I'm living here now for 5 years. The good things are friendly people, great food and a lot of interesting places to visit. The bad? People don't obey the traffic laws, use and throw away too much plastic like they don't care as long as they don't have to hold it. Malaysians don't really seem to understand that this could be a perfect tourist place if they didn't destroy all the nature themselves. I still love this country.

As someone who has worked in Malaysia, (Kuala Lumpur), originally from Botswana 🇧🇼. I can gladly say Malaysia is an awesome country. Interacting with very friendly people (Chinese,Indians,Malays), to the food (Nesi Lemak) which is my favorite and there r many tourist places that I'm still in love with(Genting Highlands, Penang Island, Port Dixon). Unfortunately, I never got the chance to visit Langkawi Island, but I hope to come back again and experience more with my family.

The metropolitan cities, the pristine islands. Yes, it's not perfect, but I've been to many countries and continents, the excitement I feel about Malaysia is UNMATCHED.

I lived in Malaysia for 8 years great place. However the airport needs to recruit more staff especially on a Sunday (been a problem for years).. I've seen multiple posts on linkedin showing 3 hour queues recently. Also, the train is still broken from KLIA to sentral after a year and people are forced to take buses - not a great introduction for international travellers.

While they are everywhere in the street and some of them didn't obey traffic law but still they are the one who will be our samaritan incase of excident/rob happen in the street.

I am currently on holidays in Malaysia for 20 days. I love this city, you will never get bored as there is so much to do and see.
Some of the things Malaysia could improve on as per my opinion are:
    - the pedestrian walkways are really rough and uneven in some parts in the city. Some places as your walking on flat surface it becomes stairs and its really hard to get around when you have a pram or, people in wheelchairs/disability and elderly etc.
    - sometimes there is no crossing areas and you literally have to cross a massive road with so much cars and you could be waiting for so long as the traffic is alot.
-also i agree with the comment about the batu caves being very dirty as I just went yesterday and it was really filthy. This surprising bc i thought places of worship would be very clean.
-grab was a hit and missed for me as well. Its probably my fault as a foreigner not knowing area.
Thats all i could think of. So far i am loving being here, thank to all the lovely Malaysian people for welcoming us to your country.

Our family loved our trip in Malaysia with out kids. Lots of fun places to see and things to do. We loved it so much that we are planning to return this summer. The only major complaint I have about Malaysia was that we found that washrooms were not as clean as it probably should be being a Muslim country. Traveling with kids they have to potty a lot sometimes and there were often times where even the toilet seats were missing (KLCC mall) We found ourselves running around trying to find other washrooms. Toilet paper being completely empty and out of stock. The condition of the washrooms overall was bad in my opinion- especially the water cleaning thing by the toilets. The 2nd biggest one, was the roads and the random sidewalks with the holes in it, random wires hanging in the more rougher parts. It's generally a very beautiful and incredible country, but I would say if these 2 things could be fixed and the overall budget to making it more tourist pleasant Malaysia could attract more tourism. Mind you our trip was at the end 2019 just before covid became official. So things might be different now.

Other places of worship are bloody clean eg Chinese temples, churches, mosques, Sikh temples. But Hindus does not do that. They pray to murugan, shiva in dirty environment. That is what puzzle me. Why can't you respect the environment and god at the same time.
Vlogger Jack Torr really voiced out on his vlog in 2022. I guess most will visit it once only. Shame on the temple committee. We cannot blame the monkeys. They just grab whatever humans bring there. And visitors never learn not to bring food and drinks.

to be honest, I went to Batu Cave 10 years ago & recently a year ago. Sadly the rubbish situation did not improve. I wonder why? I thought maybe because some people are feeding the monkey & left the rubbish there or maybe the monkey went through the garbage bin & scatter the rubbish around? It is sad. I tried to collect the garbage but there was too much garbage. The local government need to step up in managing this garbage situation. I dare say Batu Cave is the dirtiest tourist attraction in Malaysia ngl.

Hosting a Successful International Event: One of the best moments in Malaysia in 2023 was the successful hosting of a major international event, such as the World Economic Forum or a global sporting event. Malaysia's ability to organize and manage such a large-scale event showcased its capabilities on the global stage. The event not only attracted world leaders, prominent figures, and participants from various countries but also brought significant economic and cultural benefits to Malaysia. i have been back and forth to Malaysia for over 20+ years, China town (ONLY only hit there once - very old fashioned tourists spot) and BUKIT Bintang (not more than 6-8 times, 2 times in the recent visit in Feb 2023 for the AMAZING Syrian Foods, Solely for the reasons of good foods - other than that - if you go around that area - will find it boring if you are not interested in Luxury Brands shops and jammed traffic all the times almost -most Malaysian living in other areas are not keen to go include cab and Grab drivers - i guess).....Other than that , visiting any where outside the core KL, and other towns and cities Like: Penang, Ipoh, Cameron Highland - and the plantation and tea plantation there (you will find your in certain part of country side of England suddenly - quite intersting) etc etc should be giving you a different and more genuine feel / impression and u and understanding of Malaysia. Not surprising to have the experience of the Danish couple if they stayed mainly in core KL and going around Bukit Bintang and China Town only if they did). Personally, I will say - The closest and de facto China town is the suburb: Petaling Jaya (better search for more about that place and do stay the hotels there (tons of very good BNBs) and hotela there, very convenient (much less packed) easy to go around (very easy to go around - by Grab(local Uber)...from there - most of the tourists (even in Asia) miss to find that place. Regardless of which ethic groups (all Grab drivers ever met, very nice and give you and 100% sense of safety)! (TheGrab - local Uber system is tightly regulated by the Malaysian government by though exams, background and health check on the driver to get and keep the license to operate Grab)

I hope Malaysian Hindus would take a huge note of complains on one of their famous temples.
If the government or authority being tied with birocracy etc…then the Hindu community must do something to ensure Batu Cave is not being seen as a mirror image of dirty, filty kind of place.
This is your sacred temple and the faithful Hindus should feel very ashamed with so much negative contents on youtube and media.
If we watched those youtube videos covering places of worship in Malaysia, be it Buddhist temples, Gudwara or muslim mosques…all were given a huge thumb up in term of cleanliness but hindu temple in Batu Cave has been in the very bad light.
Malaysia government must really look into this and the right thing to do by the Hindus is….get your hands dirty to ensure Batu Cave is clean and properly managed. Your religion’s reputation at stake here.

Also, I don’t think the government and the municipal council will spend money to hire cleaners. Yeah, I used the AirAsia app to book a ride to the airport in Penang. It was half the price of a regular taxi and was prompt.
      There is plenty of choice.

No earthquake, no hurricane, no guns(you can safely walk at night), less alcohol, less crime, less racism, cheap food & accomodation and affordable transport fares etc etc
But....still there are malaysians not that thankful to all of the above.

There's a lot of petty crime in Malaysia, also it isn't really safe walking at night at least for women. Depends on areas. Less racism is just total bs, Malaysia is one of the most racist country in the world. Institution racism not social.
