Just installed Eternabond yesterday. 8x30, 2005 5th wheel, did just the main roof, got 2 - 4"x50' rolls, still a few feet left on each. Covered the metal screw trim and onto the roof. Installed all off using an extension ladder, fairly easy once I got the knack. Pressed in place with hand. Biggest point is all to be applied to must be clean and dry, dry and drier. Just wiping dew off won't do it. Wish I would have done this years ago. Looks good and if it last as long as they say, I (age 68) probably will never see it fail.

I do some commercial roofing and use this type of tape for TPO repairs. I used it on my camper and the results have been great. I spent a lot of time prepping the roof before hand to get a good bond and then pressed it down with a silicone roller that we use on TPO heat weld seams. That worked really well getting it pressed in.

    • @WhyWait

When my Lance 1995 travel trailer was new, I put Eternabond tape on the roof seams where it meets the side walls. Still looks awesome. I originally put it there to prevent black streaks from the walls flexing. Year 2 its holding up great! I used about 40 feet

Last spring I found the seal around the bathroom skylight had cracks. I didn't have any lap sealant, but had eternabond. I had seen your first video and figured I would give it a try. All types of weather for a year, a trip from Missouri to Alaska and back, totalling 13,000 miles, and still holding great. I'm going to do thr rest of the seals, and know I won't have to worry about leaks. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and expertise.

It’s a good brand of tape…if you want to tape things…that being said, I do some RV roof repairs here in Florida and have found the putty version of Flex Seal is insanely long lasting and easy to apply. I can do a travel trailer roof with about 40 bucks worth and a chip brush, after cleaning with medium-drying lacquer thinner(not acetone, acetone severely weakens plastics.

I just did this I think it’s a great idea I should have done it years ago.I went over it with liquid rubber. If I wasn’t going to go over the entire roof with liquid rubber I would have went around the edge of the tape with Dicor for insurance.I used 4” tape so if water gets through either side & travels 2” from side to side then I guess it’s meant to be.If you prep it properly & roll it down it ain’t going anywhere especially after the summer sun gets on it & you check it periodically to make sure you didn’t miss anyway spots while rolling it down to contour.

I did my roof in 2014, almost 10 years ago now, and the tape is showing a little wear - small hairline, spider cracks in the outer white jacket. The roof is a edpm roof and I too wrapped it over the side rails... The rubber sub layer of the tape is still perfect, although the rest of the roof is getting up there - the membrane will be 20 years old in 2 more years. I've never had to remove the tape, but would hope to never have to - I suspect a heat gun would have to be used. Happy Father's Day, Chris.

    • @WhyWait
      @WhyWait  7 місяців тому +1

Appreciate that, thank you! Ten years is pretty solid if the tape is still sticking.
It’s not the easiest thing to remove but that’s what so great about it. But it’s not impossible. Use a heat gun, some solvent like Kent’s Acrysol. Removing old lap sealant sucks too. Both take patience.
Here’s a link to a video where a buddy of mine explains a great way to remove it. Around the 7 minute mark.
      ua-cam.com/video/f4YXYYWWtbA/v-deo.htmlsi=Un0czBiCLUCrqjV0

@@WhyWait Thank you for that link! I like your method - simple and pretty much fool proof. When I did mine I used mineral spirits and acetone on the lap sealed joints. I quickly discovered they would blister the roof membrane if I did not get it on/off in seconds. Also, I did not have a roller so I used a palm sander with a cotton burp cloth clamped in place of sand paper. It made VERY quick work of permanently setting the tape, gliding over it in seconds. It was likely overkill based on what I'd seen in your video, but its what I had at the time.

  • @RVTIPSANDTRAVELS

*Just seeing this Chris, everything looks good bud. The membrane lifting was an issue during the years our rigs were built. I'm not sure if it was the membrane glue or something else, but has nothing to do with Eternabond. I heard somewhere that GD used Dicor on some rigs, Alpha on others, and the ones with Dicor would lift the membrane at the lap sealant, but I can't confirm that. I would think the proper glue would hold it down regardless of lap sealant, so I tend to thing its the glue, or lack of enough of it actually being applied. Mine started lifting before the Eternabond was applied, but seems to have stopped at the edges of the Eternabond, probably due to the weight of the tape. Good video, hope you're well old friend. See you in Hershey?*

after three years my roof is doing great with the tape up there.
big thing to prep the places you want the tape to stick to.
my sunny rook was built in 2001. holding up great. couple plastic problems. but replacing with parts not made of plastic. in 2025 all the counter tops will be replaced with real wood.
they are ok, just changing the look with a newer up grad look. same with the cabinet doors.
sure it is old. plenty of miles on it…but it is paid for. and still has miles left on it.

I needed a 2-sided tape to hang very thin mirrored rectangles I got off Amazon. I was unable to defeat the grip of the white cover of the RV tape. (In the freezer I thought I could defeat the grip - nope!) to make it 2-sided.
Luckily, Eternabond has 2" 'Roofing and sealant tape for general construction with release paper on the topside. This is nearly as ornery as a Raccoon to handle, but at least there is a clear release tape on the top ...making a workable (somewhat) for two sided joins. I found the RV tape sticky - this is 2X! (likely partially due to thinness when the top layer is removed) My workaround was some windex or soapy water to keep my fingers wet while handling it. ...it didn't layout perfectly flat, but this was my first time. I have a feeling this 2-sided version has many more uses. Jim

I think eternabond is great stuff but I did contact Henry's Tropicool and asked them about their products.
They recommend not using eternabond tape, saying that their Tropicool 887 will not stick properly over time so use their 885 to seal around everything.

@WhyWait yes Henry's Tropicool 887 silicone roofing is great stuff, has a lifetime warranty and if you take your time and follow instructions you will have a professional result.
I'm planning on using it on our class c with a fiberglass roof.. I wanted to use the eternabond being I've had great results in the past but in my search for info that's what they shared about using their Tropicool 885 that is used as a sealer around all items that have dicor or similar.

Seal around the edges real good, then pop the light covers off and put sealant over the screws inside there too. You might even notice some of the screws inside the covers rusty from water getting in there.

Where are you located? I'm in Phoenix and the Eternabond tape turned into a grey crumble dust. Might have been a bad batch, but it did not hold up under the Arizona sun.

You must be the only one. I’ve never heard of that or had anybody comment on something like that. We full time and have been in TX, NV, Georgia and all places where the sun beats down on it.
The tape does have a shelf life of 5 years, you might have been sold an old roll. But if the tape is good once applied it’s good for 25-32 years with 15 year warranty.
      Very strange

@@WhyWait I agree. I applied Eternabond to my front and back seams when I bought my 1998 Bounder in 2016 as a precaution because they looked a bit dicey and here I am in CenTex 4 years, tape is 8 years old, and no issues. In 2017 and 2018 I painted my rubber roof with Henry's Tropicool 887 silicone roof paint, one coat each year, and that has also been fabulous. I have a few partial-depth nicks from hail and branches over the years, but between the Eternabond on the edges and the Tropicool paint/sealant on the rest of the surface? NO leaks in all that time, and I also lived in the Columbia River Gorge winds and rains for 4 years in between the heat. It's also a breeze to clean: dish soap, extension car wash brush, and spray hose. And it dropped my cooling bill by 22% as I measured it that first summer. I'll add another paint coat this Fall when it cools back down just to cover up the little dings, but I suspect this roof is good forever. Note: the two do not play nicely together since silicone paint will not adhere to the Eternabond, but act well as a team.

4 years ago when I replaced the entire roof membrane and decking on our Motorhome I looked into and considered using Eternabond tape bit ad I temember it acoording to eternabond you're supposed to use lap sealant on all the edges. My concerns are that, and if a roof vent, fan or skylight beeds to be replaced it's an absolute bear to get off(which is both a good and bad thing). Dicor is way easier to remove. It's a very appealing idea, I may still do it at sometime in the futue. Thanks for posting and Safe Travels.
