That is just an indicator LED he circled. The other thing is a filtering capacitor next to a current limiting resistor. There is another LED and a photo resistor inside the black case that is what is changing resistance as the LED gets brighter. You want to isolate the LEF from any ambient light that could affect the photo resistor to help keep it more consistent. This is one reason you are seeing modules come out with vactrol emulation like the DXG.

Your videos and Joel's (roomieofficial) that have more behind-the-production-scenes content have really sparked my interest. I really want to try making some music on my own. Ngl though, I'm a bit intimidated. My music education (piano) could easily mirror that of someone's from 200 years ago.
That’s a great foundation to dive into music production! I say go for it. There are quite a few free tools out there where you can get your feet wet and start to decide what elements grab your interest. From there, you can “specialize” or continue to explore. Go for it!!!!
definitely go for it! I started with ... just having taken piano lessons 15 years ago, and some chorus. it's been a lot but it's really rewarding to understand what's going on when you get there, and start to make real (even in a small way) some of the musical ideas you have in your head. :)
There's tons of great synth/classical crossover stuff! Listen to Wendy carlos' hooked on bach! Or anything by suzanne ciani! There's plenty of other examples that escape me but those two really are amazing pioneers in synths and especially modular. Ciani helped don buchla design his buchla synths and I believe Wendy carlos helped bob moog with his synths. We likely wouldn't have much of what we have today in the synth world if it weren't for those 2 women alone!
I'm a jazz pianist by training but I took Andrew's course to learn about production and it was super helpful. A few months after the course ended I released an album of folk, rock, and other genres. Once you get started it's easier to keep the momentum going!

All I hear is Mario stomping on a Goomba while maintaining a sick groove.
As always, a very informative, crystal clear video with Andrew's funny sense of humor thrown in. Keep up the great work. I very much enjoy watching and learning from your videos.
Makes me want one, however I would need a bigger house, LOL.
how tf are u keeping up this quality???
@@Bryan_Hagan Cool new space-like pod environment aside, I also want to know.
One the most comprehensive and easy to grasp description of the MNSS ! Kudos for making this piece of beauty accessible to the crowd.
I like the new style you are going for, you are becoming the Kyle Hill of Music UA-cam haha
Just the short descriptions of all the functions of Maths helped me to understand why it is the most versatile module. Thank you
I need to understand the offset he has patched. Ch1 cycling and channel 3 into Optomix?
Look at zetoven (I think that’s how it’s spelled). Classical music production is still music production
Dude that sequence with the pressure points at around 15:29 was got damn beautiful
