Well researched and informative video. I get that a few people won’t like the way it looks, but I couldn’t give a shit what my roof looks like if it was all sealed up. Besides, I think it looks good. As if lap sealant looks good anyway.
Very informative. I have a question, when installing the material at the cap screw covers, do you wrap over the top edge or stop at the metal trim? I also have a suggestion that I haven’t seen on any of the videos relating to Eternabond. When applying the material, it’s best to “round” the corners. This helps keep the “square” corner from lifting or something snagging the corner. Thanks again for the videos.
You CAN, Look into PVC rubber roofs. They're last 15-20 years at least. It's more expensive than tpo or regular rubber membrane but it's well worth it in my book.
I have an awning that was showing age from sun damage and hail. I put a 6" strip over the top of the awning with it rolled up. Has been a year and still holding strong. Cheaper than a new awning and the rest of the awning is in good shape. I'm considering doing this even to a new awning.
I suggest every RV keep a small roll of it around for emergency repairs. It is a great product for patching scrapes and punctures in to your roof, or anything that you want to keep water out of. I have used to it to patch many things. In fact I have the remnants of a roll from 2005 and used ~5 in sq to patch a small hole and the tape was still good. It's been more than 2 years since that patch and it is still holding.
I'm glad you showed it before cleaning it up. I've had it on the roof of my ClassC since around 2006. A couple of years ago, I decided to put it around my fridge roof vent as an extra preventative after redoing my roof coating. This year, Hurricane Beryl ripped off that roof vent. I was going to replace it, but decided to seal it off instead with a sheet of aluminum. Yesterday, I removed the eternabond with just a plastic putty knife & gently pulling it. I was surprised that I didn't need the heat gun for it. Granted, it's a small area to work with. Side note: the gas absorption fridge died, I don't plan to replace it. Thus no longer needing that vent.
My family is looking into getting our first RV. Our budget demands a pre-owned one, and have a few prospects in mind. This video and the one before, are an amazing bit of help. I will, for darn sure be looking into Eternabond sealing the roof of our future RV. Thank you!
I used the eternabond webseal tape over everything like yours and then coated the entire roof with 2 coats of hengs. From what I read the webseal is meant to be used with coatings. Has held up well for year and half so far.
Good follow-up video. I had already applied Eternabond to my front and back seams. Have now followed your idea of applying it to my other seams. Great stuff.

I bought 2 rolls of eternabond tape to repair a lady's rv roof. I haven't opened it up yet but I'm certain I will need to replace some rotten wood before sealing properly. Thanks for posting this very helpful and informative video!
smart man... agreed, everything under the Eternabond should be healthy before applying it. It's a roof sealer, not a band aid. Good luck and thanks for watching Ron!
Buying a 2014 unit this week. Insisted on this sealant for seams, after proper cleaning. Asked for before and after photos for proof. Thanks for your videos!!!
Great review Ross! I think this type of follow up video is even more impactful than the install. Actually got me thinking to jump up on the roof and go to work. 😂 Side note... those are some nice, straight lines with the tape. Great job.
Absolutely, did it with my old trailer, a year ago. The buyer paid the asking price because of that! I will do eternabond the new baby too. Thanks, was your idea
I liked the video. As an engineer that used to do rubber roofing. I'm also going to take your advise. Everything will fail eventually. But it's the caring and the( going the extra ) mile that's going to make the difference. I'm about to pick up my new camper this weekend. And I'm going to do this immediately. Thanks for the idea.
Definitely going to do this as well.. picked up my new grand design last week and altho it's built pretty well it's definitely not up to my quality standards therefore I'll be going thru and upgrading ALOT of craftsmanship issues but I knew that I would be doing that from the beginning. After washing we wiped our Eternabond down with a rag with 303 UV aerospace protectant. We also use this on all of our decals. We applied RV Roof Magic to our edges/seams.
Great videos. I have been working on rvs for nearly 5 years now and agree with your techniques including using self leveling lap sealant on any leading edges of the tape just as a barrier from anything eventually working it’s way into that leading edge. If I may suggest when removing a penetration of the roof (ie vent) I found an oscillating tool with a knife edge blade inserted careful not to puncture the roofing material works well to remove old sealant in mass as well as a narrow putty knife with the corners rounded. As far as cleaning anything I use an orange oil based cleaner after Oxiclean for heavy organic dirt. The best product for cleaning stuck on glue is rapid remover on a semi-saturated small rag to soften and eventually remove any glue residue. It’s pricey ,but, very effective if you allow it to work for you.
O.K. Gentlemen, I have a question. I've just purchased my first RV. Don't get excited, lol, it's a 22' 1984 GMC Citation Supreme Class C. Yes, it still has the original aluminum roof. And it is immaculate ! However, with the couple of times that I have been up on the roof, not for an in-depth inspection, I have seen areas that look like the sealant is starting to crack and lift & are going to need resealing. I'll do my research further as well as respect both of your opinions if you care to answer. And I do hope you choose to. I'm wondering if I should put a membrane on the entire roof? Not only would it eliminate seams but I also believe it would make it quieter during heavier rains. And if either of you think so, what are your reasons as to why? If that is going to be the first step, then I would reseal it all & then install the Eternabond. If I am following correctly.
@@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS Thank you soooooo much for responding! And the info! I really appreciate it! The seals have been patched a few times. I think my best bet is to clean the old sealant off as much as possible, Reseal, then use the Eternabond. And I absolutely LUV your channel! Thank you for the amazing information! Bravo!
Thank you for very informative video,, I got to do this ASAP on my rv rooftop, I’m new in rv world have a classic rv and is leaking now so watching this video was a blessing ❤
Always great content Ross! I used Eternabond tape and cleaner on my previous RV and the product is amazing. I had used their cleaner first then I applied the Eternabond tape and I applied it with a J-roller. I definitely recommend this product.
A little hard work goes along way. Nice job. It shows. Thanks again. We are now RV owners ourselves. We picked up our trailer 2 weeks ago and are getting it ready for the season.
Ross I did this 3 years ago and for those that have slides I would suggest doing those as well. The mfg already have a strip running from end to end on the slide box. RV’s are not really an invest but anything you can do to protect what you have invested into is just common sense. And you should still inspect your roof regularly which I do monthly or each time I move because limbs and other garbage seem to fall on it.
So my issue right now is that I just got this trailer, and I found a small leak in the bathroom during a heavy rain. The current sealant isn't in great condition, but even now the weather is already too cold to apply new LAP sealant. In a month, it will be well below zero. I don't think I have a choice but to clean it up as best I can and apply the tape with the last few days of warmth we might have. I already got a primer that is supposed to help it adhere in cold weather. I will clean it well with soap and water then acetone, and apply. Wish me luck haha.
Looks like a good solution, we painted the roof sealer on our dicor a couple times. It did well, but needs reapplied every 2-3 years. I did it because our Lance had a minor skylight lead when we brought it home and it hasn't leaked for five years since. Now we are picking up a new Imagine in the next couple of weeks if our dealer gets a timely delivery from Indiana. I definitely see the need for both my thumbs AND a roller as these 61-year-old hands need some backup, LOL. Thanks for the video and follow-up. Cheers, Davey - KU9L
Keep a small roll in the camper drawer for those unexpected issues.. Also they recommend using a Eternabond Caulk specifically designed to seal the edge of the tape.. Used it a a branch puncture 6 years a go and it’s still holding. They also offer along with the cleaner a adhesive enhancer spray. Good videoo
I did this to my trailer when installed a new 60mil roof membrane. Even used it on several areas under the membrane to make sure of no leaks. 3 years later and not even a hint of worry about leaking. I did not use any lap Sealand and did pure eternabond tape on edges and around evetyhing on the roof. Followed Ray from "Love your RV" with several mods that have worked out great. The rope at the back end under eternabond tape has worked out the best. Forces the water to the outside gutters. Great 1st videos as well as your as your follow up.
Looking great Ross I was thinking about the doing the same instead I went with the hengs rubber roof sealant 2 coats on everything I’m looking to upgrade a few things on the roof and maybe I will do that in the future thanks 😊
Informative video, and love that you can make follow up videos fun to watch. I watch your videos even when I’m not interested in the topic because they are just well made. Thanks, Ross.
I notice you installed the EB over the little vinyl trim that covers the screws up on the edges. That trim seems not to last and I had replaced it. But with what you doing, it seems to take care of that.
Good observation Ron. I figured the eternabond would help protect that piece. Plus I put 303 on it every 4 months. If I do ever have to remove it, I’d just cut the tape at the edge, remove the cover piece, and retape over the new piece and everything else as I originally did. You can apply eternabond on eternabond.
I am getting some leaks now after two years. I believe it is getting past the section of tape on the hinge side of the vent. That is a difficult area to get the best seal because of the uneven areas where the hinges are. Did you have any tricks to work around that area of a vent? I think an extra strip of Eternabond above the hinge area to raise the level of the tape might work. Oregon is a rough place to have a leak!
not exactly sure where you are describing because i never went over hinges on mine. everything i went over had lap sealant. can you send pics to management@rvtipsandtravels.com and ill see if i can figure out whats happening, but i dont think its the eternabond.
Absolutely love your videos. They are so easy to understand. Do you have any videos on living in an RV full time in a park. I'm not moving my 31' Keystone Cougar. Thank you.
@@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS These will most likely answer any questions I have. I'm new at this RV living, just two weeks now, so trying to learn all I can. At 77 my learning curve is a little rusty and the fear of doing something wrong worries me. Thank you so much.
When’s the big update coming? I saw you have some data from others. I did a trailer last summer based off your info, tan roof with black tape, looked awesome. But we loved camping so much we traded for a grande design 5th wheel. Trying to decide if I want to do it again to a brand new camper. Nothing to lose on the last one, knew we wouldn’t have more than couple years. But I was so proud of how it looked while I had it.
the 2 year update will be this summer, just not sure which month. Stay tuned (*spoiler, no different than 2 years ago, still looks like it was just installed)
I changed out my eternabond on my slide outs and the easy way was to use the eternabond cleaner spray and a plastic putty knife spray then scrap up. I tried a heat gun bad choice it turns the eternabond to a messy fly tape. Ive been kicking around the idea of doing my roof. Also.
a little patience and a good putty knife and its not all that difficult to get off. the hardest part is getting that last layer of sealant off, but if you are going back over it, you can apply new eternabond over the old microsealant.
@@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS I am a recently single mom and my 9 year old son and i bought a C-Class rv and any tips would be helpful 👍👍👍 p.s. they say a storm is coming this afternoon,so when it clears up then i’ll go ahead and hopefully i can do what you did to your RV 👍👍👍 thanks again from California
2 year video being released today. Will continue doing annual reviews. In the video today is a picture a viewer sent us that was taken 9 years ago of how his eternabond is holding up. The new video is being released at 4pm eastern.
No, I definitely did not. In fact, I’m even willing to get on a live FaceTime call with you to show you what it looks like today if you are interested in performing this mod. Our email is management@rvtipsandtravels.com please send me an email and we can arrange a time. I will even have time this weekend. The eternabond actually cleans up easier and better than the TPO does because it’s a smooth material vs the rigid membrane.
@@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS I believe you, no need for FaceTime. I just got my first RV. Upgrade from tent camping. I am going through all your videos. A ton of good info. I appreciate all the work you put into them. Keep it up!
no problem, it does clean up well, and I am always here to help. I chat with viewers on a regular basis. If you have any questions let me know. I appreciate your viewership Robert!
Thank you for this great video. I have one question if I may ask: the front shield of my roof top is made of ABS, has Eternabond good adhesion to such kind of surface as far as you know? Thank you so much. Edoardo
I have a fiberglass roof that goes down the side to the 'rain' tray/drain. The RV tech tried to seal it with the eternabond but it eventually lifted up. Now the other side has popped up. Going to just fill it up underneath with sealant hoping the works. Would love to seal around everything with the eternabond.
Eternabond is extremely difficult to remove and if applied correctly on an approved surface it is never going to pull up as it did in your experience. I would be mindful of using that rv tech again for this application. I have done exactly what you said over 2 years ago and neither side has lifted. It was definitely not prepped or applied correctly, or both.
Hi Ross - quick question, being you did the sides of the roof, has that impeded the rain water getting into the gutter at all? Thanks for all your videos!
I have the RV armor roof. I’d always said when I got a new Rv I was going to do this, but since I had planned on RV armor from day 1 I sent them a message and they said it would be better from their aspect to not have the tape on….
interesting Barr. A buddy of mine down in MD had it put over the tape, they said it would be fine. I guess it depends on the service dealer who is coming out to do it. How has it held up for you? Thinking about doing some type of coating on my roof.
@@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS I’m working on an update. It has cracked in a few areas and I’ve been working on coating over them. I personally believe that the cracks are fine most of the time as you have to remember that under it is multiple layers of the roofing, an epoxy base coat, and your factory TPO. They did offer to send someone out for the warranty work but I am doing it myself. To me it’s about the lifetime warranty for failure. They say your warranty is intact even if you never get on the roof. I still recommend washing it and inspecting it yearly though. Overall I’m still happy with it
Hello Ross, and thanks for the video. We just bought a NO-BO 2025 20.3, and we are picking it up this weekend. Would you suggest putting this on a new rig? The reason I ask is that given where it will sit next to our house, it will always be in sunlight - south facing. Is this a good preventative measure along with Armor RV at the beginning? Thanks much. We need all the tips we can get with respect to preventative maintenance. GOD Bless
you can do this whenever you want, as long as the sealant is cured. remember its not necessary, it just means you dont have to constantly replace lap sealant.
First, we had pop up campers for years and sold when the kids were in sports, have recently purchased a used camper trailer and your videos are my number 1 source of information, thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience. This camper has needed some tlc, and I know from you, what to tackle and how, Unfortunately we have pine trees along our parking spot, and I have done some manage to the roof that I have been working on. I am going to use this stuff along the top side edge like you did, and wondered if you have regretted attaching the bond to the replaceable trim cover stuff, that 1 inch replaceable trim that covers the screwed down trim tracking. Since that trim is destroyed by the sun, and needs replacing ever so often, which I did just do on ours. But given it might need replacing again, what are your current thoughts on how you went half way down and stuck the bond to it? Regret it? Worry bout it for the future?
Thanks for the nice comment Chad. If the bottom half that piece degrades from the sun (the top half wont because its covered), ill just pop it out at the bottom and slice the eternabond at the top where it connects. New eternabond would need to be installed on the sides but you can go over old eternabond with new. they actually mention this in their video. its a little work but ill also put some plastic and rubber seal treatment on it when during my maintenance and after 6 seasons its showing no signs of degradation.

Makes you wish Eternabond made entire RV roofs. I’d pay a few hundred extra for a roof that lasts 15-30 years with no leaks. Good video, thanks!

Thanks Davey. Good luck!
Good videoo
Thanks for watching Rick.
Thank you Steve!
Looking great Ross I was thinking about the doing the same instead I went with the hengs rubber roof sealant 2 coats on everything I’m looking to upgrade a few things on the roof and maybe I will do that in the future thanks 😊
thats good stuff too, thanks for watching bud.
Great video. We are buying a used trailer. The roof is brand new so nothing to repair yet. Will be getting some tape soon. Thanks for the great video.
Thanks for the comment!
👍 I'll like to thank you, my wife RV, needs roof repair and I'm looking for what products are good at there...
no problem
Informative video, and love that you can make follow up videos fun to watch. I watch your videos even when I’m not interested in the topic because they are just well made. Thanks, Ross.
Awesome! Thank you!
Hi Ross, Great video! Nice Tom Schaeffer's RV shirt! We love it!!! 😊
Thank you. Gonna get down there soon. Plus, I think Tara is ready for a bigger rig.
@@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS Sounds great! We hope to see you soon. Oh boy! A new rig for Tara, that's super exciting!
get some thing big ready, lol
I did this with tape bond , after I painted with a paint sealer flex.after six yrs still nice…
nice, thanks for sharing
THIS IS AWESOME!!! 😎
Thanks! 😄
Looking forward to seeing this. I know some small areas I’ve put Eternabond on our roof have held up good.
Thanks for these videos I’m going to do this for my tt! Awesome! St Catharines Ontario
You are welcome! Have fun and take your time to get everything flat.
The outro music is "Arms of Gold" Instrumental version by Tape Machines. I likes it much.
good catch!
Thank you.

These will most likely answer any questions I have. I'm new at this RV living, just two weeks now, so trying to learn all I can. At 77 my learning curve is a little rusty and the fear of doing something wrong worries me. Thank you so much.
Let me know if you have any specific questions!

Will do.
Looks good to me, thanks for the update.
+1 sub just for this 👍 thanks for the update and so many comments in favor of this 😊
Thanks for the sub!
Going on year 4, looks just like yours.
This is a great video , thanx for posting !!
My pleasure!
Looks good. I am in the process now. Much thanks for the tips and techniques.👍
Welcome Doug!
I put this on my RV about 12 years ago and it is still working and no evidence of failure
Nice, thanks for sharing!
Awesome video thanks
You bet
Thanks
Welcome
I use a good silicone roller to put on these products.
I have no problem with how it looks. I actually think it looks good. And the edges are tight still after a year.
Thumb for around small diameter places like sewer vent , polly urethane roller fror the long runs .
👍
We already did it to ours like 2 yrs ago it’s perfect
so glad i found this video! i am very new to the rv world . thanks for the info !!! 👍👍👍👍
Glad to help!

I am a recently single mom and my 9 year old son and i bought a C-Class rv and any tips would be helpful 👍👍👍
p.s. they say a storm is coming this afternoon,so when it clears up then i’ll go ahead and hopefully i can do what you did to your RV 👍👍👍 thanks again from California
Ya she ain gonna leak no way! Good job
👍
Great tips thanks! 😊
Thanks for the comment Joe, glad to help bud.
One year is not enough time for any type tape review. However this was a great video with good quality content good luck.
2 year video being released today. Will continue doing annual reviews. In the video today is a picture a viewer sent us that was taken 9 years ago of how his eternabond is holding up. The new video is being released at 4pm eastern.
Good Job,im doing mine
enjoy! let me know if you have any questions.
I bought my Rv from schaffers Rv outside Allentown pa 8 years ago
Same here! 2017.
That cleaned up really well. Looks like you used the same footage from when you applied it. :)
Thanks for the follow up
Can you apply any kind of additional protective coating on top of tape
its not really needed, but you can if you want.
Thank you for this great video. I have one question if I may ask: the front shield of my roof top is made of ABS, has Eternabond good adhesion to such kind of surface as far as you know? Thank you so much. Edoardo
eternabond will easily stick to ABS. make sure to clean it well first.
Thank you for the update!
Welcome!
Thanks for all your videos!
it has not, water runs over the eternabond and right into the gutters.
Thanks for the Update.
No problem
Thanks god bless
Wonder how west Texas sun and heat will affect it ???😮
should be fine, its rated much higher than that.
You can use a heat gun to remove it. It will break the adhesive bond.
I'm still working on doing the mod as well. My only concern isn't the longevity but the resale and new buyers not understanding.
I thought about that too Chris, and might definitely need an explanation to the buyer.
Im doing this with a rubber roif caoting between the two I would imagine I can enjoys years of maintenance free camper.
nice thanks for watching!
Overall I’m still happy with it
Why is Closed Captions unavailable?
Not sure, I have them turned on for all videos.
FYI, When using lap sealant always wear some rubber gloves, For cleanup, on the tools if you use them, use WD-40.
Thanks for watching Joseph
This camper has needed some tlc, and I know from you, what to tackle and how,
Unfortunately we have pine trees along our parking spot, and I have done some manage to the roof that I have been working on.
Great video 👍🏼 wondering if I could use this on slide out also
