Four things to help your subscribers: 1) Use a roller and a screen spline tool to create a better bond without bubbles and gaps. I tried the thumb and found the roller and screen spline tool do a much better job, 2) Round the corners on all the tape to eliminate sharp corners, 3) Install the Eternabond tape down each side of the trailer the way it was applied to the front and rear, and, 4) Cut the tape with a utility knife on a block of wood and not with scissors . Scissors tend to gum up. Glad I didn't bother using the Seal-Tite.

I'll definitely try the things you've suggested next time I use either one of these tapes. Rounding the edges is an awesome idea!

A very helpful item for this kind of project & material is a wallpaper seam roller, a little 1 inch or so wide wooden roller with a handle. Flattens out Eternabond tape very nicely.

Any further use of Eternabond with have a seam roller to finish it up.👍

      Hey Edward.
Yes, the tape on our camper is still going strong. The last time I looked at it closely (climbed up top) was about two months ago. I learned, don't get it stuck on your hands in summer! lol.

I am in the process of doing the same.
I got the eterabond cleaner and primer. From what I have read you should use a steel roller to get all the air pockets out and tobond better. They also sell it in 11/2",2",3"4"6" and 12" wide. I am going to clean the caulk ( dig out what HAS to come out. I first used eternabond 5 years ago and I will never use anything else. Don't take the whole backing off then put it down( if the wind catches it ,it will stick to it's self and that piece is junk.( remember when you were a kid and put stickers on everything)
    Thanks for the time
    I ordered 150' of 4" 20' of 6" and 30' of 3"

      Hey Steve.
IMO, use the Eternabond, it was a lot easier to apply. I believe the two tapes will work the same once they are down but eternabond was easier to work with.
If you think about it, let us know how it went after you installed it. Good luck and thanks for watching.

The pro’s put a bead of sealant around all edges of that tape. And seal under that vinyl channel to cap it,where you taped over it.

I like the idea of using eternabond for sealing the roof. I am getting ready to reseal my RV roof. I decided that when I reseal it, all the self leveling sealant has to go!!
I know, work, work, work. The reason why I am willing to do the work, the sun beats down on that roof day after day and eventually the caulking will dry out. I want to get the most out of the eternabond. I don't think placing eternabond tape over the caulk is a good idea.
Maybe for stopping a leak at the time, but for longevity, absolutely not.

    • @RetroRVRecon
      @RetroRVRecon  2 роки тому +3

      Hey Michael.
If we had a large covered place to work under we would do that too. But we don't so I made the best with what I have.
We plan to post updates every 90 days on how the tape is holding up. Eventually we will redo all of the seals (caulk). For me that means the camper is out of commission for a while or pay someone to do it. Meanwhile the sealing tape will do the trick for me.
Thanks for watching our video Micheal and thanks for your honest opinion on what you think of the sealing tape. I hope I can tell you in a year its doing fine.😀

@@RetroRVRecon I don't have a covered shed either. I also don't have failing caulk, yet! Just had to touch up a couple of spots.
When the weather turns a little cooler then that is when I start my project.
Hopefully after it's done it's no longer required to keep resealing because of cracks or leaks. I want to make my RV experience a little less stressful. People swear on the eternabond tape. I just want to do it in one shot. Thank you for your reply and I hit the subscribed button and notifications bell. Happy RVing.👍✌️

I would have put a dab of sealant on each one of the screws under the vinyl strip, because moisture will get in there and rust out the screws and rot the wood. I know because it happened to me years ago.

      Hey Rick.
Good eye!! Yes there was. When I replace the trim molding I check the screws. They seem to get a little rust build up over time, so when I see one that has a bit more rust than I would like, I replace it. I replace them with SS.
