I wonder, did you shoot this with the Sony A7S III? If so, can the result be compared to an average webcam? If people like you pay roughly 5000 dollar for a full frame camera, which is dedicated for shooting professional video and is famous for filming in low light, and a lens with perhaps even a 1.2 aperture then it is unlikely that you will buy this light as your main source of light. So I wonder what the result will be if you set this up with an average webcam.

    • @mobilechaosyt
      @mobilechaosyt 2 роки тому +9

You didn’t ask if it was a good investment. I would say no because it isn’t something you could use in anything except a low light stream situation. You would be better buying the Neweer 5600k two pack for $40 to get a cheap throw away light. Plus if you are matching the light up with a webcam then you could have issues with quality due to not have if enough light. The bigger panels will be useful for longer.

For me, the biggest pro of the Logitech's is the hardware buttons. That's huuuge compared to the Elgato's. The key lights, you're not really going to use them anywhere else. These small lights, slap a powerbank on them and use them wherever, whenever you wish without hassle

    • @PizzaTrophy

Never thought about a power bank being used other than for charging something instead of a power source. Thanks for the info.

And that means you can power them through a basic wall charger that you would use for your phone 👍 cause everyone has one of those USB bricks.

I think it would've been a little more 'realistic' (in terms of the average streamer) if you used a webcam to compare the different lights instead of the Sony 7-III, that camera makes you look good even if you use a 5$ desk lamp from Ikea

I would argue that lighting makes a MUCH bigger difference than the camera, but I wouldn't want to see cheap webcams in this comparison. A webcam will care about the AMOUNT of light you throw into it, while the a prosumer camera (like an A7III) will allow us to look at the QUALITY differences of the lights.
And a side note, but if the $5 desk lamp from IKEA had a 60W bulb in it, that would be about the most accurate source of light you could use.

It seems to me that Logitech is not only going for the Streamer crowd with this design, it is something small, cheap and easy enough to use that it will also sell in the office/WFH worker space, where the worst crimes of lighting, cameras and audio happen.

The 3-way comparision unironically reminds me of the comparision between phone sensors, crop camera sensors, and large camera sensors, where capturing more gradations in the skin creates more of a "3D" / lifelike look
I think the main selling point is being able to mount them to the computer monitor for traveling - even in compact spaces, you can usually find a way to rig lighting if you're determined enough

I'm a little surprised you didn't mention the portability of these new Logitech lights. They would be great for a streamer away from their usual spot, someone on business doing a zoom or any of the other possibilities (streamer does cooking stream doesn't have to haul all the gear into the kitchen etc...)

Thanks for sharing this review! I've been wanting to improve my lighting for my videos, but haven't found an option that works for my budget and space yet. I'm glad that you called out surface area as a point to evaluate. That seems to be the problem I've run into is that the smaller lights create shadows that are too broad since the light source is smaller. But between the Litra and Elgato...they are super close. I think I actually prefer the color tone of the Litra over the Elgato (but you can always color grade). Great review!

First thing I thought of when seeing this was "perfect for a small stream room" where using more than 10% power on most other lights is not needed. Also for portable stream set ups. Small, easy to pack. Not bad.! Might have to give this a try!

I work on a two Elgato Key Light setup and I love how they clamp on my desk so it's a semi-permanent installation. I do use them also around 10-15% brightness but will turn it up if I'm using them during photoshoots with the green screen. Logitech's options do seem great for newer content creators and streamers though plus they're much more portable

I recently learned it's not the cucumber, per se, but the cool temperature that makes cucumber work. You can simply use a cold compress and yes, it's really supposed to work.
Thank you for always reviewing affordable options. These look like they work just fine and although the surface area may not be ideal, I like that they wouldn't take up a lot of space. I have a window in front of me and have managed pretty well for my one daytime stream, but my lighting is terrible for my nighttime streams. I'd love to be able to turn off my overhead lights and play in a dimmer room. I'm wondering though, how were these on your eyes? They seem bright to have right in your eyes, as they'd be sitting on top of a monitor.

The differences are going to be in the detail at high resolutions, and the overall contrast you can achieve. Your camera is good enough to create really good videos in almost any lighting. but the differences between these three are obvious, even on your camera. your aputure light allows your camera to create a lot more detail, and better contrast.

I was thinking exactly the same thing. My old C920/what a lot of people use sometimes struggled even with the elgato keylight at over 50%. Its worth noting the C920 is a really old terrible webcam but some lower end cameras may struggle without more lighting than the Logitech lights can provide.

Right on time! My next investment for the setup was going to be in lighting. Hopefully, they will be available in the EU soon. I wonder if the monitor stand will fit my slightly curved panel of the monitor (the monitor itself is flat, just the plastic backside has a curve on it).

These led lights have some excellent features. Alternatively home depot sells a clamp led lamp for $15 that just plugs into an outlet. Assuming you have some white surface to bounce the light source then 3 or 4 lamps work well for a budget setup.

If you've got the space personally I think it's much nicer to have a larger light with more LEDs that just aren't running quite as bright, It gives a softer light obviously but also it's less irritating on the eyes. Would be interested to see if other people agree? PS. Frozen eye mask or piles cream for the eyes my friend.

60 bucks for lictraglue! I love your sponsors! I feel that the spot in the back is still overpowering and providing more of a balanced overall, but definitely 2 lights and i wish that the bright/dim could be a bit more fine tuned. The comparison of for example the left image and the middle is more of a warmth as the lictra really ghosts you out a bit while the elgato provides a bit more tone overall?

A good way to mount something like that would be to use one of those cheap mic boom arms (neewer etc) that you see around the place for like 8 - 20 dollars each.

Great review and comparison, Harris! I think this hits a different spot in the market than the typical key-lights enough to become a success in their own right:
    1) Business users. Easy to add to your work monitor and even power from a free USB (on the monitor?). Also won't make your desk look out of place in a typical office environment.
    2) People on the move. Great for telcos and even basic content creation when on the go (hotel rooms and conference centers have horrible lighting conditions). They probably fit nicely in the computer backpack/bag/carryon. Would also be a breeze to set up.
    3) Off-grid content. On the road/ car-vlogging/bushcrafting/whatever. Get some decent light without bringing a portable generator and a wheelbarrow.
    4) Camping. Powered off a power bank this is a really good camp light for flood lighting an outdoor area if you want to pitch a tent or cook or build something after dusk.
For 3 and 4 I'd get a Gorillapod or similar to get more flexibility in mounting. This seems to be a consumer-version of a Lightcube or Litra Pro (wonder about the affiliation)
60 USD is a steal for this kind of flexibility and 90+ CRI.
Edit: Just learned that Litra IPR was acquired by Logitech back in June.. Also check out their Litra Pro which is awesome for a more versatile and "pro" light for videography, photo, etc (1200 LM, comes with diffuser) at 220 USD

I personally like the $20 clip on usb ring lights better. The controls are about 2 ft down the cable so you can easily reach it behind the monitor and change levels and tones, and the multiple rings ones really help product multiple angles of light. This logitech looks nice, but like a pain to manipulate the controls, i would have to get out of my chair to reach them. If you could get this on sale for $40 it might be tempting.

Really good, it doesn't seem like a compromise at all at least with your camera (the difference is minute, and with some time you would actually set it all u optimally)
I would like to see a comparison with a few cheap generic lights, I mean an actual handful of one model or something, I feel like you shoul be able to make something out of a bunch of cheap phone ring lights for example, those that come in articulated mounts for makeup stuff.

  • @PiersCawley

The great thing about the litra being way cheaper than the keylight is you could go to a two light set up and still have change to buy a bit of diffusion material. The variable colour temperature’s great in a two light setup too, turn one all the way to warm and the other all the way to cool and you end up looking well lit but not ‘flat’, because of the way the lights interact. Or stick both lights on full behind the diffusion material you bought with your change to get something closer to the single softbox wraparound. Or just use the savings to get better audio: that’s always worth investing in.

  • @staffsargegaming

Another great, educational video. The slight difference I saw between the Logitech and Elgato was that the lighting seems a bit more 'whole'. I'm not sure what that could be, but I suspect maybe the size of the light could be the reason? The same reason the largest light had more coverage (height, obviously as well I suppose). If anything, it makes me want to get the big light!

Both the brightness and colour temperatures of the Logitech are pretty good! But what needs to be done is the quality of diffusion (too harsh at around the ideal brightness) and surface area.
Perhaps a new version in a 18" bar form factor that can be mounted on top of a monitor would do the trick! (Even better if they could include a Fresnel lens before the diffusion layer so that the lights can project further!)

I think the Litra would be great for people with limited space, possibly a wall mounted monitor (or in my case a TV).
They could sit on the monitor with the cable routed along side the monitor's video and power cable.
The aperture looks great, because of it's size it difuses alot of light more evenly.
And weirdly enough, the Litra looks a smidge better than the Elgato keylight.

    Great video !
A question I wanted to ask about the light tests you do: Is the light comfortable? I mean, having a light source focused on a small area and pushed at 100% versus a larger area used at 20% or 50%.
I think it's a significant point to consider, especially since these are lights that are pointed at a person, often for hours, during game sessions or other. What is your feeling about that? (or has anyone tried them too?)

  • @ulianotech
    @ulianotech 2 роки тому +4

so now that i have finished watching the video, here are my thoughts:
Logitech should've came out with this a while ago!! its such a simple yet elegant design that for most, would sit right next to the C920 webcam. I LOVE Logitech. ever since i got my first webcam back in 2005 the Logitech Quickcam MP. Id play with the special effects for hours!!
For the past 3 years or so i have been very "DIY" using 10.5 " clamp reflectors with 800 lumen temperature adjustable led bulbs diffused by covering the face of the reflector with some type of diffusion material (acrylic, lycra, white t-shirt, wax paper, printer paper). a 2-pack of 10.5" reflectors run about $10-$15, a 2-pack of temperature adjustable led bulbs run anywhere from $10-$25 (depending on the brand). keeping this in mind, you can make 2 "stream lights" for about $30. you can also get a plug in dimmer as well if you want brightness control. I hope this helps those of you looking for DIY Stream lights.

I feel like where this one shines is in movable setups. Like when I stream to paint models , it's not in my filming studio but it's in my painting room which is poorly lit and small. So it'd be nice to have this easier to move lighting set up without having to drag all my key lights or studio lights. Not to mention the price point is nice. However, it seems like it's ability is easily replicated in slightly cheaper amazon light finds of similar setup.

  • @jamestaylor9887
    @jamestaylor9887 2 роки тому +2

I think the LG light is fine, but in order to really have it look good I think you need two of them shining from opposite sides. I'd have to personally test it, but if i were to buy it i'd probably sit one on either side of my 27" monitor to get optimal lighting. Of course that sorta defeats the purpose of having a cheaper light, but also means that for a smaller set up or a set up with less space you are better off.
Also, Harris I'm not sure about the cucumber trick, but I expect you spend a significant time looking at screens during the day which puts a huge strain on your eyes. I recently got new glasses with the blue light filter and the bags under my eyes have reduced drastically.

Like you said - the only thing that really matters is will people refuse to sub because of the lighting quality? I have to insert my color lenses, and I don’t have any app controls. But they work great for me. As for moving up, these Logitech options look great.

I use a triple monitor setup and just mounting one of these on the left and the other on the right for even lighting would be great and fit into my desk setup nicely. From my experience of using a small light just above the monitor, the brightness and coverage is great, but at just over the monitor it's still really in my eye line and after a while actually starts to hurt my eyes. With something larger, you can have it slightly higher up out of your eye light and keep it a bit lower in terms of brightness.
I think 2 of these at a lower power to reduce coverage positioned just over your monitors would be ok, the shadows and diffusion look really good, to me anyway.
Time spent with cheaper lights and positioning, I don't think you'd be able to tell the difference between more expensive lights, and glancing at the images I couldn't tell if I'm honest.
I definitely wouldn't want to latch these onto the back of my monitor long term, and would look for an arm of some sort, so I like that they kept it simple for the out of the box mount to keep costs down. Future updates to allow Stream Deck control make these a great pickup, so you can push a button to turn both on if you want to.

I know, at least with my set up, I actually have my light facing a cool colored wall right in front of me. The reflected light provides a to of diffused illumination that rids the pain of it searing into your eyes. I don't know if that's possible in your set up, but it does work for mine

10:24 that's not bad at all. but you really need 2 of those lights for it to work. the stand on those lights works fine, I'll just place them on my left and right monitor, since I have a 3 monitor setup normally. I like this product alot

Honestly I'd take 2 of these over a Key Light Air any day. I wonder if the articulation on the mount will allow you to easily mount it somewhere else in the room too. Could be a nice alternative if you need a light mounted high up.

My biggest concern with the Logitech light is the size. It was noticeably harsher than the other two. It was the only one where the hair shadows were really pronounced, and the neck shadow was pretty distracting. Normally you could fix this with a sheet of diffusion, either a white sheet or some form of wax/parchment paper, but due to how much light you would lose and the limited amount of lumens you have to work with, it might not be the best option. It's not a bad option for $60 though, I have to say. I would still probably prefer one of the Viltrox, Raleno, or Dazzne panels, but it's definitely a more attractive option than Elgato's lights due to price.
A comparison I would like to see would be a lower end COB compared to both the Elgato and Logitech light, since you can get a proper COB with softbox, grid, and a light stand, for under $200. The GVM P80S (80W) and Godox SL60W (or Y) are probably the best two choices for that, then just pair it with a Godox Octa Softbox. I got my GVM P80S kit for under $100 personally, and the difference from LED panels to that was drastic. It is nice to see the comparison with some more expensive gear just to see what that edge looks like, but since there are much more affordable options, that might be worth looking into.

I believe it won't hinder the viewers experience and will help most streamers who probably don't have a dedicated light for streaming. Nice one

re: brightness. Good work on the reality check when it comes to brightness. Some folks will just get the over-powered 2800 lumen light and, as you noted, only use it at 10-15%. One thing to note is that light varies according to the distance squared, so a light that is moved twice as far away is delivering 1/4 the light. Those 2800 lumen lights may be fine if you have to have your lights 4 feet from your face whereas these smaller lights could be placed closer and still deliver decent light.

for a perminant lighting setup i think the light is small & casts hard edges. Other people have mentioned that, for a put up/take down stream setup, or a traveling/WFH zoom lighting kit, this is perfect and economical! but prevent ewaste if you know you’re making a permanent setup, i would save money for something specialized toward pro/permanent studio use-I wish I had!

ive had great success with 2 15$ 10in bower ring lights from Walmart. 3 temperature options and 9 brightness levels. I only use them at level 3 and 4 respectively. I've even seen people put tissue paper over them to diffuse better. but mine are about 3 and 4 ft away respectively and diffuse well on their own.

Combine cool and warm lights and you almost have daylight and because both are on you are getting the maximum output (all 18 led's are on). This also helps with CRI because instead of using expensive led's that have more coverage they can use cheaper led's that cover where the other one is missing in effect giving a higher CRI. This of course is not perfect however it is a budget light! Just wish it was bigger for more diffusion, they might have even got away with using the same amount of led's.

Tip for a stand for the light - just get a scissor arm from Amazon for like $20 with the proper screw mount and mount the light on that and clamp it to the back of your desk. Gives a ton of versatility as to where you want to place the light and also gives a ton of free real estate on your desk - currently I use a scissor arm mount for my ring light and camera

it was very smart of them to include the ability to attach the light to really any camera stand. this also means boom mic arms or even something cheap off of amazon if needed. It will add to the cost but it still wont be Elgatoo expensive.

13:21 The logitech light is much harsher compared to elgato. It may not look like it when seeing only facial contours, but just have a look at the shadows his hand casts on his hoodie and his hair on his forehead. The difference is absolutely visible. I would personally just stick to elgato, or buy one of those 80cm umbrella light kit with the stand for much cheaper. That setup has the advantage of changing the LED bulbs if they stop working.

  • @Lethcode

Harris you looked a lot more awake with the cheaper lights. Maybe you just need the monster light to be lower :)
Would being mounted on the monitor cause it to be more shakey? As someone is playing a game or typing at the desk? Would that be a weird effect during streaming?
Also is this light more designed for laptop people for like teleconferencing? Seems to be more aimed at the business user than a streamer though both I think work equally effective.

  • @JeFilm94

I think to be honest the cheap lights are perfectly fine as a budget option. If you’re not looking to play with shadows, and just want an evenly lit face- two of those for the price of one on the next price point is a good option.
Even better, if you like the harsher shadows (maybe it fits your aesthetic, if u got a grittier look and feel) you can get away with just the one.
It’s an entry level product that “can” compete with the next price point alternative depending on your intended use.
Also don’t think adjustable kelvin is a bad thing. Maybe people want to match their tungsten lights for a less competing colour space? Giving people the flexibility and options is always a positive in my book.

Keep in mind lifespan of a product is also to be taken in cosideration, LED are sensitive to bad power regulators, when you have like a Elgato mostly because the increased LED count you have a better voltage regulator too, so 100$ vs 60$ can be the difference in lifespan becasue they are never at max brightness (voltage) so you never can have a little power peek that can dmg or decrease lifespan

I have the Godox ES45 and larger soft box video light like you do with an additional 43" diffusor. I can spot the difference between the smaller rectangle with less diffusion and my larger soft box. The quality of the light isn't the problem. LEDs are cheap and easily have accurate CRI. The problem is the size of the light source. When a smaller light source hits your face, it looks harsh and ugly like when you beam a flashlight onto a person for an interrogation. The Logitech is frankly too small and unless they have some amazing software integration, I'd say it's better to get cheap Godox or Neewer LED panels that are primarily better because they're larger.

Harris, would you ever make a video on what is the best Wireless Gaming headset to use with a Gaming console like the Xbox series X & a streaming PC at the same time?
So if you are a console gamer who also wants to stream, can find a headset that can connect to your console for you game audio and them to your pc so you can hear your Discord chat and your stream alerts. There have been some reviews on the new Xbox, Stealth 700 and the Articis 9x, but all have been very vague on the connectivity to be able to do both at the same time. And being a console gamer just getting in to streaming, wireless headphones that can do that would be a game changer for me and I am sure others who console game. And getting a good in depth review on that whole aspect and then more on the best Wireless headphones with dual functionality from someone like you would go a long way.

My worry with these lights is they look great when others review them, but every time I buy one, my videos look terrible and I end up returning them. Don't know if it was just me but the Logi looks a whole lot closer to the 100D than to the Keylight. In the side by side, it looks a little more "yellow" than the other two. Don't know if it was the temp setting you had it on or not tho. One other thing to point out is the shadows in both the streaming ones are pretty much exactly the same. The only difference is your hair strands in the Logi are a bit more harsh and visible than in the others.
It was mentioned in another comment, but the real test would be up against a webcam, not a DSLR. I'd love to see another vid comparing it like that as there aren't many comparing all 3.

I have a question that I don't think was addressed in the video (sorry if it was and I missed this!), but this would actually potentially be a game changer on use for these. So yes, while Logitech doesn't currently have something akin to the Streamdeck right now, unlike the Elgato Keylight Air which has no physical buttons and is the closest price competitor, you do potentially have the option to connect 2 of these up to a single central USB hub with a button that would allow you to shut both lights on and off simultaneously. However to do this, you would want them to ideally be able to retain your settings with a 100% loss of power.
Based on this, my question is do the lights retain the same settings if they loose power? Also as another option, if you're simply using a physical powered hub plugged into a wall, if you were to set it to a setting you like and it does maintain power, will it turn back on at the same light setting?
If you can, please reply back since I'd be really interested in knowing this information. Also note that this is all assuming that they are not actively connected to your computer. Also thank you for this review
