I have two of these and have owned four total over the years, they are excellent machines that I have used as both desktops and servers. They are currently in storage but I plan on using them once I setup a larger desk.

I can't say enough about this machine, I'm sad that I let mine sit in a corner for 5 years before I realized it was so sluggish because of the processors it was shipped with. After swapping up to the X5690's its fast enough to use over an M1 Mac. Side note, it runs Linux wonderfully.

@VernesMisadventures ...... Hey Verne. I think that's a 2009 (4,1) that has been flashed to 5,1 which is fine. They are the same machine. I can tell because the processors in the 5,1 are not clamped down. They just sit in there and they're held down by the heat sink. A good NVMe boot drive upgrade is well worth the money. It'll make that thing LIGHTNING FAST!
I have two of these machines and I upgraded both to the max. I have a 2009 (4,1 flashed to 5,1) with upgraded (2x) 3.33 Ghz Zeons, 96 GB Ram, 1 TB NVMe Sonoma boot drive, and (3x) 1 TB NVMe drives in a RAID. ...... The other one is a 2010 (5,1) with upgraded (2x) 3.46 Ghz Zeons, 96 GB Ram, 2 TB NVMe Sonoma boot drive, and (3x) 2 TB NVMe drives in a RAID.

Well. . . Since you have a lot more of these machines than I do, I'll take your word for it. Thanks for the info! I have another video where I install an NVMe drive. I didn't have the money to buy a fancy card like the MacFiver or something so I only have the one NVMe but, even without the super fast RAID, it sped my machine up significantly and editing with it is much better. I found 96 GB of Samsung RAM on eBay and upgraded the RAM as well. For no more than what I have in this thing, I'm very happy with it.

@@VernesMisadventures Simple. If the processors have an IHS on them, it's a 5,1. If the processors are delidded, it's an upgraded 4,1. That is the only difference. In theory, the 4,1 processor tray could be swapped out for a 5,1 and be just fine, however, I've never seen anybody do it.

Very cool! I'll bet those mods woke your rig up nicely. I'm editing a video about installing an NVMe hard drive right now. I am on a tight budget so I'll be improving mine a little at a time as I try to get the best bang for the buck. Thanks for taking the time to comment. Long Live the Chesse Graters!

How come it show a picture of the 7,1 ?

      @@iM-mf1ke ,
I had set the host as a 7,1 in OCLP. I thought it was necessary to spoof the OS into thinking it was being installed on a newer computer. I have corrected this and it works fine as a 5,1.
