    yeah... sonoma is good for supporting latest Web browser and Mac apps. but since I cannot upgrade my 4,1 to 5,1 boot rom I would stay in El Capitan LOL! I may install Windows for fun to entertain my friend. They will be shocked that I can install Windows to Mac pro.

      Why is the 4,1 to 5,1 FW upgrade not working. This should be fairly easy to do.

      Well, my above comment didn't age well. I got stuck with the same problem a few days later but fortunately managed to find a solution. Have a look over here: ua-cam.com/video/GjK4ysw9nr4/v-deo.html

    looks easy... but is tricky ;-) I've tried to install Monterey on the exact system you have, but end up in a macOS Installer loop... The mac Pro starts up, shows me a macOS Installer icon and automatically changes to the apple logo and the progress bar. After about 30% it stops, black screen and back we are at the installer icon. Any ideas?

      Should work fine with Monterey I ran that as well on the same system. Are you sure all hardware is ok? (I'm thinking memory). You could get more luck with another USB drive but it can be tricky to troubleshoot these kind of issues.

      @@jensdbe I'm pretty sure hardware and memory is ok - the mac runs fine with it's last Mojave installation. I'll try it again with another usb drive, let's see whether that will solve the problem... ;-)

      short feedback: it worked! I didn't realize that during the installation process there are in fact several restarts involved. And I finally got Monterey installed! It just took some time... Thanks again for you video, it was really a great help to understand how to work with opencore LP!

      @@jensdbe Yes, there can be complications with older computers; I have just the one Mac., it's a 2008 17 inch MBP., and I installed Linux Mint Mate on it and it's currently working well, perhaps you could try to install a Linux distro on that 4,1.

      Should work fine, yes. I did video which is more broad for Sonoma on unsupported hardware as well in case you would be interested: ua-cam.com/video/acpQuCIy3GA/v-deo.html

    And how do you deal with drivers? For example, I use a FireWire audio interface, and that operating system does not have drivers for this format, and the Internet card I ordered does not have drivers for that operating system... so how do you make everything work properly?

    • @jensdbe
      @jensdbe  Місяць тому

      @@Iglesiabiblicafundamental if it is supposed to work with macOS Sonoma, it should work just fine in this case as well. Either it can use the built-in drivers or kexts that come with Sonoma or the manufacturer will provide one. This is no different than it would be on a supported Mac running Sonoma. If there really are no drivers for macOS at all, you can also run Windows on this hardware.
