I was born in Melbourne , lived in NSW and permanently moved to Malaysia 6 years ago. Haven’t looked back since. For me, every single experience I’ve had is incredible, and I speak the BM language and assimilated with locals. I mingle with expats here and there. Malaysia always felt like home and felt wanted, as in Australia I never did

Lived in Malaysia from 2009 to 2013, before I came back to Canada, travelled to many countries worldwide but to me Malaysia is the best place I've ever been to, while watching this dude talking it reminds me of the peaceful moment and serenity i used to have there,
God willing next year will go again for a short visit and hopefully to be able to go back to this beautiful place at least once a year .

My ex boss finished his working contract in Malaysia and return 6 month later to work here with his new job and making Malaysia his new home. He's been happy ever since with his hobby going camping and 4x4 adventure. No stress.

As a Singaporean, I agree. Malaysians are really our cousins and I have many close relatives there.
Singapore is unbeatable in terms of efficiency, stability and safety but it comes at the price of things being a little too structured and rigid. (the really small size of Singapore unfortunately necessitates such measures).
Malaysia is a whole lot more fun to live in, it straddles a nice balance of adventure, some unpredictability BUT pretty high quality of living.
Its not chaotic but its also not that 'stiflingly' orderly. Its comfortably in the middle, its actually mentally healing.

'Family Friendly' yup you nail it, people came to Malaysia with family as compared to Thailand usually for singles and bachelors because of other reasons that i would not list it in here. Actually Malaysian are very family oriented and you definately felt it already.

Malaysians are born to understand different English accents, trust me on this one. Because we are a melting pot for expats to come here to work and live, we have different nationalities, from Japanese, Korean, Thais, Ozzy, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Philippines, Indonesia, Vietnamese, India, Morocco, Turkiye, Russians, etc, where everyone have their own English accents.
And yes, we are more laid back, suitable to raise a family or for retirement, not all nightlife crazy like our neighbors, Thailand or Philippines.
A little bit of this, a little bit of that, a little bit of everything, that's what we really are.
Fusion, non fusion, spicy, not spicy, local dish, international dish, easily get it in just a place.
For instance, you don't have non-western country with the best street food burger except Malaysia. And that too, can be found in every nooks and corners even in a smaller city, or some random village. Same goes if you're looking for local fried fritters, or fries or KFC styled fried chicken, churros and donuts, even the Japanese takoyaki and the Korean fried chicken can be found almost everywhere in Malaysia 🤭
The tolerance and acceptance levels are no just the people's manners or friendliness, that even translated into food, the easy access of getting all these different cultures food. Or even how we bonded with people from different nations or having different background and cultures, the diversity here, that's help us all be "color blind", something that we're proud about, all the time.
If there's anything wrong with the country, it's probably the politicians catfight. That's all. We even live our normal life as usual when there's no government for 2 weeks in 2020 🤭 everyone goes to work, attend schools, went out and watched movies, hang out with friends, no riot whatsoever. Very safe actually.
So yeah, please do enjoy Malaysia, the people, the culture, the food, the natures. The imperfect place where it is perfect to raise childrens 😊

@orly lieza if that happened in other country, the military might took over the government. We are fortunate to have YDPA who can control things while the politicians sort out themselves
If will be perfect country if the politician is not the appointed Ministers. I worked with GLC and those 2 weeks we can't do much since we need them to decide on crucial matters. But I truly love if politician only stays at parliament and constitutions and the government day to day is taken care by public

Nothing is perfect. One can only find perfection in an imperfect world. And that is Malaysia 🇲🇾 , truly Asia. Everything you mentioned is true and spot on. Not all foreigners or expatriates in or been to Malaysia could do such awesome analytical assessments as you both did. That’s why we love ❤️ our country so much. It’s unique to have everything in one country or such convenience or accessibility. Malaysia’s education system is using British English. So no worries, we can understand Australian English 😊

Im malaysian i love everything about my country..the food,people,culture etc except the salary earnings..its low compared to singapore..let alone Australia..but its enough although i hope i can earn more..despite low salary..malaysian r not taught to be beggars..we still need to work hard..if u find beggars or kids selling flowers or asking money while carrying babies..those r not Malaysian..
but it cost less to live, thats the thing with australia, you need a high salary just to afford to live

There are poor Malaysian that begs on the streets too but we don't really know their real story whether they still have family members or all alone or just trying to survive in the big city. But there's no beggars in smaller towns so I think most of them are probably people who tried to find good jobs in the city but still failing somehow...
Yeah, I agree the salaries need to be 40% - 50% higher for all professions and all levels then, I think Malaysia is almost an utopian place. Fresh graduates with college degrees minimum RM4,000 whilst a mid level manager in a big company should be earning RM15,000 - RM20,000.

Your country sounds like a dream world. Our parents moved to Canada 23 years ago when we were 12 years old. Living here it’s just been miserable. Now that we have our own kids we are looking to move to another place and Malaysia is high on our list. Free healthcare in Canada sucks. School quality sucks. Food sucks. Quality is life is working behind computer for 12 hours a day and still not being able to make ends meet or being angry lol. Can’t think about making our kids grow up here.
You are totally spot on with the first point that Malaysia is great for not being too imperfect. Having living in advanced or "perfect" countries such as America, UK and currently Australia for a quite a chunk of my life, the organized and law strictness of these countries sometimes annoys/limits you as it sometimes make you feel that the authorities are always out there to get you.
For instance simple little things like how parking space and hours on the roadsides are very limited and the stress of trying to find one and making sure not parking over the time limit. While on the other hand you can mostly park freely here in Malaysia on the roadside without having to worry that you are going to get a huge ticket.
Having said that Malaysia is not too imperfect that it is not liveable and we actually have world class facilities/infrastructures/expertise in multiple fields as well.
I really love that about Malaysia!

Free parking on the side? That is about to change now. Local municipal has been strictly regulating and enforcing parking fees these days, at least in major cities. Still i'm somewhat greatful that outside of working hours, parking is still free but i do wish we have a centralized parking apps for the entire country. Forcing us to load extra cash on different platforms so they could earn our float is a scammy move by the municipal.

Many foreigners opt for Thailand. No doubt it's fun there. Fun, bar party if you seek we are indeed lacking on those. But what we offer true laid back experience for family traveller's. We offer little bid of best of south east Asia. You want Maldives? We have it. You want adventurous mountain we have them too. You want little bid Singapore we have them. You want little bid if freedom where you would want to wear certain type of swim wear? We have it in exclusive places for that. Best diving spot? We have them. Bar? We have it. We are not the best we agree with that but we do offer bid the best part of south east asia

Actually, there are the fun, lively stuff in KL too i.e. bars, clubs etc just that not as much as BKK. Overall, I think if you are in your 30's, male or female, KL/Klang Valley or Penang makes sense to live and work.

I really love your first point. Imperfect Malaysia make us really easy to live in. I always have the same thought about Malaysia but could not put it into word or terms, but you nail it perfectly haha. Now after living in Finland for more than 3 years i can relate more why being imperfect is perfectly fine. Maybe this country Finland can be consider one of the best country in many front; education, happiness, stability, welfare and many more aspect of life. But, if you ask me now to choose where i want to live with my family, between Malaysia and Finland it is Malaysia all the way. Hands down.
Finland is not great in family structure just as most european countries do. And they don’t value marriage and legitimate children. They prefer the opposites, if you know what I mean.

Always proud to be Malaysian.. and not forgetting we pay one of the cheapest fuel price in the world, about 70cents AUD/ Rm2.05 per litre.. cheaper than Dubai and Doha as I recall.. people complain about Malaysia a lot because they yet to travel enough to know the differences.. enjoy your stay!..

Just wanted to note here at 8:57 many Malaysians are sensitive whenever foreigners or newly registered Malaysian citizens mentioning how the cost of living is cheap since a lot of us also struggle due to our economy changing drastically few years back. Prices of necessities are high, even buying the basic ones are difficult. It's fine to think it's affordable but to say it out loud will garner unwanted attention. Just letting you know since many foreigners say this.
But pushing aside that, thank you for opening eyes of other Malaysians who think negatively of their own country, it makes me sad to see them not appreciating what we already have or how they think other countries are better. I admit we have flaws, like every other countries in the world but they forgot that we have diversity here in every aspect, cultures, food and whatnot. Its the little snips of everything that're what attract foreigners to our places. Let the others judge too, and see? All of them are mostly positive.
It's alright if we're not up to people's expectations but are we supposed to? Again we shouldn't be perfect for anyone and accept what we are, it's why many visitors love about Malaysians. Even Japanese tourists whose known for their clean country admitted that even if we're not too clean or too dirty, its the friendliness and our eager to know these people that's what made them appreciate us more. I wish Malaysians can see this is what makes us Malaysia truly Asia (not advertising our tourism sector but who knows lol).
We love peace and would like to remain neutral regarding what is happening in the western world and it's best to not talk about it. Instead we prefer to talk what we're going to eat or where we're going to eat lmao, it's much more important.

the last part about grocery delivery many Malaysian especially outside the city didn't use it so much, but as a Malaysian family living in condos we really appreciate weekly grocery by Tesco, excellent service and worth your money plus time.
I find myself smiling for the whole 10 minutes watching your video. Glad you guys enjoy the journey so far. One thing to add, you will surprise on the medical/ healthcare cost in Malaysia too, this too we Malaysian always took for granted. 😅

If you ask people from around the world accept the asean countries, i doubt they will know the existence of Malaysia. I was a bit frustrated that they didnt know about my country at first, but come to think of it, it is good thing, malaysia became sort of like a hidden gem among the asean which make its best at everything. Im proud, thankful and much more appreciate for my country, malaysia.

Great video and review about Malaysia. I believe the points that you mentioned in the video serve a reminder to us Malaysian who take things for granted. Indeed, I love my country and you cannot find a country with such a good mix varieties of food. Most importantly, the price of the food is still relatively reasonable despite on the increasing trend. :)

I particularly like your point where you said people can live elsewhere in SEA with an equivalent cost of living as in Malaysia but there are some things that you have to sacrifice. Never saw that perspective before.

I want to share a culture that you will see and experience after 2, 3 years staying here. Malaysia is a festive country, and every big festive season whether it's Chinese New Year, Hari Raya Aidilfitri (for muslims) Deepavali (for Hindus) or Christmas, Malaysians will gather with parents and siblings to celebrate them at their parents home. We call it 'Balik Kampung', or go back to hometown. And the best part is, all Malaysians may spend that festive celebration days as a holiday or vacation with families, although they not celebrate them due to different religions..it is because all those festive celebrations are public holidays! Hahahaha

Thanks for the compliment. As a Malaysian i do appreciate what we have in Malaysia. I do have chances to migrate to US, Australia and Singapore but decided to be back home in Malaysia as cost of living is cheaper, could drive anywhere within the country and all my siblings, family, relative & friends are mostly still in Malaysia. I do appreciate all the nice beaches, juggles, parks, caves and nature that we still perserve and hope the govt will continue to perserve them.

Thanks for sharing the video and listing down all the good things in Malaysia.. Malaysia cant beat eg Thailand 🇹🇭 (culture, food, fun and people etc) or Philippines (beautiful beaches , people etc) in terms of tourism but Malaysia has almost everything those countries can offer .. i think Malaysia should concentrate becoming the family orientated destination for tourists with good infrasturucture, variety of food, multi racial country, great medical tourism and not too expensive
