I'm surprised nobody has made a series yet driving from Hokkaido to Kyushu on a Go Kart. Perhaps I can be the first and then write a book about it.
Do it >:D
Nah... you'll just catch a cold and stay in one of those onsen for a week anyways...
But if you still do it then go from 稚内 to 那覇! If you need a satcom for the go kart maybe i can get my company to sponsor you one for the trip :-P (they don't work in a blizzard thou, the wind is just to strong to adjust the bearing)
What did Ryutaro even say while on the go-cart? What is Ryutaro? The mystery deepens!
Stop with your Caucasian profanity and just do it
Do it on a horse XD
"Trying Japanese Vegan Food" was just a cover.
The real video title is "Real life Mario kart - Chubby foreigner vs. British language thief".
if you didn't say "chubby foreigner" before, I'd have been confused if you meant language thief that's British, or thief of the British language
Title ideas for Ryotaro in next videos.

- British Translator.
- Ken Watanabe Impersonator.

i’ve been vegan for 6, going on 7 years. let me tell you from experience. i travel to mexico a lot to where my parents are from and downloading the happy cow app was a GAME CHANGER. you simply chose the vegan tab and enter a city and it shows you (in yelp style layout) all the vegan restaurants to that area. i put in some cities from japan and i was blown away by all the options... i saw more on the list than i normally see in some bigger cities in the states. couldn’t recommend it enough.
@@alainportant6412 oh wow you must be fun at parties
@@alainportant6412 Its a bit ironic, that you could also say that about yourself
@Jason Lee bruh who gives af about what people eat, as long as they don't force their ideals on others. Honestly sad how so many people get so worked up at the mere sight of a vegan lmao
@Jason Lee sorry not everybody has a couple billion lying around to start their own tech giant, unlike elon.
Had some of the absolute best vegan food ever in Mexico City. I wish I could find food like that where I live.
A man asked Buddha "What have you gained from meditation"

I didn't think it was possible to look unhappy while on a go-kart until I watched this video. I'd be willing to donate to your go-kart fund, just so long as we get to see an Abroad in Japan Mario Kart Race with Natsuki dressed as Peach.

even tho i don't eat meat, i never mind the meat videos, it's still one of my favorite japan channels. but still, it makes me happy to see a vegan video for a change, i ain't complaining.
I feel the same way
Want some meat
Even though I eat meat, I don't mind watching people eat vegetables. I just pretend its a cute, dead animal.
@@Katya_Lastochka your respon is actually funny

I am simple man. I see Ryotaro, I press like button.
Crispy whacked sounds like new slogan for merch. I've already stated saving for it...
I was wondering how Ryotaro was going to try to kill you in this one. Go karts and whacking with sticks as it turns out. I think he's running out of ideas.
I misheard the exact same things you did, by the way. Crispy Wacked and make your butler go away.
congratulations on making the vegan video without making fun of veganism or being patronising! you did well! respect! it would have been nice if you'd spent a bit more time talking about how the food was, it looked good, maybe you'll just have to do another one?!?! heres a list of veggie restaurants in tokyo (think, ive never been)

I've been a vegan coming up on two years and my budget is climbing towards a visit to Japan. I was kinda worried as the majority of who I follow never has shown anything vegan and I was told places fix the recipe that's on the menu not the mixed combination you want. This was super helpful so thank you for going into this even though you love your meat!
same, over 2 and a half years, and i'm going to japan this may! i'll definitely be using my happycow app :)
There are fruit sandwhiches at convenience stores, and vegetable tempura and tofu at fast food shops.

dang not like theirs plenty of vegan channels devoted to making vegan content thanks for forcing him to not make something his viewer base is interested in. heres a tip maybe dont constantly go to a channel which has the front page filled with meat an try an guilt them into making your shitty content. This episode was forced as fuck an you can tell it was made for snowflakes like you so yall would stop filling 50 percent of the comments with "vegan food?" like a bunch of cave men that just discovered fire in the name of "vegan food". or the seguls from Nemo but instead of "hoi" they say "vegan food?"
@@Ave_humanity676 Why are you so triggered by a comment about vegan food under a video about vegan food? I understand there's some annoying vegans trying to bring it up all the time when there's no reason to, but in this case? You should realize you're the equivalent of a vegan complaining about a video about normal food.
While the food here will likely be vegan as it's advertised as Bhuddist-vegan, be aware that some tempura batter mixes contain egg, so may not be vegan
I have friends who traveled in Japan who are vegan. It can be tricky as there is fish in so much there (ie. Bonito flakes in most misu) but, with a little research, you can find decent choices.
Just ignore the childish trolls. They get triggered by literally everything like the little babies that they are.

THANK YOU for giving vegan Japanese food a feature! Lots of meat eaters default to "Ewww" at even the mention of vegan food (despite that it's everywhere and everyone is already eating it), so it's really awesome of you to not only show an interesting Japanese experience with it, but that there were many things to appreciate about it.
" Not a Clue Mate " 😂😂
Yes!! Thank you so much for this, Chris!! I would never have imagined you’d make a video about this but as a dedicated subscriber who happens to be vegetarian, this literally made my day 🙏 I really enjoy your videos about with meat too, but I’m glad you thought about us!! 💓 By the way-I’ll be spending this summer in Japan and your videos are a great help in preparing for the trip! All the best to you! 😌🇯🇵

I appreciate the vegan video and those go carts look like fun
Thank you for making this! I plan on traveling to Japan and China with a friend next year and we are both vegan. Hope you make more videos like this!
I clicked so fast! Been living in Japan for ages and I am vegan so, like literally I don’t even know why I started watching your channel in the first time but you kept me watching anyway! Favorite UA-camr in Japan and the only one I watch. Looove
Also, 5 years being vegan in Japan and yes it implies lots of home cooking but if you can read Japanese there are actually quite a lot to find at the supermarket or in izakayas. I have no trouble eating anywhere besides specialized restaurant (ramen/monja/hot pot restaurant etc. Are difficult but you’d be surprise I eat quite well at yakiniku places!) also Tokyo is getting more and more friendly with at least vegetarians, we even finally have vegan menus at Tokyo Disney resort!
But anyways if I had the time I would make a blog about living in Tokyo as a vegan but it’s kind of difficult at the time.
(Also, if anyone reading this wants to experience an amazing Shojin Ryori/Buddhist cuisine vegan restaurant, please please go at “BON” close to Ueno. We celebrated my son’s omiyamairi (first visit to the temple, similar to a catholic baptism) and ate there with the whole family (Japanese and French side both reunited) and it was one of the best food experience we ever had even for the whole non-vegan family!
Alyssa Matsuda a Vegan UA-camr to take a glance at is 'Ryoya Takashima'.(Is his personal channel with blogs & time lapse's)
His DIY/cooking channel is Peaceful cuisine.

Yes Peaceful Cuisine is my favourite cooking channel, Ryoya is a legend.
Thanks for the veg-friendly content. I knew if I stuck around long enough I would be rewarded. How about doing something about the Ainu people sometime?
I second that. It would be great to see Ainu and Ainu decendents give an interview too.
lol veganism and clean eating are two entirely different things
lol ye the food in the vid wasn't all that healthy.
When I hear about Ainu I think about Golden Kamui lol
The Ainu problem is a hoax for discriminating Japanese people made by Caucasian Racist.
Ainu did not have a nation and it is impossible to have a problem now with 1300 years ago struggle.
I wish there was more content that features Zen and Shinto content. I love seeing how they work synergistically with their communities.
Thank you so much for this video! It was extremely educational and helpful
I want a new breakfast bar called Crispy whacked. I'd buy that.

How devoted to your fans are you Chris ? I love how you included in one video: Ryotaro, vegan food lovers, Japanese culture lovers, and go kart lovers!
I was part of a group trip this summer to Japan and China. During our time at Mount Koya, we stayed at a monastery which of course featured vegan cuisine. Nobody else in my group liked the food but I loved the tofu and mixed vegetables. I feel like if they had this video to watch before then they might have gotten more excited about it. Great stuff as always, Chris!
Chris! I really hope you know just how rewatchable all of your videos are! I often indulge in a little binge of your videos and they never get old!
Thank you Chris for being considerate of us non meat eaters
If someone eats human would you expect yourself to adjust to there liking? didn't think so
Goorpijp Wessel you don't have any meat needs. You can live without it.
Goorpijp Wessel 😏👌👌👌👌
Why would we have the digestive system of a cow? and not a frugivore (great ape) as we do. Our closest relatives being the Bonbo have much larger, sharper and stronger teeth than humans but still eat a diet of 99% plants.
Actualy, hippos and gorrilas do eat meat. It is a misconseption that they do not because of the 'mostly herbevorous' tag that they have. But they do eat meat.
Thank you for posting this Chris! I’m a vegan and a long time fan of yours , this video means so much! ☺️
Always love seeing Ryotaro. He is so always upbeat and informative.
Helll yessss I've been waiting for this. ❤️❤️
I've compared the taste of shiitake mushrooms to steak a lot, so I'm surprised I haven't heard of vegan food in Japan until now. I'd never be able to go vegetarian/vegan (I love my fish and haggis too much), but I'd love to try this stuff. Then again, nothing stopping us omnivores from ordering these options anyway!
Leave it to Japan to make good vegan food. Living in China made me 100% I could never be vegan for more than a day. Great video!

Hey Chris, just wanted to say that your channel is deadass my favorite on UA-cam. You've been a massive inspiration to me, and it's really fantastic having somebody IN Japan talk about it AND provide insane amounts of tools and advice. Maybe one day we'll run into each other out there, keep up the phenomenal work, what you're doing is like a magic~~~~
Thank you! Would love to see more vegan/veggie options or tips in the future *fingers crossed* here and there! I appreciate you thinking about all your viewers, thanks again.
it's about time boys! well done! we visit Tokyo every year and eat predominantly in 100% vegan resturaunts...and the things they do in Japan with tofu/seitan/soyameat...the western world really needs to catch up with! if you go on happycow.com it lists all the veggie or vrgan places wherever you travel all over the world..there are countless options in tokyo..granted its a giant place..but dayummmmn i miss Ripple burgers every god damned day.. Make more videos, Chris! Can't get enough! 👍
Wow, the comments section is pretty hilarious. I'm just like why are people getting so offended over what someone else eats, if you wanna eat meat, eat it same for the vegetarians. Besides, vegan food looks pretty good so I don't know what y'all be complaining about.
Some people are just childish trolls or people who had a coworker turn down their potluck contribution because they were vegan which they somehow rolled up their mind into getting lectured.
Thank you for making this video! I'm already prepared to be less strict about my vegan diet when going to Japan, but it's obviously something I would like to keep up as much as possible

I am so happy to see this, I’ve just gone Vegan last week and I’m worried about to Japan again and not knowing what I am eating.
Chasing The Odd Shaped Ball you should look at HappyCow.com it lists all veg/vegan restaurants wherever you are! It helped me out heaps in Japan!

Thank you!! Really appreciate it! The tip of the vegan dashi alternative is also quite helpful.
Awesome video very well done. Love the temple area, and the vegan food.
Go Karting around Japan.. possible new series?!... Great video Chris.
It’s interesting to see how many people in the comments are actually complaining (or joking) about you never making a vegan or vegetarian video again, when you’ve given them so much meat and the vegans/vegetarians nothing.
Meanwhile, I’ve barely ever come across the vegans/vegetarians complaining in your meat videos. It was my understanding that you did this because you were sensitive to your vegan/vegetarian viewers, which is nice. It’s nice not to be selfish.
By the way, I’m an omnivore, so I’m not even speaking out of any kind of personal hurt. It’s just interesting to see the difference.
Chantal Ward The mindset of these people are seriously ridiculous man
It's an exercise in futility. If someone can't even go ONE MEAL without meat, then it's a lost cause. I wan't expecting a full conversion. Just ONE MEAL with some positivity, respect, and open mindedness. I guess that's too much to ask.
Didnt see one comments like that yet, think im at the 15th root comments? Maybe you are looking for these. I see some "jokes" but they are light and caused by Chris himself starting the joke
Colonel Gayfur I can see why you would think that, but there are 2 things to consider: First, my comment came at about 2 hours after this was uploaded. I’m sure many people have commented since then, burying the comments I was talking about. But I remember what I saw. I’m not saying every comment was like that, or even the majority. I was making a comparison (a subjective one since I can only go based on my own experience) between the 0 comments I’ve seen complaining about an abundance of meat on meat videos versus the at least 7-10 comments I saw that were kind of rude towards vegans/vegetarians, or at least joking about how a veggie video should never be done again.
The second factor to consider is that, as I stated, I am an omnivore. I have no reason to exclusively look for those types of comments since they offend me in no way. I was merely reading through the comments section, as I always do, to see what people were saying (looking for jokes or just interesting feedback people have is something I do on all videos I watch). That was the circumstance under which I saw those comments. I wasn’t looking for negativity, but when I found it I was a little bit intrigued and surprised by the amount I found (which, again, wasn’t like hundreds of comments, but perhaps 7-10).
Hopefully that clears things up for you. Like I said, I just found it interesting.
People get extremely defensive whenever veganism is brought up, even if it is in the most non-threatening and positive way, it's annoying as hell.
Mate, loving the videos! Great tips for visiting Japan.

Considering how healthy the traditional Japanese diet is and that Japan has one of the longest life expectancies a mix of meat and vegetables is the best choice I assume.
besides veggies it's all about fish and small portions, everything has fish, even meatstuffs have fish, mostly as broth
Fish+small portions+fermented food+sugar treats being expensive.
Yeah, veganism and vegetarianism are pretty much just social trends, or personality accessories, anyway. The only reason for their being is because some people are extremely sensitive to the reality of organisms consuming other organisms and how it can be a bit harsh to witness when you've never witnessed it before. That and it can make you appear virtuous and noble when you wear them as titles or badges of honor to be displayed to others. I mean, it's a free world and people can do as they please, I don't care. But, a balanced diet of meats, vegetables, and some kind of clean carbohydrate(whether a starch or other vegetables that contain lots of it) is pretty much the gold standard. *shrugs*
