains how this works. Nicely done Andrew!
I am standing and applauding your demonstration of this amazing gizmo.
14:13 I seem to hear a different quality voice in the refrain here. Like you're singing more from your diaphragm, giving the tone/timbre a bit more power. I like it!
And FYI: 3 over 5 sounds absolutely dope!
this synth is epic and *really* versatile, it could make some beautiful pad jams and then all of a sudden just BLSKSJSHDJDDK blast you with harsh noise wall, i-... i love this thing
*same here.*
Hey Andrew, I watched this video a while back and it helped inspire me to grab a Subharmonicon and I have now scratching the surface enough to add her into my compositions. Thanks for being the heat!
Nice video - finally, a well produced gear video that goes beyond reciting the manufacturer's promotional material. Thank you sir.
Andrew you are amazing! Love the in depth synth reviews. I’ve been a touring musician for 17 years, but that all stopped with the pandemic. You inspired me to start making music on UA-cam instead.
Nice! Loss of live music really sucks but its also inspiring to see all the other ways musicians are creating
@@musicfun6756 Totally. It's looking like it's going to be a while before shows happen again. Gotta find a way to keep making music
I don’t know why everyone says there are 6 oscillators. The sub oscillators are not independent, it’s “just” a multiplier followed by a divider circuit, the oscillator input is one. This doesn’t mean the value and sound of this unit is divided too ;) but it’s not a 6 oscillators unit.
The whole music video was so professional! Lovin all of this Andrew!
Love how you set this video up with the previous one. Got game. Dope synth, thanks for the preview
Wow. Way to end a video. When are you releasing that song? This is legit. And yes the light's great... (but seriously I keep coming back and listening) 13:28
So you’re saying the undertone series produces a minor 6 chord on the 4th scale degree, aka the minor plagal which has an equivalent but opposite sense of gravity to the V7?
{Jacob Collier has entered the chat}
This is one of those videos I can refer back to multiple times at different points of my life and learn new things every time
The lighting is amazing ! And thank you for the breakdown on the moog!
Andrew explaining music science
me : the LED s on that midi keyboard is sickk
yeeeeeeeeeeeees
haha yeah that in the background
Arturia Keystep Pro :)
If you added a 9 sting over that, you'd have Mick Gordon
Great to see you making more videos man! I always enjoy learning your tips n tricks
My life is complete, Andrew uploaded 4 times in one week
4 TIMES
14:59 sounds like death grips
Yeah, the interview ep xD
Your "Quarantine hair" is definitely better looking than mine ...
I have never had my mind blown that many times so quickly in sequence.
LOVED the lighting. And everything else, as always
andrews outgrown hair : instant pupil dialation
The World: *QUARANTENE*
Musicians: *major scale noises*

*subharmonic frequencies noises*
Super cool to see that you were one of the first to get your hands on the new model. Really interesting synth.
Hey Andrew, love your music and vids, good to see you back making more vids.
sounds like something deadmau5 would use to create an intro! so sick!
also, i like the new hairstyle!
that’s actually pretty acurate
deadmau5 uses A LOT of polyrythms (watch dylan tallchief vid! )
@@portemanteau3802 i've seen it haha! that's why when andrew mentioned polyrhythms he instantly came to mind lol
@@dizzyyy_ me too! I'm such a moron when it comes to complex rythms...
@@portemanteau3802 it's really easy to get down! from experience, i can tell you that simply listening to songs with complex rhythms helps you understand them better!
I wish moog would also make software versions of these!
same, this would be really useful.
The editing for that music video is INSANE! Great stuff as always, my guy.
Even though I've never even touched Audacity, your skills still amaze
Wow. Your lighting and color choice is so amazing! ❤️
Very nice song too. Really enjoyed this one.
When he shows how it can create random chords and then pitched it up it kinda sounded like aril brikha
I'm not as early as I would have liked to be.
i would love to see more of you playing with this machine! you really have a unique and thorough way of exploring gear that really makes sense to me, and is similar to my own creative process. i love your show thank you for always sharing so much useful and fun information as well as your own excitement, being an inspiration for my own motivation often!
This has been the best explanation of a concept that is fairly unfamiliar to a lot of us, and an excellent demonstration of a powerful piece of gear. Thanks for doing what you do!
i want that blinking arturia keystep pro in the background
Sort of off topic, but you should definitely do a 4 producer's one sample thing with Jacob collier
Oh, my! Wouldn’t that be something? Can just hear it. Of course, Neely would be another one. And Pomplamoose! And Mary Spender! The UA-cam Musicking Singularity could happen.
So many videos in such a short time. We are blessed.
Thanks man. Love your vids - well explained, technically solid and fun at the same time. Keep them comin bro
God I wish this thing was less expensive.
it should be less expensive. its a $499 at best synth
As always, I love the unique and inspiring content man! I remember years ago you demoed the "do bass to it" merch and I've been wanting it ever since! Has it been cancelled or can I still hold out a little hope? Thanks!
Ah I just haven’t got my act together with that but thanks for the reminder!!
My oh my!!! You did what? This is AWESOME!!!! Short and sweet. Thank you
Nice instrument. I’m gravitating towards this kind of thing these days, where you don’t fully understand what you’re doing, but it sounds good. You just go with your gut.
3:34
*me, when responding to literally anything and everything during this quarantine*
Looks cool
No one cares
@@dby20 clearly you do tho
holy shit you were
the song at the end was awesome!!!!!! i absolutely crushed the like button at this point
I love how many vids you're putting out these days!
