I am a nano creator and they reached out to me a few years ago to create a video for their concealer. They sent me a brief with step by step instructions on how to film an "honest" review. Let's just say I passed as I have morals and was getting a major "ick" vibe. Here is 1 page of the 13 page brief they sent:
ROUND 1: “BEFORE” PRODUCT HERO + SHADE #
◇ Silently pose without the bottle (ex.A)
◇ While holding the bottle in frame, give us these spoken moments (ex. B):
◇ A brief introduction to your testimonial and the reasons you want a new concealer
◇ Show us the problem areas you would like to cover up with the concealer
Please grab your BAD MATCH for the next 2 rounds!
ROUND 2: BAD MATCH vs GOOD MATCH APPLY (ex.C)
◇ Apply bad match concealer to RIGHT under eye and blend (disgusted reaction)
◇ Apply good match concealer to LEFT under eye (+ blend)
IMPORTANT: Keep your head in the same framing (+ limit head movement) while filming
ROUND 3: BAD MATCH EMOTIVE REACTIONS (ex.D/E)
◇ (Start with bare skin) Apply a large amount of the bad match concealer
◇ React verbally (i.e. “This does not match me at all!”; “I can’t believe I got the wrong shade again”)
◇ Speak to the makeup mistakes you’ve made with wearing the wrong concealer
◇ Talk about how you need a new concealer that works for your skin

False advertising on social media has gotten out of hand. I've started reporting blatant false advertising to the FTC.
The last one I reported was a company advertising a product for 35% off, then when I clicked the link the actual discount was "up to" 35% off, when "up to" wasn't on the ad. And I went to the exact product advertised on Instagram and im not kidding when I say it was only 12% off.

And you’re not wrong for doing that because being in the make up industry for 40+ years and selling make up in my boutique/hair studio I had some very very nice make up the only difference in drugstore foundation and boutique foundation is it has a different name on it. I’m just gonna throw out a number And tell you there’s six different companies that make all the foundations in the world and that’s where all these companies buy from and they just put their private label on it and I know this because I did it. The one makeup that I sold in my studio was by a company called THE BALM, I sold lots and lots of it before it became so well-known and was placed in many HIGH END Stores, they pulled it from the boutique atmosphere and put it in Sephora Ulta Kohl’s places like that, I haven’t bought any in quite some time, and I honestly would buy it online directly from them. But with all my experience in the cosmetic industry, that is by far the most reasonably priced and true to what it says, it will do make up there is on the market. The only difference is that at least when you go to a boutique atmosphere you can try all the different shades unlike the drugstore where you’re doing a crapshoot..

I'm sick of the adverts for this foundation brand. It doesn't make me want to buy especially now seeing this video. If it's too good to be true it usually is a scam. It's one of my pet hates with Facebook /Instagram /X etc constant pushing the same adverts. Thanks for the unbiased video. xx💖

I have both the concealer and the foundation and love them as well. I've bought tons of higher end - think Charlotte Tilbury and MAC foundation, as well as drugstore brands, and IL MAKIAGE WORKS great for me!! I have the " After Party" which I've had on a subscription for about 3 years. I just ordered the " Woke up like this" and it came in yesterday, so I'm going to try it tomm. I've never had ANY issues canceling, or getting charged after ive canceled and I check my bank account everyday. Also after I've canceled the 2 week try before you buy and when I went to return it for whatever reason, I was told to keep it, then got the money back and then got a $20 gift card. I love the company. I'm glad to see that you like their foundation too. ❤

I did the trial and i loved it. But i don't go through foundation so quickly so the subscription charged me the next month. I hurried up and emailed them asking if i could cancel the order. Not only did they release my funds, theyd already shipped the foundation and told me i could keep it for free. That stood out to me. As for deceptive marketing, i think most companies do that. That’s a very typical/normal business response. This is my actual job lol. If it’s an error on “our” end (damaged in shipping, payment processing etc) we are obligated to let the customer keep the product. As for releasing your funds that’s also a very normal part of my job. We don’t want banks coming after us if the customer files a claim, and if multiple customers file claims that’s really bad for your business. Plus the bank has to launch an investigation which can take up to 2 months I believe. So it makes more sense to refund the customer or you risk making the situation worse. I hate to break it to you, but this is the bare minimum in customer service when it comes to online orders. I think people are so used to crappy service. So the bare minimum seems exceptional to them. But in reality this is the best course of action because it’s less work for us and the customer is happy.

Omg- your comment 😂 reminded me, to delay my Dear Brightly subscription again bc im just not going through it very fast - so you just saved me a bunch of $$ i can’t afford rn! Thank you! 😝🥴 just have had so much going on of course it slipped my mind 🤦‍♀️ i hate when you have to sign up for a subscription just to get a product you want :/ i just rather order a la carte if you will. I don’t have a dermatologist, and I wanted a nice retinol (the real stuff) product bc its just, past time for it in my life. & I really like their product & service it made it easy for me to get what I needed but ugh! Its so annoying having to remember to delay it all the time bc i probably only need to go through one bottle every six months or so bc i just tend to use it sparingly 😕🤷‍♀️ i should use it more but, im not quite in the habit yet & I avoid it if I know Im going to be in the sun bc it would cause me irritation 😕🤦‍♀️ such a DOH Homer moment 🤦‍♀️ so thankful I randonly landed here & saw this comment rn or I’d be on the line for another bottle shipping THIS month & i don’t need it nor can I afford it! :P the things we do for beauty 😕 :P

When we contacted them trying to return it and not get charged for the full bottle.. they said they would send us return stuff, then never did. Did it again a couple weeks later and got the first shade again. I was so close to buying but so glad I didn't buy into the hype. I'm not really a foundation wearer and the appeal of the application looking like skin was the thing that made me want to buy. I'll stick with being able to get away with not wearing foundation or go with my tried and trued bare minerals. I do love elf so I'm going to try their new satin foundation. Or just use their halo glow filter alone when I want some coverage. But this product really is being pushed down everyone's throat and you can't believe everything you see.

But also it didn’t do anything it claimed and it was super cakey and they had me submit several photos (this was probably 6 years ago or so) and it definitely did not match my skin AT ALL. But why I bought it was that I saw an ad where they covered up a tattoo perfectly. I was like hey if they can cover up a tattoo, they can cover up my acne! I actually used their foundation for like 2 years and loved it, unfortunately I have oily skin/large pores so when it gets hot outside the makeup separates in my T-zone. But that’s because it’s a silicone based foundation (most are, I have to use water-based) and those don’t work for my skin in hot weather, it’s not really the makeup’s fault. I still use it as stage makeup because it’s so full coverage.

I bought my first IlMakiage foundation 2 years ago. The quiz matched me perfectly. The advertising may be over hyped for some, but I LOVE my foundation

I saw a bunch of Il Makiage ads but never bought in until I did a google search for what sort of foundation was good for dry flakey skin. There were so many people saying Il Makiage and I just trusted them to be real. For me I believe that for sure either bots or people paid to write that stuff. Absolute garbage in my opinion and I regret spending so much money on a bottle. The shade wasn't even a match but I didn't try to correct it because the formula was so trash for me and a color change wouldn't fix that. I'm glad people are spreading the word that this seems like a total scam.

I actually bought the foundation kit and was so disappointed as it was nothing even close. I get they used filters, but I didn't expect the foundation to erase my texture lol, I did hope though it would still be good but man, it was cakey, patchy, shade was off, just horrible. I then bought the spray foundation with primer, that is supposed to give you an airbrush look and it's just as bad.

I remember trying this. I tried to order like 3 times and never got the correct shade match.
