    Ditto to what so many people said before: your references to the history of the instrument are even more detailed and interesting than the very description on the Moog website. Colour me impressed !

    I have seen a few other tutorials for the Subharmonicon but I believe yours is the first one that explained the reason why a VCO gate could be affected by SEQ that is not assigned to it. I will now stop losing my mind trying to understand this. Thanks for your time to put this video out there.

    Excellent, excellent video! Very comprehensive, and I loved the history! Somebody did their homework 😊
    On your remarks about the lack of an LFO and mixer: I think it's all about context. On its own, yes, I suppose it's a shame SH doesn't have those things. But if you have SH play with friends, like Mother 32, DFAM, or any eurorack module, I think the patch bay is perfect. Things like mixers and LFOs are very common in other equipment and adding them likely would have prevented Moog from giving us a separate output for all six oscillators or allowing modulation of the four rhythm generators, for example. As someone with eurorack gear, and someone who plans on displacing one of his two DFAMs in a case that will ultimately hold each of the three Moog semi-modulars, I think it's perfect the way it is. I can use Maths, VCAs, Planar 2 and Pamela's New Workout to modulate at my heart's content.
    And I think that's what Moog intended: to build a wonderful standalone instrument, but also one whose true potential is unlocked by playing with friends. A gateway drug into modular synths, if you will. The Mother 32 is how I wound up with a 360hp eurorack case and no money, after all 😂

      homeslice1479 glad you liked the video. Yes I agree, it’s great that they have included inputs to modulate the rhythms and outputs for all six oscillators. There is a MIDI in on the patchbay that seems unnecessary. They could have included that separately and maybe have a ‘assign’ customizable output like on the Mother 32. It’s a great synth for working along with other modular synths. Just not a very good standalone modular. The mother 32 on the other hand is a great standalone modular.

    By far the best theory video out there- as someone about to pull the trigger on the SH, thank you! My lack of a Mother 32 doesn’t bother me- I have a Behringer Crave, so identical patch possibilities at a fraction of the cost...

      @@rishabhrajan Something I noticed about the Subharmonicon. If you're playing a sequence on sequencer one, and you have all three oscillators for VCO 1 assigned to sequencer one, and then you turn the volume all the way down for VCO 1, the two suboscillators are still impacted by VCO 1 being assigned to sequencer one. You can still hear VCO 1 mixed in with the two suboscillators, even when VCO 1's volume is off. It's not until you unassign VCO 1 from sequencer one, that the two suboscillators become free and independent. I would have thought turning the volume off for VCO 1 would remove it from the mix, regardless of if it was assigned to sequencer one, or not. Do you know why this is?

    • @rishabhrajan
      @rishabhrajan 4 роки тому +1

      @@F_letc.h So the sub-oscillators are linked to the main oscillator. They derive their pitch from the main oscillator. So if the main oscillator's pitch is changing, that will affect the sub-oscillators. Even if the main oscillator's level is down, you will still hear the pitch changes. That's why I wouldn't really call it three separate oscillators. It's one main oscillator with 2 connected sub-oscillators.

    I can't stand when a product is promoted so much like this (there's a ton of videos on UA-cam already) meanwhile, the product isn't in stock anywhere. It's Pre order only , & if you place a pre order you don't know when you'll get yours because when the shipment arrives at the retailer those few units are probably already sold.

    Yet another train wreck machine that appeals to the people with no musicianship and who fall for the trendy word ''polyrhythms'' Sounds like music to hang yourself by.
    The more recent products from Moog offerl less and less for an increasingly inordinate amount of money.
