      Troy you blow my mind the way you play Bass guitar and emulate moog synts for us on UA-cam. I started on Drums in 1979. My sister Joy talked our mother to buy me a drum set Christmas 1978 and she did it because she could hear the drum set in her head by ear and figure out how to play beats. She is 6 years older than me. I was 11.
      So we started listening together at Led Zep Presence.
      I was hooked. Achilles last stand. Then she bought a autistic guitar that would not tune right. Shortly took that on until I had a chance with a friend who needed a bass player. I never touched a Bass at that point but being a drummer it was the same. So I found a drummer from Mount Kisco NY and we formed a band and called it 100 Proof Band.

    I had the tab for this song back in nineteen eighty something(after 84 of course) and I thought you nailed it when you said there were a lot of little variations for the lines he is playing. That lead part exemplifies that for sure. That's what the tabs amounted to also. It was a difficult song. You nailed it when playing it now though. Awesome cover.

    Although I am a Deep Purple tragic and "Sweet child in Time" reminds me so much of a yesteryear of a deeply relaxed smoke filled room with a beautiful friend and cheap wine, I do not recall that song. It is very interesting and it will occupy my bass practice time this week. So...loved it!
    The cat hair tumbleweed problem I can relate to. But I have reduced it by about 50% by having a wire and bristle cat grooming brush which collects most of the fluff in a few minutes. They mostly wait until it's their turn and are quite happy to lie on their back, feet in the air while they get brushed. Attempts to use the vacuum cleaner have been futile.

    Love that basses tone so much lol I've recently been obsessing over steely dan's Aja and The Royal Scam, and also Donald Fagen's The Nightfly. Which when finding out the myriad of amazing bass players they've had, I'm not surprised I love them so much. I'm glad to see you listen to it too! You should give I.G.Y. or the new frontier a go, would to see it done with that kind of tone.

    Nice Troy!
    This album was kind of a gem for '84. Music was in a serious transition at that time and it wasn't headed where I wanted music to go but time can't please everyone.
    Since you are spending a lot of time with the P, have you ever considered putting a Stellartone tone pot in it? It does really nice things for a P-bass. I put the 10 position tone pot in mine and it really opens up the tonal possibilities.

    Really really enjoy watching you play bass. I’ve watched this video alone a few times now. Fantastic stuff.
    I’m curious, I’ve noticed in more recent videos you also play just the bass without music, how come you haven’t done that for any of the rush videos? Also, where’s Animate??

    • @TJH3113
      @TJH3113  3 роки тому

      Thank you Jack. Actually, it took me a while (a long while) to get comfortable enough to play on my own and to speak more, as I've been doing. I don't know how, when, or why I started doing either, but people seem to approve of it. I'm not really comfortable portraying myself as an instructor of any sort. That being said, I may go back and do some lesson-type stuff on some of the Rush songs in the future. As far as "Animate" goes, there's no way I'd be able to come up with anything to replicate the flamenco technique he uses throughout the song, so I've taken a pass on that one. I've fudged a good number of song sections, as best I could, over the years, but that song is flamenco from start to finish.

    Troy! Nice cover! Where you using a pick or your index finger for the first bars of the song? I’ve played finger style since 1986 however I’ve played in Speed metal bands and used my right index finger tip for really fast parts of the songs I played on in the past. Just curious as I haven’t seen any other bass players do that technique. Anyways ….well done sir!
