I mainly watched this due to being interested in shojin ryori, but I think that the best part of the video is actually the end where you discuss how someone was friendly towards you, and give her credit, and instantly accept her as a nice person. ^^
is it possible to order vegan food everywhere or is this place a special place? i just want to know if many japanese restaurants are tolerant fo vegan orders :) this looks very delicious
This is a special place ^ ^ It's very hard to eat vegan at normal restaurants and cafes in Japan (maybe except for Indian ones). I ate non-vegan foods accidentally at normal restaurants exactly because of hidden ingredients (like katsuo dashi or egg). After some bad experiences, I'm even afraid to eat vegetables at normal restaurants. Even vegan looking foods turn out to be full of animal products (tofu burgers, veggie plates etc.). Once I went to a tofu place and asked whether there was something without animal products. I was told "yes!!" like 100 times. I insisted and asked to double-check. And it turned out there was no single vegan dish. The people who work at restaurants don't even know it themselves sometimes. If you use an app called Happy Cow you'll be able to find vegan restaurants quite easily, or veg-friendly places too! There are many in Japan, especially in big cities!! So you don't have to worry about anything :D
Vegan In Japan ohh ok thank u for the answer :) i am so happy to see so many vegans worldwide. i hope many ppl would be like u guys. i am from afghanistan and grew up in germany.so here its easy to be vegan.many germans are vegan. im also interested in vegans worldwide.wish u guys all the best
Depends... If it's konbu dashi or vegetable dashi it's vegan, while katsuo dashi isn't vegan (katsuo is a type of fish). Unfortunately in Japan fish dashi is everywhere and that's why it's difficult to eat vegan at non-vegan restaurants in Japan.

i like seeing this traditional japanese vegan dishes. i can tell even though they are minimalist and clean in presentation, they have complex flavors.
I think making these foods is a form of art. In Japan eating with your eyes seems to be quite important!
I just got back home from Kyoto, and I had a lot of wonderful food experiences there. I want to go back now, so that I can try this place!
Eating shojin ryori is an experience I recommend to everyone!!! I hope you had a great time in Kyoto :D
Looks incredible! So peaceful and relaxing too :)
We were inside a house and there was no one!! So nice :))
Yes. It's great that they leave you alone to enjoy your meal in peace and quiet. They told me that they have a maximum number of two tables.

You're very welcome!! Thank you ^ ^ That's great! I've heard Germany is a sort of vegan paradise :D Wish you all the best too!!
This is a lovely gift! Thank you for the video. I am a Buddhist and really hope to be able to save up money to visit Kyoto as a vegan.
I hope you'll get the chance to visit Kyoto and eat shojin ryori! It's really good.
懐かしい! I am glad that you both enjoyed it.
Thank you so much for letting us know about this place!!
That restaurant looked as though it was a house. Is this unusual for Japan?
It was actually a Japanese house! It's unusual. It was the first time for me, to be honest.
I want to go there again...
Il solito mangione!
Wow, that food looks so good!
dashi isn't vegan right ?
