This place is independent so it's a one-off, but I'm sure there are many places to get wagyu beef in Tokyo too. One with veggie options is much harder to find, so let me know if you come across anywhere!
Hi Amy, thank you so much for this vlog. Have sent email reservation, fingers crossed we are at top of emails when they read them and we are lucky enough to get the chance to eat there. Will let you know. So looking forward to Wagu beef.
We got a reservation, wow they usually get over 300 requests a day! Their email is so lovely. I mentioned Cakes with Faces (Amy) as my hearing about them. So very happy. Thank you for this vlog. Xx
@@theresaingham3678 Yay, so glad you're going! The pages on their website are really sweet too, where they explain why they keep the door locked. Have a wonderful time - enjoy!!
Yasaka shrine does look beautiful all lit up. At night will the temples and shrines still fill in your goshuincho book or is that something limited to day time visits? Thank you.
You'd only be able to get goshuin during the daytime, and the same with buying charms and amulets. The shrine "shops" tend to close around 5pm or so. At night there's no one there apart from maybe a security guard at larger shrines.
woah i’ve always wanted to try some good real wagyu but it’s way too expensive in the states, i’m definitely gonna come here with some friends when we go to japan. the price for all that food in the set menu is so affordable!
Probably lesser quality, but I've bought Wagyu beef at Costco in the USA many times, and it's delicious. It's characteristic is the marbling, so high fat. But Yolo, and eat it in moderation.... I like to shape it like a artichoke, and thus consider it a vegetarian dish :)
Yes! When you first go there it can be difficult to find places, when you don't realise that so many places aren't at street level. Sometimes it feels strange taking small staircases or lifts between buildings - it feels like you shouldn't be there sometimes!
hmmm ... I think maybe you will like Tanabeso restaurant. Even though it is Kyoto, the mackerel was really good. I wonder which wagyu this is ... Kobe, Tajima, Ohmi ... (?) ... I personally hate Kyoto and Kyoto people but my relative always drags me back here.
your channel is such a godsend! I'm a vegetarian travelling with a non-vegetarian, and I feel so guilty that she might miss out on certain foods and experiences because of me. you've given me a lot of confidence in our trip now, not just that my partner won't miss out, but that I'll be able to have some incredible Japanese food myself. so excited to have a look at your blog about places with vegetarian options, as that's exactly what I've been searching for since we started talking about this trip. (it's officially happening this fall!) thanks a million 🥰
Excellent, so glad to help! Sometimes it seems even trickier when you're a vegetarian and non-vegetarian travelling together, than if you were both veggie - especially if you want to try Japanese food (I love pasta & salads, etc, but they're not what you travel around the world for!). But as long as you go armed with a list of places you know you can eat, you can both enjoy lots of delicious food. Enjoy planning your trip! cakeswithfaces.co.uk/japan/vegetarian-restaurants-in-japan/
How on earth did Phil manage to describe his meal? If I was presented with A5 Wagu beef, I would have dived right in like Homer Simpson 😂. You both have so much patience and thank you for sharing your experience with us 🙏. The temple looks so beautiful 🫶♥️
"Gyu" means just "cow" (or more practically "cattle" here, because we are talking about food) as one of the animal species, like others are hippo, giraffe, monkey, and such. So saying "Wagyu beef" makes perfect sense and as a Japanese person, I can translate it into the Japanese term 和牛肉, or a phrase 和牛の肉. "Wagyu beef" "Wagyu milk" "Wagyu cowhide" are all make sense.
We managed to get tickets for this Sunday. Can't wait. You can only book one week in advance now, and basically have to do it at midnight JST.
Glad you managed to get a reservation! Enjoy!!
@@cakeswithfacesThanks! It was amazing!
Naoko-san and Hideki-san are wonderful hosts. Wish we could go back.
@@ootf They're so friendly - such a special place! 🙂
0:37 I've spent so much time looking at the Kyoto map for itinerary planning that I think I recognize it more than my own city!
Haha, you'll be ready to go when you get there!
Awesome job Amy with the japan vlog see you next time and I m glad we re friends
Thank you, I hope you enjoyed it!

I will love to relax in the evening with the shrins in the background
They have such a magical and mysterious atmosphere at night! ✨
Our family will be travelling to Kyoto next month, I'll definitely check this place out! Your video has been very helpful. Thank you so much!
Thanks so much! Have an amazing time in Kyoto!
We are going here tonight based on your recommendation! First trip to Japan.
Ooh exciting!! Enjoy! I wanted to try everything on the menu :-)
Thank you so much! My husband was just saying he wanted to try Wagyu beef. We are going in March so I’ll add to this list 🤤♥️
Enjoy!! You can't go wrong with this place!
Looks perfect. Ist there anything similar to this Restaurant in Tokyo? Maybe i should read your book again :)

It really is! Eating out is much more affordable in Japan - compared to the UK anyway (and compared to San Francisco when I went there last year!).
Another one for the list 👍
I'm sure you'll love it! Just remember to make that reservation, 2 weeks in advance.
@@cakeswithfaces definitely 😄
What time (Japan) can you make a reservation? I need to set a reminder on my phone.
I don't think it says the exact time - I'd check and see when it updates, then you'll know when to set the reminder eg maybe midnight Japan time?
@@cakeswithfaces cheers
I wish this had come out last week
Ahh noo, sorry!!
@@cakeswithfaces thank anyway. Next time

It's good to be able to have it at home whenever you like!
There are countless hidden-away shops in Japan, so it can be difficult to find one.

TBH, in all of Japan, it is not too hard to find Wahyu Beef as all Wagyu means is "Japanese Beef".
😝😝

I'm vegetarian, Phil isn't; the sashimi was his ☺️

Thank you for reply.
There seemed to be a lot of delicious dishes. 🤤
I've been told that the Japanese word for "beef" is "gyu", so when you say Wagyu beef, you're saying "Japanese beef beef"
Ah that makes sense! I hadn't thought of that!
