In Russia very fond of deep purple. Those who grew up under their great songs. This is an invaluable contribution to the culture of rock music. Thank you!
Mmmhh thats debatable. Although their first albums were def hard rock. Into the 80's their music was more and more heavy. Listen to "stormbringer" , "perfect strangers" , "under the gun" compare it to other bands of the time that were considered metal. Judas priest " you got another thing coming" i.e. and you'll realize what I mean. Def has metal repertoire. They just didi'nt stick to that style so to speak.

I grew up listening to Deep Purple. This song and Perfect Strangers are two of my favorite songs. Jon Lord was a master on the keyboard. My Dad says one of the best concerts he ever seen was at The Joe Louis Arena in Detroit. It was in 1985 during the Perfect Strangers Tour. The entire stage was smoked out and the lazer light show was amazing. Richie Blackmore is seen walking in and kicks a soccer ball out into the crowd. Everyone went wild. They opened with Highway Star. I wish I would have grown up back in those days. Everyone went to concerts and they were dirt cheap. They'd hitchhike sometime from Northern Michigan all the way to Detroit or Pontiac. They didn't give a shit back in those days. They'd do anything to make it to a concert!!
I was a sophomore in HS in 85. My mom went to this same concert….she wouldn’t let me and my twin sister go lol. She did get us a few concert tees tho and that was cool. Great album for sure!!
I saw this tour in Worcester, MA. Think it was late 84. I was only 15 and I had a ticket for my best friend Scott, but at the last minute he said he couldn't go, so I went by myself. My dad drove me to the arena and picked me up after. I went to probably 50 or 60 concerts in high school and my parents never gave me a hard time about it, although I'm sure they worried once I started driving myself to the shows. But nothing bad ever happened and I always had a great time while losing my hearing lol. I love you Mom and Dad and you too Scott, where ever you are!
I grew up in Toledo and I've seen about 150 concerts, most in Detroit venues. Fuck the late 70s through the 80 and including some 90s was the best time for me at concerts.
When this came out in the mid 80's, the current hair bands had to be put on notice that the hard and heavy rock gods were back!!! They had be shown once again who this legendary band was. I remember some of my buddies all remarking...holy cow what a way to come back!

+Seanriver316 It must have been awesome. I saw Gillan's (solo band) live a couple of times but never Purple. I had tickets for a Purple gig, but couldn't physically get to the show on the day!
Sonny lol. Nugent permanently deafened me. He told us, us being the audience, that he was going to deafen us and he did just that. Back in the 70’s stuff like this happened routinely and with no lawsuits.
Still remember when they came back and hit the US radios again in 84'. Not only could I not believe it be true but one of their best ever!!! Thank you! DP!!
I remember rocking to this in 1987 ( even though it was 3 years old then )and thinking it was ultra modern and any match to what ever Bon Jovi or the the new white snake brought out.
This was the third phase of Purple. The first with Rod Evans on vocals. Then Ian Gillan really took them to the next level. I Worshiped this band as a teenager and by the time I was old enough to attend concerts he had already left the band. So I saw Rainbow live with both Dio and Bonnett. But man when Ian Gillan returned it was a dream come true to see finally see this great band perform the classics and this new material was awesome. They actually had a full cocktail bar set up in the concert stadium. You could party down do shots or whatever and watch these guys live. When I first went to shows you had to sneak a bottle in. No alcohol served oh well I was too young too drink anyway so I might as well enjoy the concert with all of the weed being passed around half the audience was stoned out of their minds for these shows including myself. and it's funny Pot is legal now and I have no interest in toking weed. The Good Ol Days.

This album brought Deep Purple millions of new fans. A whole new generation. I saw this tour in Detroit. Excellent show. One of the best live acts ive ever seen.
ritchie blackmore I one of the best guitar players in rock....deep purple, rainbow, that's a hell of a legacy ..and the singers who made it as a result of being on rainbow..ronnie dio, graham bonnet, joe lynn turner...amazing singers who basically owe their careers to him
What an awesome walk back in time. Sadly, Deep Purple will always be associated with and remembered by Smoke On The Water by the masses, but they were so much more than that. And had so many more and better songs. Perfect Strangers will always be my favorite, it is so good and heavy, love those riffs!
One of the best bands ever..child in time and when a blind man cries for me..was 11 when this album came out and the song perfect strangers hit me like no other song had
Underrated? Nah. But definitely looked past. Anyone with a brain stem along with rock n roll historians put them in the same conversation as Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin.
Is there a rock guitarist with more character than Ritchie Blackmore? The way his solos mix energy, attack, dynamics, note selection and melody is so cool and interesting.
Happy 78th Birthday Richard Hugh Blackmore 14 April 1945. Dropped out of school age 15. First session recording age 16. New dad age 67. R&R Hall of Fame age 71. Pretty unique life so far. But that's our Ritchie..
Глядя на вступление композиции, хочется текст сделать на тему того, как олигархи поработили рабочих. Ведь и добавки в пищу добавляют действительно. И одежду все менее качественную. А мне именно во вступлении бас и орган хочется только и слушать
This Deep Purple album was the Album of the year. I truly believe Ian Gillen is one of the most underrated rock in roll singers ever . He has song on so many great albums and is in my top 5 singers for Rock and roll . His one album with Black Sabbath is one of the most underrated Sabbath albums too. He has had the opportunity to work with some of the best Rock musicians in the world . Perfect Strangers album is a top 10 album for me because every song on the album is great and I'm glad Deep Purple got back together to make this album happen.
Friday, 26th October, 1984, 10pm (UK time): The moment of truth. Tommy Vance (RiP), Britain's best rock DJ since '78, welcomed us to The Friday Rock Show Deep Purple Special. This is how he started it, with this track. Deep Purple Mk.2, '84... The Jon Lord intro was immediately arresting, akin to a dramatic TV-film theme (and I honestly thought the "cello" part was real, with Blackmore's having mastered the instrument!). Glover's bass bubbles, and Paice smashes in with cymbals (becoming a rare sound then) and ambient drums. Then THAT riff. Like Woman from Tokyo, Burn, Stormbringer, and Stranded, another Blackmore riff with all the features you'd want but not be able to predict, opening a new album. Suddenly, the shock of hearing Ian Gillan's vocals on top of this perfect groove... This really is Purple, not from your older sibling's record collection, but from the present time! As usual, slightly humorous and quirky lyrics to offset the emotionally intense backing. The chorus over the riff. All over the parts of Europe that caught Radio 1, there were others undergoing the same intense experience, and the feeling of relief. The critics weren't going to rave over this, but by God we were. Guitar solo, and in the '80s Rainbow vein, but with a certain Purple flourish - Schenker, Moore and Van Halen, not to mention Sykes, would have to be addressed now. I checked the 120-min. tape I'd got recording this historic moment - all well. In fact, 5 of the 8 tracks featured on the original Perfect Strangers vinyl lp were premiered that night. The interviews were enlightening. What a well-spoken group of guys Tommy was talking to. A few days later, I played the tape in my friend's car. She was into Boston, Toto and Foreigner (just weeks later, she'd play Tooth & Nail to me and get me instantly into that band). I wanted to see what she thought of Knocking at Your Back Door. Her reaction was immediate. "God, this is brilliant, amazing!" she raved. The song complemented the wonderful countryside we were passing through, we were young (21 and 23), and all seemed right with the world. Cheers, Purple.🙂
no they weren't. they were right where they belonged, and that's what made them great. heaven forbid they would have been a 2000s band, today's music is total shit. they are great BECAUSE of the era in which they existed.
I was in highschool, senior year, these songs take me back to the best times ever! Cold war, pish, growing up under the threat of world annihilation with a joint in one hand, a beer in the other, maybe a hit of acid on my tongue... Deep Purple playing, bring it on!!!
I went camping in the Rockies and was jamming out to this song, was pretty high and decided to burn up my clothes in protest against something I can’t even remember. Anyway, made it off the mountain the next day in just my hiking boots. I will never take acid and listen to Deep Purple again.
+Bob Shy I watched a lot of MTV after getting home from the club and continuing the party. The Chicks liked a place that had a big TV and stereo hooked up to blast MTV so that is what we all had back in those golden days. Plus it was cheaper to drink and easier to get high at the parties.
@Vince Feeney not at all. In fact, thousands believe the same. You must be young. Deep Purple was never a popular radio band nor talked about big band like Maiden, Black Sabbath etc. You do know what underrated means, yes?
@Vince Feeney what insult. I'm 51 and DP is and has always been underrated. You are literally the 1st person to argue this. They received little airplay and still do on classic radio. Always their Top hits. No Hall of Fame. No major stuff at all. DP is an album and live band only. And a band that most folks dont even mention. In over 30 years you're the first to say different. That's your belief.
OMG this is one of the greatest songs in the world the lyrics the music it doesn't get much better than this you can't have a party without playing this song God bless Deep Purple😮🎉
This song is from 1984, after they got back together and tried their hand at basically becoming an 80s arena metal band. They hit the nail right on the head!
i loved this song as a kid and would always have my dad play it in the car for me.. it’s funny now being all grown up and knowing what it’s about and i have to wonder what my dad was thinking 😂

@@kkarx You mean like all his solos? Some of the greatest music has come from improvisation. When you start putting structure in rock music you get Def Leppard.
@@big106razor Just this one. He can write awesome solos but this one sounds like he did not really care, came annoyed into the studio, bitterly jammed and left after the first take. The solo does not make much sense in the context of the song.

Sweet Lucy was a dancer
But none of us would chance her
Because she was a samurai
She made electric shadows
Beyond our fingertips
And none of us could reach that high
She came on like a teaser
I had to touch and please her
Enjoy a little paradise
The lock was in my pocket
When Lucy met the rocket
She never knew the reason why
I can't deny it
With that smile on her face
Oh, it's not the kill
It's the thrill of the chase
Feel it coming
It's knocking at the door
You know it's no good running
It's not against the law
The point of no return
And now you know the score
And now you're learning
What's knockin' at your back door
Sweet Nancy was so fancy
To get into her pants we
Had to be the aristocracy
The members that she toyed with
At her city club were something in diplomacy
So we put her on the hit list
Of a common cunning linguist
A master of many tongues
And now she eases gently
From her Austin to her Bentley
Suddenly she feels so young
I can't deny it
With that smile on her face
Oh, it's not the kill
It's the thrill of the chase
Feel it coming
It's knocking at the door
You know it's no good running
No, it's not against the law
The point of no return
Now how you know the score
And now you're learning, aha
What's knockin' at your back door
Sweet Lucy was a dancer
But none of us would chance her
Because she was a samurai
She made electric shadows
Beyond our fingertips
And one of us could reach that high
I can't deny it

the guitar in this song is one of the closest things to perfection I've ever witnessed
Shonnna. Poston
Some of
RICHIE BLACKMORES finest!!
Agreed!
The riff in this song is amazing
We put her on the hitlist of of a common cunniliguist......outstanding
In a song about butt stuff 😂

The way Ritchie moves man. I fkng love his showmanship
One Of My Alltime Favourite Songs ❤
Best concert I ever saw! 1984 at the Richfield Coliseum. I was in the second row, center stage. My ears rang for two days. It was awesome!
+Seanriver316 It must have been awesome. I saw Gillan's (solo band) live a couple of times but never Purple. I had tickets for a Purple gig, but couldn't physically get to the show on the day!
LOL Ears rang did they. Went to see Ted and by the time I left I thought I would never hear again!
Sonny lol. Nugent permanently deafened me. He told us, us being the audience, that he was going to deafen us and he did just that. Back in the 70’s stuff like this happened routinely and with no lawsuits.
Jon Lord's ominous intro.....Purple were back!
Deep Purple ❤❤❤
I really feel sorry for the people who doesn't know Purple! The lyrics of each song are so smart!!!!! Gillan really knows how to tell stories!!!!
The lyrics are disgusting on this song
Disgusting? LOL! Whatever
3rd phase was with Coverdale and Hughes
Agree. They all did so much great art, just to have interviewers go back to Smoke on the Water. Flight of the Rat is much, much better!
Coverdale and Hughes, then Coverdale Hughes and Bolin and then this one I think...
ritchie blackmoore just a killing machine

Blackmore is a guitar Beast.
He’s got everything
Yeah man .
This album brought Deep Purple millions of new fans. A whole new generation. I saw this tour in Detroit. Excellent show. One of the best live acts ive ever seen.
Ottimo.complimenti
ritchie blackmore I one of the best guitar players in rock....deep purple, rainbow, that's a hell of a legacy ..and the singers who made it as a result of being on rainbow..ronnie dio, graham bonnet, joe lynn turner...amazing singers who basically owe their careers to him
Everytime I hear that intro, I get goosebumps.
One of the most killer riffs!
What an awesome walk back in time. Sadly, Deep Purple will always be associated with and remembered by Smoke On The Water by the masses, but they were so much more than that. And had so many more and better songs. Perfect Strangers will always be my favorite, it is so good and heavy, love those riffs!
Sue'82 Metal Maniac I grew up with this song knew it before smoke on the water.
I kinda like Burn and Storm Bringer a touch better
One of the best bands ever..child in time and when a blind man cries for me..was 11 when this album came out and the song perfect strangers hit me like no other song had
@@nhannyheil6934
Have you heard Bloodsucker?!
True, but Smoke can also be the gateway drug to the balance of the catalog.
most under rated band in history
they bring mozart and all classic music to heavy metal
danu pata pffffff
Check out the album "Book of Talisn" if you can get it, fantastic
Underrated? Nah. But definitely looked past.
Anyone with a brain stem along with rock n roll historians put them in the same conversation as Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin.
@@avadakedavra69 not any of us. DP not even in the same league as LZ or BS
@@tyronejefforeillyramirez7961 LOL ok if you insist.
Is there a rock guitarist with more character than Ritchie Blackmore? The way his solos mix energy, attack, dynamics, note selection and melody is so cool and interesting.
Great album! Great song! Deep Purple is an amazing band! One of the greatest of all times!
Супер ! На все времена ! Шедевральная группа !
With all the hair metal springing up, Purple gave us this non hair band masterpiece! Year I graduated...wore out a cassette of this record!
Richie Blackmore's melodies remind me of Tony Iommi's melodies. Which is the main reason I love this band.
Happy 78th Birthday Richard Hugh Blackmore 14 April 1945. Dropped out of school age 15. First session recording age 16. New dad age 67. R&R Hall of Fame age 71. Pretty unique life so far. But that's our Ritchie..
My favorite Deep Purple album! Not a single weak song there. And, it has two of my favorites - title song and Gypsy's Kiss!!!
よく聴いてた!イントロでもうロックオンされた曲🤩
This entire album is tremendous!
Simply the best song of deep purple!
Definitely one of their best!
Глядя на вступление композиции, хочется текст сделать на тему того, как олигархи поработили рабочих. Ведь и добавки в пищу добавляют действительно. И одежду все менее качественную.
А мне именно во вступлении бас и орган хочется только и слушать
Far from it. Burn, Machine Head, and Come Taste the Band are all better albums than Perfect Strangers.
Yep it's my #1 Purple song...I know many will disagree. I just love their energy on this amazing comeback album from the classic lineup.
It's a great song, not my favourite, that's Child in Time, but this is the song I go around singing haha
"It's not the kill, it's the thrill of the chase" Awesome lyrics! Awesome song!
CRAZY solo by Ritchie!LOVE IT!!!
Blackmore played shitty solos imo, his riffs were his thing. I consider that to be as obvious as his riffs
+Eric Jenkins obviously you dont have an ability to understand solos Blackmore didnt use standard "riffs"
+duster71 dude Elton John has good riffs
+Eric Jenkins What an ignorant comment, listen ti Stargazer's solo and fuck off
This Deep Purple album was the Album of the year.
This band was way ahead of their time. Great song!!
no they weren't. they were right where they belonged, and that's what made them great. heaven forbid they would have been a 2000s band, today's music is total shit.
they are great BECAUSE of the era in which they existed.
One of the best masterpieces of world rock ! I am glad that my life was accompanied by such beautiful songs.
Wish the world could all just come together
And rock!!!!
Oh man, such a sick intro! Total goosebumps once that bassline starts and then again once the drums kick off.
Amazing band! WE NEED THEM IN THE HALL OF FAME!
+Connie Silva there going in the hall of fame Ritchie Blackmore got banned on going to the cermony
Martin Gilman ...Really!!!??? Awesome, why did Ritchie get banned?? Thanks Martin.
i really dont know why i guess he was such a prick lol im not a big fan of him i am happy there getting in the hall of fame
Oh wow Martin....yes, so am I...about time. Thanks for the info.
cuasipornio Yes! That too...
My favorite Deep Purple song, the lyrics are very clever.
No doubt that hooked me probably before you were born. Not many folks listen that closely!
Deep Purple is just an awesome band. Such great musicians. All of their songs are awesome. 🎶
saw these guys in 1971 at Norfolk scope , Machine head tour--GREAT concert will never forget
I saw quite a few concerts there!

Making friends i see, whats with you people?
I was in highschool, senior year, these songs take me back to the best times ever! Cold war, pish, growing up under the threat of world annihilation with a joint in one hand, a beer in the other, maybe a hit of acid on my tongue... Deep Purple playing, bring it on!!!
Hell yeah! Miss the good old days.
@@nickiborsella just reached out to you on fb messenger.
Every time I play this awesome song from Deep Purple I am always amazed how awesome musicians they are 🎶
The video has a Mad Max vibe to it
I went camping in the Rockies and was jamming out to this song, was pretty high and decided to burn up my clothes in protest against something I can’t even remember. Anyway, made it off the mountain the next day in just my hiking boots. I will never take acid and listen to Deep Purple again.
What a story 😂
I used to watch MTV back in the day and was happy to see videos that I liked. This was one of them.
+Bob Shy I watched a lot of MTV after getting home from the club and continuing the party. The Chicks liked a place that had a big TV and stereo hooked up to blast MTV so that is what we all had back in those golden days. Plus it was cheaper to drink and easier to get high at the parties.
You remember when MTV ( MUSIC TELEVISION ) ACTUALLY played MUSIC VIDEOS ????? Me too ! Now it's all just CRAP !
One of the MOST UNDERRATED bands in rock history. Such an amazing sound.
Perfect song, perfect album, perfect band ❤
You do know what this song is about right?
великолепный альбом мастеров...БРАВО...
OMG this is one of the greatest songs in the world the lyrics the music it doesn't get much better than this you can't have a party without playing this song God bless Deep Purple😮🎉
The 70's was a great time to live plus listening to Deep Purple.
Rock On ✌
This song is from 1984, after they got back together and tried their hand at basically becoming an 80s arena metal band. They hit the nail right on the head!
i loved this song as a kid and would always have my dad play it in the car for me.. it’s funny now being all grown up and knowing what it’s about and i have to wonder what my dad was thinking 😂
98% of rock, metal etc is about sex, drugs, rock n roll ,depression etc
Still a great song!
Wow, yoyr D. was thinking - a good music taste for kids! 🤦♀️😂
well i was about 14 and thinking the same thing
You believe this song has meaning?
I have to agree that this song is like a drug. The more you like it, the more you like it. An awesome song 🎵
Denver here, front row. Deep Purple with Judas Priest. The guy next to us. Got the drum sticks of both drummers. We caught guitar picks. DP jp

SONGS ABOUT SODOMY!!! PERFECT STRANGERS IS JUST AS GOOD!! SEEN THEM IN 82!!
One of the best guitar solos ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It is atrocious. It has no structure and sounds completely improvised.
@@kkarx how 'bout you bless us with something better that you've done?
@@zzz7zzz9 Ok, when you ask for it.... you can always check my original solos in my channel. They are limited to one string as it is a fun excercise but hey they make much more sense than this mess.
