      Totally agree, my personal favorite. Don't know why people stop at Nib even it is so good, you got some great bass lines in all the albums like warning, the wizard for the first album, war pigs, fairies wear boots or hand of doom. He play more notes and melody than other bassist i thought. Don't know why people underrated him so hard.

      Joey P that's why Terrance is my favourite. for me is the best not because of his amazing way of introducing lyrics but the technique he uses to speed up the tempo with Toni's riffs. amazing , simply amazing thanks to Black Sabbath we have metal.

  • @onecircle1
    @onecircle1 9 років тому +27

    Did you notice that most of the song took place in the middle of the neck, save the 4 open strings. That must be in the zone. What a monster to learn that one. There's a certain trade-off between bass making song structure and bass solo melodies. Thats hard to do. And they tend to merge into each other along the way. The good bass players always have the song structure nearby and can both give to the song and spotlight themselves too.

    Maybe I've gotten lazy and don't practice enough...but even if I did, I still seem to have trouble picking up exactly what Geezer was laying down here. This video provides vital information for me to LEARN THIS SONG RIGHT. Thank you Troy. Your "Bass Player-programmed" wonderful mind is hugely evident here...to pick out all of those pentatonic "box" fills and bring them up to the light for all to see and hear. Thank you bother!

      +luv basses Thanks for the nice comment but, as I said in the "about" section, I'm playing "in the spirit of Geezer" during some of the crazier sections. I was more concerned about coming up something I could play reliable live and wasn't striving as much for "note for note" in this cover.

    Damn, its already been almost 2 years since I first touched a bass. I came back to this song today just to see where I'm at from when I first looked at it last year. Being able to play along with you after only an hour of practice is wonderful, especially since I couldn't play it after days of practice back then. Awesome channel and skills! Awesome as always! Geezer is one of my bass heroes, not to mention his lyric-writing, and this is one of the best songs of one of the best bands in rock and roll history. There's a local Sabbath tribute band near where I live, and though I'm not really into the whole tribute thing, whenever they are playing they kill, and even after 40 years younger people still sing along to the lyrics, Sabbath's music is that timeless. It's good to see you enjoying yourself, too, you're always too cool, man!

      Helium Road I was totally into Sabbath for a time when I was starting out. I was pretty dark in my youth. I think the fact that I'd decided I was going to one take of this song, just like the gig, took some of the pressure off and that might explain my relaxed demeanor.

  • @edackerson3216
    @edackerson3216 3 роки тому +3

    You even did that Geezer Butler/Ace Frehley three-finger thingy. I like that you did a tribute verbatim version. This song has a format that advanced beginners could play through. I think naturally the song gets improvised over. I would love to hear your version of War Pigs.

    I have seen some of your videos, and you are so relaxed in most of them, but I love how this song goes inside you and you start to "dance" and sing, I'm a huge Black Sabbath fan and it's good to see how this music goes inside you, because it happens to me all the time... Great video!!!!!

      zzzhaggy In most of my videos I'm trying my best to get through the song with no errors which, even on simpler song, is difficult to do. On this song, and the last few I've posted, I recorded with an "as is" approach as if I were playing them live which actually relieves some of the tension.

    Thanks for that Mr T truly amazing bass playing, if I could play like you do I would be very satisfied. I have a Squire Jazz bass, could I get the sound you get? Once again thank you so much for being on UA-cam. I'm 70 years of age in a classic rock band and have been gigging off & on since I was 16. One day I hope to be nearly as good as you. Respect man.

    Cool story. It's cool when you can just walk in and everything goes well. I just auditioned for pretty big cover band in my little town, Knoxville. My goal was to go in and them say it is like you have been here all along. And sure enough they said that. I got the gig and now having to learn 60 more songs plus the 10 I already learned. Well this is one of them . And I'm going to play it just like you play it, Or at least try. You have covered well over half of the songs I need to learn thank you so much Troy. You have helped me so much over the last 2 years as I've started to play again. My goal was to work my way up and play with an established cover band and that has happened with this band they are well known and very good thanks again

    Fab cover as always Troy and a great story. I am truly shocked to think that someone with your skills and obvious talent isn't out playing live. Surely that's the essence of any musician, isn't it?
    Music needs you, so get out there and rock and "roll the bones." 😀

    • @TJH3113
      @TJH3113  9 років тому

      floouk Thanks. Yeah, I've always been a bit of an anomaly in that I've always loved to play, to learn songs, to write songs and to rehearse them with a band, but I have never gotten much satisfaction from playing out. Of course I did it because, that is the whole point, isn't it? But, when I was a young player I would play for hours and hours every day, learning songs and just riffing and would always derive a great sense of satisfaction from that. This UA-cam channel has really helped me reconnect to that again. The sad truth is that 99% of an average audience has no idea what they are listening to and there's no way I can (or will) compete with some hack "jumping around like a Kansas City faggot" and hitting all the wrong notes along the way.

    Wow! What a kool story! Thanx for sharing that! So you know i just found your channel, also just found your comment's on the song's you play. Geezer is one of my top 3 favorite player's. I met him (an Rudy Sarzo) and he was such a really nice guy. Ive met a number of music biggie's. He was easily one of the all around best. Your Black Sabbath cover's are really impressive and your dedication to Bass and music is exceptional. Im sorry , ive read in comments that you are badly hurt from the non response to Covid. Work wise, me too.. Thanks for your time and effort to produce these video's. So, (Long winded!) "War Pig's" is one of the reason's i had to attempt playing Bass.
    You have been instrumental in my re dedicating to play. Thank You. I am hoping you get what you want, an get all the good that you deserve.

    Chris.
