Now that the Wii is being phased out, hopefully things like the Quest 2 can fill the same niche. You are soooo right about motion sickness. It's all about the brain. It gets upset when in strange environs. Like a boat, but after a few expediencies your brain gets educated and no more throw-up's.
@Chit with a C you can easily get used to the motion sickness from what I know (like I did) but they don't know that. They should put a sticker or warning saying to take it easy
Lmao, I also thought the headstrap wasn't so bad after minutes of putting it on, but for me after 45 minutes, I was dying. My head felt like it was getting infused to the plastic bits of the strap.
I just really appreciate seeing a young person point out that something like this IS good for the older generation too. Absolutely no one is too old to enjoy SOMETHING on this thing. You got MY like & subscribe!
yes but recently its been a bit of a culture shock to me because im 19 and all i ever heard my whole life from older generations were im waisting my life and gaming is stupid and im immature and now i get none of that anymore because a mass amount new gamers are now boomers or older gen i should say and there minds are completely changed but for once atleast they finally see why we gamers love gaming so dearly due to certain games being more than life to us because there such amazing games that shaped us to amazing long term friends we met that really make our entire lives better its really just weird though cuz now i actually have older gens who can relate to young people in a way its just weird to alot of us younger gamers.
@@MorNloR they dont, it comes from a stereotype where your grandparents struggled to understand and no one bothered explaining to them how to use it then it evolved to elderly people actually disliking it as their lack of understanding garnered annoyence from grandkids
Or too young, either. I feel like Meta should allow users to create a Oculus account without having facebook, and they can starting from 10 years old. (Like Rec Room) maybe add parental controls to disable voice chat, and not collect data from under 13 users. Of course, facebook would never do this.
I’m 45 and am loving every minute in VR. Even got my 71+ year old father to try it - he was super impressed by the realism, but unfortunately he’s never been a gamer, so fat chance I’ll be able to get him into anything other than maybe watching movies in the Bigscreen app. I might throw him on a rollercoaster to see his reaction though. ;)
When getting my quest 2 I was super worried about Facebook banning me for no reason before realizing that doesn’t happen as often as people make it seem
Personally, I still think the stock strap for my Quest 2 is just fine once you dial it in. In fact, I find halo style hard plastic head straps to be headache inducing and uncomfortable to use for any real length of time. To be fair, once I had the strap of the quest 1 dialed in my opinion was that it too was pretty comfortable and effective.
The myth about needing the one with more storage cracks me up. When I bought my Quest 2, I showed my friend and he got one the next day but he got the one with 256gb thinking he needed it. I even showed him how much storage I have left after all of the games I've installed. He admitted he should have used the extra money for a case and accessories like I did.
@@PunakiviAddikti That's pretty weird. I just did a quick Google search and the biggest game taking up the most space is "Saints and Sinners", which takes up only 8gb of storage.

For real...I got hella nauseous the very first time. I took it off for 15 minutes and was like "That was sick, let's try it again!" It faded away after the third day, and now I rarely feel it anymore.
Luckily when I purchased the Oculus Quest 1 along with Half Life Alyx, I knew to expect intense motion sickness at first. The best way to remedy this is to ween yourself into with small play times at first. I can say it's not something that you get used to fast, and can liken it to getting used to driving a car. Its different, but definitely possible to start pulling off crazy shit once you're used to the motion of virtual environments.
I’ve never been motion sick and my first 5 times playing vr was with smooth locomotion, web swinging, a pokey bit of plastic on my nose, and a five year old screaming.
Same. I've only been motion sick once in my life after riding an amusement park ride. Still didn't throw up but felt like crap. I can be on a boat with crazy waves and not even be fazed.
Same bro like ok yea I played vr chat but some worlds in vr chat kind of got to you it sure did for my cousin and he said no let's play a different game
I have the same thing happen with my PSVR except it's even more extreme, I don't get immersed at all... Not even slightly, I could get flung 100s of feet into the air and feel nothing more than I would staring at someone getting shot into the air on a television screen. Also the screen door effect with PSVR is just insane. I don't know why I don't get immersed at all either, I mean my family freak out at the same things that leave me feeling so underwhelmed. I can't even remember the last time I used the PSVR, hell I can't remember where I put the PSVR that's how little I care for it. Honestly I still want an original HTC Vive if nothing more than to keep as a memento since it was the first VR headset I ever used and the only one I actually felt immersed while using, of course when I tried the Oculus Rift I only had like 5 minutes so I barely even got to try out anything and I felt nothing while playing that mountain climbing game even when looking down at the ground 100s of feet below me, it was all such a massive disappointment and I just wish I had a way to try a VR headset again so I could know whether the PSVR and my brief experience with the Oculus Rift were flukes or if my amazing experience with the HTC Vive was the fluke and VR actually sucks in general!! God I just want to try VR again because ever since that oculus rift demo all I've been left with are questions, questions I can't answer because my family can't afford a VR headset meaning every time I think about VR I constantly have all these thoughts bouncing around my head.
Your enthusiasm is admirable. I have a Rift for the main reason that 90+% of what I do is Google Earth VR which (at least for now) is PC only. Beyond that I haven't heard any legitimate reason to move up the Oculist chain.
Love your vids, I am a 56 yr old VR user, have Oculus 1 and 2 - I love tech more than most, from the pong games to now. The myths surrounding VR are astounding. The feeling I get in VR is akin to the beginning of the pc age pre windows, its going to be massive and the reason that it is not mainstream is it is in fact in its infancy. I hope I live another 20 years, as come on, we all know things are going to go crazy with VR and I just wanna see it : peace.
i personally have to charge my oculus near my window, so i put my sleep mask over the lenses while its charging to prevent damage. a bit stupid but,, hey it workz!
Just wanted to say thank you for clarifying the ‘wait for quest 3’ and ‘rift s is better’ myths, i was thinking of going with the quest 2 but wasn’t certain, now i am. Thanks for the great content
If you enjoy the VR experience, i would recommend moving to a wired PC headset like the Index or vive later down the line as they have better tracking, resolution, and frame rates if you have a pc to back them up.
@@phantomcatxd7637 you need power connection trident cable and the 2 other ones so you need 4 and the setup for a vive or index is way harder to do then a quest 2
The only problem i had with the quest when i first tried it was me still thinking i was in the VR even with the headset off lol ive seen other comments who said this happened to them too and i thought it was funny that i had experienced it aswell
Never had this but my brain did freak out while playing AimXR. One minute I was shooting people and getting shot to death myself, the next second I'm back at work with my friends taking turns with my Quest. Bad graphics or not, the brain is easily fooled.
@7:50 A small note is that exposing the external camera to the sunlight is bad, but not in a "it will instantly break" kinda bad. To put it in simple terms, exposing the external cameras to sunlight burns their light nodes about 14x faster. This is because the cameras has no shutters like phone or digital camera which close up when not in use (and while you use the Quest 2, well, they wouldn't shutter anyway). To put it in numbers, sun light has a energy value around 1361 W/m^2 while your typical interior LED light has an energy value of less than 100 W/m^2. This means that the sun light will heat up the external camera lenses' nodes many times more than when inside and burn them quite faster by exposure. This is why over 9 out of 10 users who used their Quest 2 outside on a relatively regular way ends up with massive tracking issues after about 6 months while the headset's camera are rated for a 8 to 12 years worth of 1h uses every 2 to 3 days. The 10th out of those 10 are usually living in area where sunlight tends to be less present (for example, in the UK where it often gets cloudy).
"boomers can't use the quest 2" Just got my quest 2 over the weekend and can't wait to strap it to my dads head when he comes to visit so he can enjoy all these crazy worlds!
I’ve had the quest 2 for about 3 weeks and to be honest in MY OPINION the default head strap works fine for me however, it does get somewhat uncomfortable.
7:00 Before I had the Quest 2, I was using Tridef and an Android phone to play PCVR for the stereoscopic image. Never got motion sick. With Quest 2, I get motion sick. I have played games all my life, sailed boats, flew, the works, and teased friends and family in jest over getting motion sick. Never experienced it myself until now. I love my Quest 2 but there is no doubt it causes me motion sickness. I can bear through it but I eventually have to take breaks. I have friends that have returned theirs because the symptoms were too serious for them. This is not a Quest 2 myth. This is a fair health concern that potential adopters should be made aware of.
damn i guess im one of the more rare ones i havent gotten motion sick ever, though i did used t go on the tire swing and spin on it till i almost passed out of motion sickness so idk maybe it is because of that.
I was thinking the same too, I didn't get motion sickness from VR the first time and I used to vomit as a Kid when travelling in a Car for long periods of time. So I had the concept that it's because of what we did as children that makes us immune to Motion Sickness
most craziest myth is definitely the “boomers can’t use VR” for two reasons. 1) im basically a boomer myself 2) this was actually my answer in the stream :)
I had always heard people either getting motion sick or a headache after first trying a proper vr headset but when i eventually tried my cousins quest 2 i was shocked to find that i was completely fine, even when i used the flying gauntlets in gorn to launch myself into the sky i was completely fine, overall it was the greatest thing I’ve ever done and now i want a headset even more
Thank you for getting rid of my hesitation for getting a quest 2 when i know a quest 3 is in the works, it won't be hard to resell the old headset for the new later
Thinking always experiencing motion sickness when playing VR for the first time is what is what is thought when i first got my Quest 2 but is played because the experience is so beautiful. I think this is the biggest myth.
Just want to share my experience the first 3 days with the Quest 2. I tried VR before but not for too long a few years ago. Bought a Quest 2. Installed Half Life Alyx and started to play. All went fine, I was amazed with the detail of the game and the freedoms to move, grab, take and throw things but in a ment I moved forward to a desk and the characters for an unknown reason went on it. The camera moved fast and that's caused me "motion sickness". I removed the headset, and stopped to play. The next day I woke up and I feel like I will fall anytime IRL, that thing caused a very dope effect in my brain. I put the headset again and it feels more stable than IRL. Hope this feelings goes away soon, it's very weird.
After a week of that experience I was able to play almost any game without motion sickness or any weird symptom. So if you are in the same situation as me in the past, keep trying. Eventually your brain will adapt to that. I have to say that it increased my reaction time and body coordination. Too much beat saber.
Lmao same! I got motion sick at the end of the walking dead saints and sinners tutorial but it was probably from hours of prior play. I'm excited to get back on it and play today
As an owner of both a rift s and quest 2, i tend to still stick with my rift s for pcvr. Crank the ss up to 1.5. Link is miles better than it was even a few months ago, but it certainly isnt without its hiccups. A lot of games run perfect but try stormland, the climb, or even hla at times and you will see the link isnt up to worry free pcvr. Rift s for me is just dependable, where everytime i try the link i feel like i need to have the performance hud up to start with.
So in your opinion the Rift S is in some ways better than the Quest 2 for PCVR and not objectively worse at everything than the Quest 2. Thanks for debunking. :-)
Use virtual desktop instead of air link and a good wifi 6 router like the asus ax-55 and there is no problems I don't have any stutters and the resolution looks amazing
I'm 53. Gen X, not a boomer. I started playing with Pong back in the 70s. We got a Quest 2 as a family gift for Yule. I got mild motion sickness once, and still get a little dizzy. Now I've got my VR legs and this is insanely cool. Res Evil 4 is awesome. I've been gaming forever, and this is the first truly new experience I've had in ages. I'm shifting the game I was working on over to VR instead of PC because of it (also, the market is far less crowded).
Man I was SUPER scared the first time I got my quest 2. I really thought I was gonna get banned from Zuck. 7 months with a quest 2 and still not banned :D
Technically the safety guide for the quest 2 strongly recomends users to avoid using the device outside because sunlight exposure to the external cameras can damage them. They're still little lenses that are capable of bending beams of light and magnifying the rays. It's a length of exposure concern though, going outside with it for a little while isn't going to result in imediate damage, but if left exposed for a proloinged period it can and probably will, under direct exposure.
I got the quest 2 for my bday back in March and to be honest this is an amazing start to vr and I have the 250 gig version and I can’t wait to get a pc to start recording
To be honest, I am one of very few which didn't get motion sickness (With a PSVR as well), however I did have something that really rocked my world and was an insanely weird but also funny feeling. Which is HangoVeR (VR Hangover), basically my hand would feel like it would go through the phone or my vision would start to readjust itself for some reason as if I'm still playing VR lol Weirdest experience ever, had it for a week straight.
How the hell is it not accessible? WE HAVE EYES... (I am Gen-X but same principle, I work in VR an average of 12 hours a day.. ..) ANYWAYS, 'BOOMERS' INVENTED VR. Over and Over and Over again 'till it stuck. Just like 3D photography, (which was invented over 100 years ago actually..)
I never got motion sick from VR... Even my first time playing Beat Saber my friends mom made me get off and drink water to insure I didn't get motion sick I just never got sick and can play for 5 hours straight and only feel the back of the head set push into my skull
Its still usable. No high functioning computer needed. Gives you access to sidequest and mods. And no, you dont need to stay connected after installing mods. I play custom beat saber songs all the time wirelessly thanks to the link cable.
@@dagambinottv Np! Just be careful when setting up mods. It may be difficult to follow. But its doable. Once I finished, I never had to go back to using the link cable for beat saber. I just load up BMBF and find songs that I want and synch to my modded beatsaber. All wirelessly! Good luck 👍
@@myguitartwerks7825 You can use any USB-C cable, I even think the charging cable that comes with it is fine, at least my Motorola charging cable worked for me, didn't have to buy anything, especially since it doesn't have to be fast if you're gonna be running the games on the Quest, not your PC, anyway.
you guys over react about the stock headstrap imo. Ive had my quest 2 for about a month, getting it from 100 percent charge to 10 percent charge daily, and i havent really had any problems with the headstrap.
yeah I got mine 6 mouth ago and I have short hairs the stock strap us really good you just need to take 5 min to adjust the strap tips : don't forget to adust the rotable parts attached on the headset on the sides it will be more confort
The headstrap is about as good as some of the better cardboard/daydream headstraps. Not terrible, but not great compared to the CV1. I can use the stock headstrap alright, but the extra padding I added to mine is still a night-and-day improvement.
i haven't tried a better strap yet, i find the standard strap totally good enough for having some fun. However, when i play synth riders intensely, the hmd starts to wobble, ruining the alignment and making the image blurry. Tightening the strap would have fixed it, but then these plastic bits begin to dig into my skull, so i can't play for long. I'm sure i'll get some better strap eventually.
I think the biggest reason why people complain about the default strap is because they have it WAAAAAAAAY too tight. I use the default headstrap also and tbh, its good enough. Could it be better? Yea, but really it could be ALOT worse.
“The Rift S is a better headset” I’m planning on getting a Quest 2 this week and let me say, the Quest 2 has better graphics, and can still process the same level as the Rift S if you have the right pc.
The boomer myth is obsurd, I'm young and had a very engaging conversation with a 69 year old man on pokerstars. (Yes, he was actually 69) but he was incredibly nice! Large age gap too.
I just ordered a quest 2 literally the other day and I thought about the quest three and getting so stressed about if I gets released the next day but thank god that it’s got another year or so
12:25 This is iffy. You really have to do your research to see what third party cables support the needed bandwidth of the Oculus Link. Copper is used everywhere for high speed network setups. So nothing wrong with copper assuming the connectors support the throughput. However, the official cable is the most convenient to purchase. Price is around the same as most third party cables that meet the required bandwidth and long length.
About the USB cable, there's one thing to consider: not all cable are rated with the same features and not all USB-A (standard USB) ports are good for it. If you got a USB 3 Type A cable (most of the time, the 1 with a blue plastique bit) and an USB 3 Type A port on your PC, you're good to go "almost" every time. If you got an USB 1 Type A cable or port, that's an huge no-go (and most likely your PC need a new motherboard and/or case with better USB ports), That thing is limited to 2.5MB/s and JUST the video data being streamed between a PC and the Quest 2 is around 3-4MB/s, not including the inputs and other stuff. If you got an USB 2 Type A (can be blue) cable and/or port, then it will depends on the cable being 2.0 or 2.1 or 2.2. You need a 2.1 cable or higher because 2.0 doesn't have parallel power & data transfer. It would work and the game would run, but your Quest 2 battery would not last more than 2h and then you would have to plug it to recharge for 6 hours. With 2.1, it's a real random world because some manufacturer limits the powering side to a low 5W@1.5A and the Quest 2 uses, by just operating, around 5W@2.1A. This means that while it would make it last longer, you might end up around 3 to 4 hours before having to recharge it for 6 hours. With 2.3 or just USB-C type, you're good to go because those cable have plenty to spare in terms of data speed and powering speed. For those who wonder about an USB-C to USB-A (regular USB) cable, the part that determines the output and input is the USB-A part and NOT the USB-C part. So even if it has 1 end as USB-C and the cable itself is rated for lots of data and/or powering, if the USB-A male plug is cheap or bad or 2.0 or lower, it's just some e-waste.

I just bought the Quest 2, mainly to play beat saber and robo recall, without having to drag my PC to a different room. I have the Rift CV1 with 3 sensors (honestly loved this thing). But set up was a pain in the butt. The quest 2 brings me clearer visuals and that quick pick up and play. No major setup, just grab and go. Played Elite Dangerous with it linked (I bought the official cable, I just wanted it to work and not try loads of different cables). Man, it is infinitely clearer. I can read all the text on display and don't have to dig out a sensor to play either. I love this thing. Oh I don't have an FB account (it got hacked and FB aren't helping). But I have an oculus account. And sidequest. Wow.

You are soooo right about motion sickness. It's all about the brain. It gets upset when in strange environs. Like a boat, but after a few expediencies your brain gets educated and no more throw-up's.
The fact that people are retuning headset for them being motion sickness is just stupid.
A lot of people are just new unlike us.
They should put a warning on the headset
@Chit with a C you can easily get used to the motion sickness from what I know (like I did) but they don't know that.
They should put a sticker or warning saying to take it easy

I just really appreciate seeing a young person point out that something like this IS good for the older generation too. Absolutely no one is too old to enjoy SOMETHING on this thing.

this is so true also why do boomers gatekeep the modern technology
yes but recently its been a bit of a culture shock to me because im 19 and all i ever heard my whole life from older generations were im waisting my life and gaming is stupid and im immature and now i get none of that anymore because a mass amount new gamers are now boomers or older gen i should say and there minds are completely changed but for once atleast they finally see why we gamers love gaming so dearly due to certain games being more than life to us because there such amazing games that shaped us to amazing long term friends we met that really make our entire lives better its really just weird though cuz now i actually have older gens who can relate to young people in a way its just weird to alot of us younger gamers.
@@MorNloR they dont, it comes from a stereotype where your grandparents struggled to understand and no one bothered explaining to them how to use it

I might throw him on a rollercoaster to see his reaction though. ;)
When getting my quest 2 I was super worried about Facebook banning me for no reason before realizing that doesn’t happen as often as people make it seem
ikr that was my biggest concern
As long as you arent sharing conservative articles, you will be on the safe side.
Same, especially since i got it the day i turned 13, i thought they would think i was sus or something
I was worried for a bit, but just do it correctly and it should be ok

Personally, I still think the stock strap for my Quest 2 is just fine once you dial it in. In fact, I find halo style hard plastic head straps to be headache inducing and uncomfortable to use for any real length of time. To be fair, once I had the strap of the quest 1 dialed in my opinion was that it too was pretty comfortable and effective.
I immediately started using locomotion when I got my first vr, no regrets
I hate teleportation and 90° turns, like its more disorienting when I have to teleport around and try to flip around to the right way to face.

The myth about needing the one with more storage cracks me up. When I bought my Quest 2, I showed my friend and he got one the next day but he got the one with 256gb thinking he needed it. I even showed him how much storage I have left after all of the games I've installed. He admitted he should have used the extra money for a case and accessories like I did.
in this case i would be the friend sadly :(
Are you sure? Some of the games I own are over 20Gb in size. I'm worried I can only fit around 2-3 games on it.
@@PunakiviAddikti That's pretty weird. I just did a quick Google search and the biggest game taking up the most space is "Saints and Sinners", which takes up only 8gb of storage.
@@mjkes The games are probably much bigger on PC. I just looked at them on quest and they're barely 4Gb
I have the 256 GB version. But then again I have a ton of games installed.
I am happily surprised that the quest 2 holds up in quality and that any lacking is made up with content and gameplay ability. Great vid
The part that put me in disbelief the most was that people would return their Oculus just because they got motion sickness once.

@YaBoyLloyd I mean.. you’re not wrong
Its different, but definitely possible to start pulling off crazy shit once you're used to the motion of virtual environments.
thank you for the entertainment, i watched this during school.

The way you said "update" got me dying! That's crazy. People just look for the few "better" things in the rift S...

It seems as though you’re stuck in be forever
After a week of that experience I was able to play almost any game without motion sickness or any weird symptom. So if you are in the same situation as me in the past, keep trying.
It's a length of exposure concern though, going outside with it for a little while isn't going to result in imediate damage, but if left exposed for a proloinged period it can and probably will, under direct exposure.
ok i know i'm a bit Late but using oculus quest 2 outside when there is no sun RN is safe right?

yeah I got mine 6 mouth ago and I have short hairs the stock strap us really good you just need to take 5 min to adjust the strap tips : don't forget to adust the rotable parts attached on the headset on the sides it will be more confort
It's the stock facial interface that's the problem
I think the biggest reason why people complain about the default strap is because they have it WAAAAAAAAY too tight. I use the default headstrap also and tbh, its good enough. Could it be better? Yea, but really it could be ALOT worse.

Price is around the same as most third party cables that meet the required bandwidth and long length.
i just orderd a quest 2 and I stated binge watching your vids love the channel keep up the good content
I watched your video early this morning, and by the time it was 9am I got mine in Best Buy, and picked it up by 11am (TODAY).
Walmart sells a tiny bottle of drops by the Dramamine that you dab behind your ear and the motion sickness goes away. Daughter had severe motion sickness when younger and those drops were like a miracle cure for her.
I just got a quest 2 yesterday, and I have already fell in love with it, and this video, and your other quest 2 videos, have made me worry a lot less about any issues. althrough I would love it if the tracking would stop getting interupted would be great... I dont get why it does, I am playing in a well lit room as well
I have a 128g and I think it’s perfect for mobile access in streaming movies, but not nearly as pricey
Idk how, but ever since I got my Quest 2 like 10 months ago, Ive only ever gotten motion sickness only once and it was not even enough to really bother me. It was very recent too, a week ago. The game I got it from was Project Wingman. Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes’ elevator never got to me, neither did Pavlov. Always a good experience for me.
Im here to apologize for doubting you. I want all to know that you are a genuine vr lover and NOT getting paid by any company which I thought was the case. BOYYYYY do I have a story for you! All ill say right now is. Last week I got an index ( I already have q2) but I finally got a gamin pc to run the index. Ill finish the story in due time...
That’s my husband. He said he felt nauseous the first time he played and now, he’s totally turned off of it. And I’m like……???? Ugh lol. I freakin love it.
Personally I have never gotten motion sick and I got my quest 2 a month back now for Christmas and I am happy that I have been able to enjoy games that may induce ya know motion sickness
7:13 i have an iron stomach so not once *knock on wood* have i gotten motion sick while in vr
Wow.
Yeah. I always get motion sick whenever I sit down with it on or watch a video but never when I play the most intense of games.
Your thumbnails make you look mad silly is sad enough you wake up and say "wow these thumbnails get me views i gonna make the same ones with text slapped on the front of the quest for every single one of my videos with the same stupid face i make" bro your truly a funny dude 😂
It took me about 2-3 hours to get motion sick after I first got a quest 1 (granted my friend also had one and I had used it before) but it wasn’t that bad and I stopped getting motion sick for the most part after my second time using it for a while but I did get motion sick after I used it for about 7 hours straight once
Thanks you so much, I've been debating if I should get one and this show's that I have noting to worry about when playing. thanks
