I am 70 and of course I have had many more years behind me, and that deathbed is getting closer and closer. I am learning so much from your podcasts and others like yours. I'm glad these books are being written and that your generation is able to share your life stories with each other. Keep up the good work.

Thank you for sharing, Dr. Chatterjee. In 2018, I faced a significant setback when I failed my PhD. It was a full scholarship with a stipend, which I earned at the age of 50. Despite my hard work, I didn't make it past the second year. Reflecting on this experience, I realize that I wasn't living a balanced life and neglected my personal wellness. Even now, I occasionally think about it, and it's difficult to encapsulate all my thoughts here.

I can relate. I'm 46 and am finishing my PhD (2 years behind schedule) so I took on this challenge rather later in life than my colleagues. My defence is scheduled in September. It's been a rollercoaster and I feel I'm not home dry yet. This PhD has taken a life of its own and has been a tremendous weight on my shoulders. It's a monstrous task that has taken a lot out of me psychologically and emotionally. I hope I can make it until defence and come out on top.

Stop lying to yourself and start being honest with yourself. Ageing is rotting and 64 is old. I’m 50 and I’m old. Age is not just a number. Age has nothing to do with numbers. We only use numbers for age as a reference point, as a guide to let us know what stage we are at in life. You may just die in your sleep tonight and you won’t even know it. It’s sad

Can work out every day now, eliminating the excuses of travel or time issues, as they are no longer factors.
Also, the first 12 minutes about Regret are gold. And even if on my deathbed I do have regrets, I will be compassionate and forgive myself for them, not pass away troubled by them. O People of the Scripture, do not commit excess in your religion or say about Allah except the truth. The Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary, was but a messenger of Allah and His word which He directed to Mary and a soul [created at a command] from Him. So believe in Allah and His messengers. And do not say, "Three"; desist - it is better for you. Indeed, Allah is but one God. Exalted is He above having a son. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. And sufficient is Allah as Disposer of affairs.

If we keep doing the same thing that means that we need to change our environment and people we have connection with. Indeed, this has been my life - wasted, being a people pleaser, fear of power, Intimidations, most of all I am full of regrets, always living what other people expected of me. Now I am old, consumed by loneliness, sadness, regrets. Too late for anything at my old age. 😊

That sounds so heartbreaking my dear. This very Now is the only experience that matters. Now just breathe and feel grateful for that wonderful mysterious life right now. The Now is for everyone the only moment. The past is not here nor is the future. Because the Now is the only moment it is a form of justice. Whether you will live or lived long . And try to find that understanding time and time again. Justice is in the Now. We are all there. We have in that sense no past or future. Dr Chatterjee is talking about how to build that framework of contentment. I am so grateful. But what I just wrote is especially for you. It is my own experience found under the pressure of death around the corner. Also happiness is possible under pressure of death. Because it can occur completely independent from your circumstances. For example when temporarily paralysed .. so leave your regrets yes abandon them. You are free. In the Now is justice. I’m sorry for my English is perhaps not sufficient enough. My thoughts are with you and I will pray for you.

Embracing our imperfections and learning from past choices leads to genuine growth. The emphasis on daily commitments, however small, underscores the potential for profound change. Also, the call to prioritize our well-being through intentional pauses is a transformative reminder. Thank you for inspiring a more compassionate approach to life!"

Yes, we are all not perfect, perfection is an idea to chase for but what makes me sad and I have big regret that some people make mistakes but others pay for those mistakes. This is really unfair when people who make wrong decisions or mistakes are trying to avoid responsibility and others suffer.

In terms of regret, deep down you always know you could have done better, is not that you could'nt but you chose not to do better, that is the ultimate truth and you simply cannot just simply reframe that. Its a fact

Way to go teaching about regret. grief work means touching in on sadness, crying and keep moving. great walk through with the asterisk that our society is controlled by big corporations who do not have our interests at heart. just saying it is not all a pile on to the fiction of an "individual". You know that people are dying of cancer and that dying is fueled by chemical companies that want us to see the world as we do our fresh food: organic and conventional instead of calling organic conventional and calling what we currently call produce conventional what it really is: Pesticide and herbicide cancer chemicals. That is the expression of a system putting profits over people. Lots of the self help in youtube land never talks about the context of our anxiety and despair in a society that is spitting out billionaires and homeless people at either end of the pipeline. I regret I have been lulled into thinking it is self help and identifying problems mostly as personal instead of a system that is ruthless toward healthcare housing and education. Reframe: from me to we. Individual U.S. to us.

I find this idea that regret equals perfectionism full of flaws and exceptions. It seems to be a mental trick you use to come to terms with disappointments. If that works for you, great, but it doesn't ring true to me, so it's not how I'd reframe regret. It's a very personal thing, obviously, but I find 'acceptance' a better way of dealing with regret.

Have Compassion for yourself that you did The Best You Could. I know that is true for me. What makes me suffer the most is that I didn't succeed in stopping the abuse of someone I loved. That pain has caused me more Suffering than any abuse I myself have endured. We are talking about the Evil of Narcissism. This Evil is pervasive and hidden in our society and causes an Overwhelming amount of human suffering, despair, and Destruction. We must eliminate Narcissism. I believe this is a Genetic Disorder, a Genetic Mutation, Not the result of "Nurture" but of "Nature" as in biology.

Great video. I hope doc RC comes to reflect on the socioeconomic conditions his younger audience is living through. We can change and improve personally to be clear , but the container we live in is harsh, environmentally precarious, and abusive. Individuals cannot behave their way out of regulatory capture, pollution , poverty wages, no health insurance, no mental health coverage, no housing and physical ailments from a hard life. I would love a video on how people can shape systems to meet basic needs. Because individuals have responsibilities but they reflect the conditions of society as a whole. A sick youth reflect a sick society and people with money and power need to actively shape their world as well, in irder to improve conditions around them for others.

Be on time when meeting other people, at work and in your social life. Being on time says you are reliable, responsible and value their time.
To be late once is unfortunate. To be late twice is clumsy. To be late three times says you don't care and have no intention of changing. It signals to others that you are a waste of their time as well as your own.

Regrets are natural, the result of being a human being , and there is little way of totally avoiding them. And , if you analyze your regrets and learn from them AND then push them aside. But obsessing over regrets is not healthy; it is highly destructive-and unfortunately, many people do worry and obsess over regrets.
